Well was old and looks bad on pc... on phone was fine in low re screen. Can someone tell me why the dev changed the engine? Wasn't it working fine? And what's the backlash about? I'm out of loop.

A start from scratch was really necessary. The whole code base was botched from the beginning. It seems DarkCookie is a fan of Technobrake's idea to start their games from scratch to new engines for "improved art and gameplay" while they keep on milking their patreons. Also on a side note is it just me or are all gaming going haywire this 2024 it seems most devs and companies are in a competition to who could fall the lowest lmao
Dev just stalled and made an "update" to avoid the "Game Abandoned" tag to continue scamming the Patrons. It's the same reasoning as people who buy e-girls' bathwater...Can someone tell me why the dev changed the engine? Wasn't it working fine? And what's the backlash about? I'm out of loop.
It's a pretty well known fact that many people do not keep up with their subscriptions, a lot of people probably have more streaming services than they are aware of, because of promotional deals that lapsed and now they are paying for Disney+ or commercial free Hulu, or they caved and got Youtube premium, because they got tired of ads. These are the ones that DC banks off of. To be fair, that is a lot of creators, not just him. Patreon facilitates creators fucking over their patrons, so long as they get their cut. There is no one there to ensure creators deliver periodic updates in a timely fashion. Patreon gets paid and if people are willing to throw money at a creator for nothing in return, it's on them.the fact people keep paying him is absurd, the character models aint even THAT good.
What you see as fair, I see as review bombing. If you don't like the game, make an effort to review it according to the standards of the forum. So the mods removed negative reviews after the dev removed 85% of the content after 2 years? Why? Why are we all interested in being fair and impartial to a man thats spent almost a decade not finishing a point and click gooner game?
So is Discord happy with this update and roadmap or not? I still don't quite get it. Why did DC turn off comments on Patreon? Are the comments back to normal now? From what i skimmed through "All the previous content is simply under review, it'll be added back quickly
He is a hard worker.(no)The rework could have been done in 2 or 3 months.
Meanwhile DC is cashing in millions, getting the yearly salary of a senior dev every fucking month!
I think Saria's shitstorm was bigger for less.Still, this is the craziest shit i've ever seen for a porn game
It never was a brilliant game.Screw this. Such a shame too was a brilliant game.
zero surprises, the mods go hand in hand with DC in a flowery field with rainbows (not to say something more offensive and they delete it crying)So the mods removed negative reviews after the dev removed 85% of the content after 2 years? Why? Why are we all interested in being fair and impartial to a man thats spent almost a decade not finishing a point and click gooner game?
I don't think that it's a big project for me a big project for example would be the game Being a Dik because you have choices that leads to different outcomes you have minigames like SummertimeSaga but in my opinion more fun you have character stats you have love intrest stats your stats will determine the flow of the story some characters will give you different dialogues depending on your actions and other stuffThanks for the reply.
As a IT girl that coded a bit in Powershell and very little in Python, I can still think of a few reason someone would remake their whole code.
In a project that big, you have a looooot of dependancy (things that call for other things) or "tag" (name depending on the langugage) to modify a lot of entries at the same time with just a modification of that tag definition.
As a simple example for those no familiar with it (not you it seems since you said you coded a bit) : whats allow the dev and the modders to quickly change how a "mom" gets turn into a "landlady" is because everytime they are called in a dialog, it's not "mom" or "landlady" but something like "$mom" or "$momname" if we are talking about the name you choose when prompted at the beginning. You are changing the "tag" definition by your own input.
That being said, this idea can go waaayy deeper than that and when you build a code with "beginner" knowledge, it's bond to happen that years later, you have way more skills to do thing cleaner, with less bugs, clutter. A lot of time, the way you did things with partial knowledge of what you were doing can cause an impossibility to do something new, thousands of lines down in your code, and you have to rethink a whole function.
I suppose the devs hit that point with new content they wanted to add and couldn't with the way they built the game until then.
They could also just want to do a better experience overhaul with their new knowledge.
Or, they were close to finishing their project or out of new ideas to add and had to keep the money coming to live...
