Question on the Incest Patch...

I have always played the story with the incest patch, but I found that the incest patch is becoming progressively worse.
Especially with the (Erik?)neighbour's mom/landlady. It's becoming so bad that I'm wondering what is the lesser of two evils.

I do not consider myself a hardcore incest fan, but I hate playing un-patched incest games, as the whole premise of these games becomes totally unrealistic. The whole premise of an incest game is the taboo of the relationship and the ways these barriers are broken down in the game.

The whole idea of a schoolkid staying with a landlady and a housemate they may or may not be the landlady's mother, is so fucking flat. It provides no real premise for the game. I mean why would a scoolkid not stay with family? What happened to his parents? Why would the MC feel obliged to do anything, like mowing lawn, fixing plumbing for someone that is not family? Staying with non family in the house would not make any of those relationships taboo. So if both want each other, nothing is standing in their way etc. etc.

So my question comes back to, does DC still write this story with Incest in mind, or did he completly abondan the premise and some poor sob is trying to keep the incest thing alive, but it's becoming more and more irrelevant with the new content?

It's becomming so bad that I'm not sure what the lesser of two evils are...
1) Playing without the incest mod and being stuck with unlikely, convoluted living scenarios of 2 school kids living with strangers for unexplained reasons.
2) Playing with the incest mod, but with the pronouns/names etc. becoming more of a mess with every update.

Sorry about my rant.

The incest patch is becoming less immersive IMO with every update. Does DC still create content with the original relationships in mind? Is the incest patch still worth it? Is the game playable without patch (In terms of immersion)

What incest patch are you using? I never played with one, but the one on the first page of this thread is mentioned to work not very well. There is, however, which is reported to work well.

DC can only lose. He gives the game away for nothing but still makes too much money. He takes three months to deliver quality updates but that's too long. He does some surprise updates in between but they are too small. He works over older art and story again to make it better but half the people don't like it (while the other half likes the new style better). He has a unique art style but people complain he does not hire more artists. He hires a team that helps in keeping up the website, business and -- most important -- write a quality story but people only ask for save game compatibility and skip all the nice scenes. He keeps his fans informed with progress updates and online streaming but half the people complain that he'd better go back to work instead (while the other half would want more of this).

I whine with purpose. I financially supported this game for two years and now my career and relationships in the real world are forcing this part of my life into the toilet for the foreseeable future. Mid-July my girlfriend will be moving in with me and I will have to toss my laptop into the river.

Nothing against DC. This is a masterpiece in the making and already better than anything else I've played. Mostly just disappointed I can't dedicate 5 years of my life to porn.. well.. uh.. another 5.

Funny how incredibly bitter some people seem to get when someone like DC is making decent money. He's not charging anyone anything, instead patrons give exactly how much they feel like giving and can withdraw their pledge anytime they want, and at the end of the day the game is released for everyone whether they've put a dime into it or not. And still some people in here seem to think that just because DC has been successful with his game, and is making money for producing one of highest quality games in the genre, that opens him to whining and crying about everything from update schedule to art to DCs monthly income, mostly by people who've never invested a cent into the game.

The way I see it, it's a bit like complaining about politicians, if you don't vote you forfeit the right to moan. If you don't participate, you can moan and whine, but you just come off looking like an entitled brat.

I was with you right up until that last bit. This does not describe me, but if someone were so unimpressed by their (often at most) 2 choices on the ballot for a particular office, that they decided to stay home (or just leave a particular choice blank on their ballot), I would argue they still have a full right to complain about the performance of whatever official ends up elected. Again, not speaking for myself, since I do still make the effort even when it's to choose the lesser of two evils, but opting not to support *either* of two evils doesn't mean you can't complain about the evil that gets elected.

Imagine, for example, a choice between Hitler and Mussolini. If someone decided not to vote for either, should they have to shut their trap for the duration of the winner's time in office? I mean, yeah, either of those two would have them thrown in prison (or worse) if they didn't, but you know what I mean...


But away from the hypotheticals and back to the core subject - the criticism of the pace, and whatever else, of SS's development is a very different case. Anyone is certainly free to criticize, but there are far more than two choices available here, and at the end of the day the only voices of dissent that are likely to be taken into consideration are those of the people paying. Much the same way the designers of the next Hummer wouldn't be influenced by the opinion of someone who drives a Prius, or the menu of a steakhouse isn't going to change according to the wishes of vegans.

