Prolly just fuckin around. DC's got guaranteed paychecks. No boss breathing down his neck. No requirements. No deadlines. Some people need to be pushed or they become lazy & complacent.

Yup he's made a ton of money, as much as some larger studios would make. At a point it was revealed he was making an excess of 100k/month, to put into perspective, that's 1.2 million per year and he's been at it since 2016.

Little of what you have said is the truth. Yup, he's been at it since before 2016, earning money on Patreon since 2016.

DC and his team have made a fuckton of bank - but you can simply use the truth rather than falsehoods and hyperbole. The amount of money is a drop in the buck what larger studios make. That's a ridiculous claim. He and the team have never brought in more than $100,000 per month - data easily shown below:

Their best month (up until recently?) was just above $80,000 for a month ... Quite ample. Didn't last long - maybe a year in the high $70s?

If their subscriber average $$ remained about the same as the year or so prior to their earnings no longer being public, you're still looking at around $70k to $85k per month for the last couple of months.

Again, big money. Huge money. You don't need to pump it up - just tell the truth.
No boss breathing down his neck. No requirements. No deadlines.
God, don't we all wish we could do what we love for a living, make fuckton bank, and not have a boss breathing down our necks? Guy figured it out, didn't he? Even though he sucks at project management - he hit paydirt with what he loves doing at just the right time, didn't he?

I wish the same for all of us, instead of being cynical about it.

I appreciate your tireless efforts keeping this thread somewhat sane Count Morado, as I have very little tolerance for people endlessly complaining myself.

Do I wish the tech update be done faster?
Sure.

Could the tech update be done faster?
I'm not so sure.

The tech update has been a monumental task for the team, and it was completely necessary.

The original game was barely held together by a patchwork of spaghetti code from different coders and experience.

Hell, I started working on my mod for the 0.20.16 version, and just clicking through the dialogue would slow/lag if I wasn't extremely careful with my programming. Just poorly optimized, with very little overhead.

The tech update however, is just on another level.
Most of the released work till now is under the hood stuff, that sadly goes unappreciated.
It's definitely not just swapping to 16x9 backgrounds with the devs mostly sitting on their asses.

I love this game.
I want it to succeed.
I want the devs to succeed.

It will take some time, but new content will come.

In the mean time I will play other games, watch a movie/show, spend time with friends and family, and create content for my mod/this game.

I just won't waste my time complaining.

Okay, this I gotta know. What's a 'larger studio' that actually gets by with 1.2 million a year?

A small indie where someone is actually in charge and makes people work on shit. All that to say, for what he's making DC shouldve hired some helping hands to get the project moving a little faster. I know the grift is that he keeps making money as long as its never done, but he couldve been in a situation where all these whales are more than happy to keep funding his next projects. Could've made a lot of games like this, and some of them couldve been even better.

I hope that if we can all do what we want that we can actually fucking deliver on what we do instead of whatever the fuck this has been. Maybe he does need a boss.

when will this game finally be finished?
It's been 9 years since the first post. And I have the impression that the authors are taking money from naive people and will never finish it, but will endlessly improve, improve and improve it.

In a couple of years if we want the same level of content. The game didn't have more than 10% of content right now.

Also, DC said he never intended to finish it, we want to continually add things.

Looking at Archmage Rises, I would say just having 'someone in charge to make people work' doesn't mean they're gonna be an effective developer lol. And in case of Summertime Saga, I honestly don't know if getting more people involved would make things actually go faster. I'd say he has more than enough posers (funnily enough in this new update they actually have a pretty funny scene posing wise because MC is hopping around while Debbie was facing away from him), more programmers for a Ren'py game is just retarded, so that leaves shit like get more writers?

That comes with its own trappings because not all writers are frankly equal and looking at other games you it generally ends up being a bit of a clusterfuck where one of the writers has to insert his specific fetish (which more often than not seems to be sharing/ntr lol).

And then there's the art, and I think with DC being the main artist you can kiss the notion of more artists goodbye. Maybe AI? I would have to point to the Taffy Tales thread how suddenly using AI can quickly turn people away.
