They are having to rewrite the code and are realising the rewritten game in chunks. So currently it has less content.

Summertime Saga has always been 100% free the 8+ years it has been on Patreon - to anyone who wants it, directly from the developer's website. Subscribers are not subscribing for access to the game (if they are, they are idiots for doing so for a game that everyone can get for free and is told by the developer the game is 100% free).
TL;DR: So, no, your comparison of Summertime Saga to that other title does not hold water simply for the fact of the differences in how the developers make their product available: Dark Cookie has provided his product free to the general public for 8+ years but the other developer paywalls their product from the general public.
This Count guy is giving more head to the dev than all of the characters in SS give to the MC combined.

I mean, the guy clearly said he didn't intend to finish the game, he wants to keep adding more and more. I won't be surprised if it's takes 3 years+ before we got at the same point we were in the story.
