It is a solid game, and for new players, there is always going to be a ton of content to explore. I do think it has hit the awkward stage where there honestly they should have just gone to a sequel. The problem with any game if you just keep adding stuff over years is the tech runs into problems and needs updates. Updates are very technical and time-consuming, and people just have very little patience for waiting 4 months on tech update X. I do think they are trying to get to an end, you can see that as they seem to have a clear direction on the main story now. That said I think it will be another year or 2 until they actually get there.

I would have been way more content waiting this amount of time for a sequel (or even separate game entirely) than a tech update. We shall see. STS is one of those things that I wish I could play for the first time again, for sure. You're obviously right that they needed the tech update but it definitely put them in an awkward spot, or lack there of since people are still throwing money at the game. At least it wont be sloppily rushed due to lack of funds, I guess is a positive side.

WAR war never changes the same old augments endlessly repeated by new people, in the same thread with thousands of pages for 7 YEARS, defended by the same old people with the same old cope, the game is about 60% done we have like 9 updates left the most optimistic timeline is like 3 years and that with a ungodly amount of cope(real timeline is like 5 years)

The audience get the game for free, and pay him as a gesture of goodwill. He earns enough money that he's financially secure, and I doubt his home expenses have increased to the point he needs constant patreon growth to sustain his lifestyle. His finances are solid, no-one bothers him, he's his own boss after a career of wageslaving, he gets to spend plenty of time with his family and he can work from home on this goofy little side project that unexpectedly became a self-sustaining diversion. He's got it made, really, and -- on a person-to-person level -- I'm very happy for DC. I like him and it gladdens me to see people I like do well for themselves.
Man this summarizes exactly what I feel when I join the streams of DC from time to time.
I mean, c'mon, he's earning a lot of money doing what he loves and he's his own boss. Of course we envy him, and I'm glad that he's doing fine
The only and MAIN but of all this, is that someday (i don't know when, nor i'm not sure if THEY know when neither) the patreons are gonna get tired. We can lie to all of us saying that DC is going to still working in this project even when his incomes drops to 0, but we all know that's not true. There's a whole team working behind, and they are need to be paid for the work they're doing (or not doing maybe...?)
I love this game, and i really like DC, but we're getting closer to the non-return point where the patreons get so fucking TIRED of paying for nothing, that Summertime Saga is on risk of being developed even SLOWER

But of course, i'm not a guru and maybe nothing of this happen in a closer future
Meanwhile, i like seeing that DC is doing well and taking care of his family. He's actually a really good man

Patreon $ income is the lowest it has been since March 2020, so one might argue that patreons are already tired at this point.

I havent been keeping up with the patreon numbers but, even if the patreons are tired i doubt DC has anything to worry about since his last goal that was 30k and was made as a joke too.
Currently his patreon is doing double that.

I completely agree. People should read this before accusing DC of scamming people.

But I do understand why people get wrong impressions or feel as if something doesn't add up. DC went through the effort to rebrand as Kompas Productions and incentivizes people to donate to his Patreon. It definitely gives off a professional impression but DC is anything but. I'm not saying he's obligated to do anything because of that, but some professionalism would go a long way.

Don't say "game is supported by donations please gib moneys" when you're borderline negligent when it comes to transparency, especially when the state of development is in such a situation as now. That's just my opinion though.
He is right, and that is the perfect definition of "milking" for the motivations he explained. Very easy and it damn works.
At the same time, the power is in patrons' hands.
If people want to accelerate the process of development, they must pause their subscriptions. That's all. It's not a scam or a fraud, it is a perfect consequence of this system.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the update will be released on April 1 as an April Fool's joke.

I think you also have to consider how many people are addicted to things like gambling, gacha, bad microtransactions, porn sites and how many donate to millionaire hot tub streamers hoping for attention. Some of them do it until they're broke, others are rich enough that they can keep doing it, neither are the least bit self-aware or care. So many people also fall for scams like these courses that "teach" you how to be a billionaire. Unlike summertime saga these are super obvious traps/waste of money yet a HUGE amount of people fall for them. You overestimate people.

A good example: another NSFW game creator (Redamz) essentially made nothing for 2 years while collecting something like 20,000$/month until patreon knocked on his door. He then shut everything down and ran away with the money, no apologies, nothing. To this day you will find supporters of his that think he's still working on the project and who want to give him money.

DC isn't Redamz but SS supporters seem to me like the same type of supporters.

Let's just hope the update comes out in the next 2 years before Patreon comes knockin'

The difference is, that DC is usually streaming his work 7 to 8 hours a week, with each stream ending up being watched somewhere between 3000 and 6000 times. So we are talking about 50.000+ views each month. It's indeed hard to judge how many of his patrons are actually giving money because of that - unlike most other streamers, he doesn't really offer stream goodies for money or such.

For those who are regulars, that's like 30+ hours of entertainment each month. It's hard to argue that nobody is getting anything in this case.