So with the newest update I've been trying to do all the storylines, and all that I'm left with is the Erik's mom quest and like, 2 teachers I think, and I just straight up can't do the Erik storyline at all. I did the event at the mom's yoga class and got Anna her dog back, and I believe I got the find Erik's cards event before either of those, but I've been playing on and off forever so I'm only 95% sure about that. I get a conversation when I enter the house at night saying Erik is in the basement, and he just straight up isn't, and his only dialogue option is "Where is your mom?" when I go to his room. Any help please? I'm playing with the incest patch and on cheat mode, if either of those help. If this is the wrong thread for this then I apologize, I've just never posted on here before, I'm just really sad I can't get 1 file with all the stories completed.

the way i see it, if an update takes 4 times as long, it should, at the very least, have 4 times more content. however, that's not really what i have seen. and by that i dont mean 4 times more "fluff", or obnoxious grinds, but true content. right now, the last few updates had good content(still not enough for the time it takes imo), but HORRENDOUS grind and pacing, with most of the scenes only delivered around the final part.

It's a VN after all, that wants to tell a story. If you just want to have fast porn this is simply not the game to play. With that in mind the pacing can't really be changed unless you either want to remove important elements of the story or make the whole update even bigger/longer. Else one should not only account for the amount of content (or what ever you would call "true content" - sex scenes, I suppose?) but the quality as well.

I know this is basically a classical discussion wether such games are actually games or porn, but I'm personally really happy that we get more story, quests, etc. compared to before. It makes the game as a whole quite a bit better.

Do you have some sort of graph that has specific details on exactly how much a developer is supposed to do in any given timeframe?
Content-per-time is a completely arbitrary and impossible calculation.
If one thing takes a month to complete, then it's one month of content.
If another thing takes four months to complete, then it's four months of content.
They have a graph on their Patreon page that shows exactly how much they've gotten done for the current update.
I'm sure that telling them that their graph is wrong and giving them yours, it'll somehow make them work faster.
Their graph even shows that the writing for the current update isn't complete.
You can't make animations or gameplay for a story that isn't done yet.
So many of these games get abandoned because the developer runs out of ideas.
Who's to say this one isn't just as susceptible to that?
Maybe he's sitting in his chair thinking as hard as he can right now as to how he's going to shape this next bit of the story.
Maybe he just realized that whole scene he just finished completely contradicts an early scene so it now has to be completely scrapped.
Maybe he has come up with a much better idea and is currently working on one of the biggest updates yet.
MAYBE HE'S TAKING THIS LONG BECAUSE THAT'S HOW LONG IT TAKES.

well,sometimes people dont know how to measure things,and the problem gets exponentially bigger when you rub something the wrong way(to some people)in the wrong time,most of the problem in the art sector is occurring 'cuz DC simply wanted to give a more 'fresh" look to the characters to make them more part of the atmosphere of the game,while giving him a easier way to work,cant really blame him from trying that,but we cant really predict the consequences this kind of action can have IN THE PUBLIC(its even more harder to predict when SS have a public so big and varied)...

Returning to the earlier comment you marked,i would still defend my idea that we shouldnt be suggar-coating DC cuz this could easily trigger the reaction of people unhappy with his work right now,making this thread flooded with angry people hell bent in having their frustations vented against any DC defenders...
The same goes to shit-slinging,badmouthing,or number countings,which can easily triggers the reaction of anyone who likes DC work and thinks its worth defending it under a heavy and flaming shitstorm,you need to understand people,he IS making profit because people want him to,its simple as that...

Yeah, I use my imagination to turn off the notion of what I'm looking at is completely fake so I can immerse myself in the produced product I am using.

Let me try and explain. If I watch lord of the rings, or game of thrones etc. I suspend my believe in certain things and use my imagination to immerse myself in the world. If Someone suddenly appears with a machine gun in this world, it would completely break the immersion for me and the show would become unwatchable.

I can overlook certain plot holes, or subtle inconsistencies, but there is a line where if it becomes too much, I can not immerse myself anymore.

An example for myself would be the Movie "Independence day". The first part of the movie was so riveting, but then someone could suddenly device a virus to infect the alien's tech, as well as all nations being able to shoot down the Motherships like the US's remaining airforce (The best in the world barely being able to do it). So this was just about the line in the movie for me. So I could still watch it, but it was starting to break the imersion for me.

So you see it's all relative. With or without the patch Summertime's saga imersion in this one arc is becomming tough to overcome for me.
