The incest community has always been very vocal. Given that the game did well even after DC removed the incest - even though quite a few people over here said nobody would play it anymore - I kinda doubt that the vast majority of players really cares.

As to why people like it? Well, it's just a fetish among many...

I was a patron when the switch happened and I was very disappointed, but I understood the reasoning and couldn't fault them. It was assured, at that time, that you'd essentially continue to see poor writing with regard to the home stories and I've been happy it's continued to be the case. Nothing adds up in the story unless it involves incest. I've always appreciated the ability to read between the lines and that modders can easily make the switch back. I used to sloppily hack into the game and re-write much of the dialogue with the .20 version and prior.

I knew with the Roxxy update that the fan base had made a major shift. The Roxxy update was a home run. To be fair, the guys over there could do a complete re-write, change the art, and make the land lady thing work and it not miss a beat. I think they might lose some money, but I don't think it would be enough to make a real difference. It's probably the one thing that could get me to let the game go completely. However, I agree with the Count, I don't believe this is going to happen. I think people are making a mountain out of an ant hill.

Debbie's story works quite well in my opinion as it is now, and I didn't get the impression that anything was being drastically changed in that stream.

She's the lonely single mother who lives with her daughter. She meets the MC's father Frank, and they begin a relationship and move in together as a blended family. Fast forward a decade to some shenanigans, and Frank is killed, leaving his son living with Debbie and her daughter, Jenny. Franks death is a catalyst for them coming together through a series of events that help to influence their decisions. During that time, her long time friend from college (Diane), who's a horn dog, also encourages Debbie to pursue the MC, because she's sexually frustrated and alone, reminding her that the MC is of age. One thing leads to another through slow and gradual interactions, that lead into a sexual relationship of not only her and the MC, but a rekindling of Debbie's and Diane's intimate college days.

Can you, or someone else please explain why the whole incest thing is so appealing and apparently required for people to enjoy the game? I genuinely don't understand it.

I'm going to try to answer this question and hope there was no malice or sarcasm wrapped up in your intent.

As a kid I can remember watching the movie Biloxi Blues and Matthew Broderick's character visited a prostitute. He was unsure of the encounter and she tried to reassure him and get him into bed. She said something along the lines of "Come to mama", which he disliked. I remember kinda liking that and wondering if that was wrong of me. The same thing happened in the movie Moulin Rouge where Satine tells Christian "Oh, yes yes yes, let mommy help".

I've always been attracted to very feminine nurturing mature women my whole life. I chased down stories with this theme and they were always attached to incest. It wasn't until years later that I figured out that I have a mommy kink and not necesserily an incest fetish. In some respect the two go hand-in-hand, but it doesn't have to. I don't mind and maybe even somewhat like the "wrongness" of the incest fetish, but it's not the defining thing for me. Mommy kink is a form of soft female domination. I like wide hips, full thighs, round back side, large breasts... things that define the extreme physical feminine. I also like nurturing, being fussed over, intimacy, closeness, kissing, breast play, going down on a woman, and grinding. I will play and enjoy all parts of StS, but the ending I choose (if there ever is one) will be the one that ends with Debbie. I feel like Debbie was written specifically for me.

In the game Knight of Love, the creator decided to go the mommy kink route and I really like the idea. I love the art of Karen (the mommy character), but I don't love the way the writing is delivered. There is real potential there for my tastes, however. I've often wondered if Summertime Saga could be re-written in a similar fashion, but I just can't see it. It would take an overhaul to re-write the story and create new art for 5 characters so, in the end, I think keeping "incest" is what's best for Summertime Saga.

It's explicit in the game that Frank and Debbie are just friends, because step incest is also considered a no no by Patreon standards. Where did Frank sleep for all those years? Why is there only one car? Why do they rely solely on Frank's income when Debbie and Frank are just friends? Why does Debbie take the loss of Frank at another level? Same with Jenny? Why did Frank and Debbie share a bank account? Why do Debbie and Diane look exactly alike? Why do Erik and Tammy look like family? The story really only makes sense if this is a family. I'm not saying it couldn't work otherwise or couldn't be re-written to make it make sense, but it doesn't right now.

I kinda got the vibe Debbie and Frank were meant to be boyfriend and girlfriend now, each with their own kid. That's how you would write around even the step angle, even if only in a very technical by-the-letter-of-the-law way.

But yeah, the visuals work against that. Especially with Erik and Tammy.

It's not overly explicit that they're just friends, seeing as they have photos of their kids together from years ago. They may not have been living together, but the idea of them being romantic isn't exactly far fetched, seeing as Debbie took the MC in and treated him like family.

- Frank would've slept in the same bed as Debbie in that very same house, even if not always.
- There was only one car, because Debbie was playing the role of the housewife, even though they weren't married.
- Again Debbie was the "housewife" while Frank was the man of the house.
- Debbie took the loss of Frank hard, because she was romantically involved with him, even though they weren't married.
- Jenny felt he was like a father figure, even though they weren't related.
- Is it implied that they shared a bank account? I'm not sure on that one. If they did share a bank account, perhaps it was because they were playing house, while not married. The only other financial connection I recall, is the debt that's owed to the Russian mob by Frank. The mob isn't concerned whether or not they were married.
- Why do they look alike? Look up Twin Strangers

That's all for now. They don't start from scratch, but they've taken down all scenes and rework everything. The updates so far a minimal and extremely slow. So maybe if you check back in a year or two, you will have most of the content back.

Why are people trying to make the current story work as a non-incest story? Some with far too lengthy write ups, all things considered.

It was never meant to work. It was a bunch of minor dialogue changes to skirt by Patreon guidelines. Largely designed to be easily modifiable back to what it once was. You're putting more effort into it than DC did.

Even the new stuff could easily be cranked back to mom/son/sister/aunt.

I had no problem with it. I get why it's done. It's business as usual for most incest games now.

As an aside, you also have one or two people out here talking about "evidence that it used to be an incest game". How about we try the actual game being a straight up incest game in version in 0.14(?). I know some of you were late to the party, but it's not a puzzle to be solved.

I've often wondered if Summertime Saga could be re-written in a similar fashion, but I just can't see it.

It cannot, because Patreon even discourages that kind of replay. Also, because Summertime Saga was caught in the first wave of crackdowns by Patreon in 2017-2018, if DC fucks around... he'll find out.

If you are playing a game with that kind of roleplay that does have a Patreon page - either the game hasn't been reported yet or the developer and Patreon have come to an agreement on certain aspects of the game (perhaps the characters are nearly the same age or some other plot device).

Literally says "not yet available" - You cannot enable it.

You can only play the preview version. Preview version has all the money and all the stats just the like the above. For 21.0.0-wip.5091 there is no "new" content (outside of a few scenes) since v0.20.16 and all the old content has not been fully migrated over, yet.
