imagine 50.000$ for a game.... There are even harder games with dev's who are taking 2/3/4/5 thousands per month and still working faster with updates... no respect from DarkCookie.

And there are also games barely muddling along or that have been outright abandoned. DC is one of the few game makers doing all his own art. Most other games use pre-rendered and copied 3D models for their games. That or they commission artwork from multiple people, leaving the game to have very little visual cohesion.
Who cares what the man makes? If he's making 50k a month and he splits that amongst five or six people, that number suddenly drops for him alone. Regardless, more money does not mean faster updates. That's not how it works. He's getting more money than most other game makers because he's making something different than most people in his line of work and the masses love it for that.
There's a small number of reasons most of the Adult Interactive Fiction titles are so obscure, sitting in an alpha stage, abandoned or getting low quality updates pushed out quickly.

Same cliche story (admittedly, there's not much you can do if you're wanting to make a story with incest but still)
Oversaturation of said incest content. Currently wating for beastiality, loli/shota or some other "taboo" subject to become the next "in" thing to make a game about. Creators need to make what they love not what they think everyone else wants. It was nice to see some chubby-centric games appear last year, for example, despite a lot of people here shitting on it, rather than ignoring it.
Poor grammar and/or translations (Shitty grammar is an immediate no go for me and many others when it comes playing an AIF title, regardless of how good the art looks)
