to be fair man, not every dev is like this one. TK8000 (high school tutor, solvalley school) for example pauses patreon and does not charge anyone a penny if he didnt release any new content for his games that month. so not everyone is a milker undeserving of any money.
that being said, milking is still super common.but can you blame them? i mean if you could sit back and get 6 million (the bare minimum dark cookie has made assuming patrons only donate 1$ over that time since the start of the "tech update) for doing basically dick all 99.9% of the year, then work for maybe like 2 hours to pump out 3-5 minutes of content so patreon doesn't kick you off the site... wouldn't you? i mean for 6 million dollars i would do an awful lot, being able to do nothing and still get it is like a dream come true. why the fuck would anyone not? so yeah there are a lot of milkers, and dark cookie is the milker king. but its the same reason the normal video game industry is riddled with cash shops, micro transactions, and loot "packs" because the whales keep buying, and they buy so much it rakes in more money than just normally buying the game by like a factor of 10. it is what it is. its normal to do what makes the most money with the least amount of effort. you just mad you didn't think of it first.
Edit: i just wanna add and make clear, im not defending dark cookie, he's a scum scammer. im just spelling out the reality of the situation. and frankly its shocking how many people seem to still be defending this literal millionaire scammer.
Ya exactly, Dark Cookie will just keep doing what makes him the most of amount of money with the least amount of effort. You could argue working more and releasing more content would earn him more, but those extra earnings aren’t worth the extra work. In fact, if a dev wanted to work more on games it’d probably be more profitable for them to create a new game under a new name to try and get a second cash cow going.
It’s not right, but as long as his patrons keep paying him literal millions of dollars he has no reason to change. Devs can only get away with what their patrons allow them too. All of the milking, scamming, dishonesty, and lying in the adult games industry would not exist anywhere close to the extent it does today if patrons stopped paying and held devs accountable. Instead they enable devs shitty behavior and naturally devs will take the easiest path to making lots of money.
I just don’t understand the mindset of a patron who continues to subscribe when it’s become blatantly obvious they’re being taken advantage of. Don’t you give money because you enjoy the game and want to see more content in a timely manner? Well, if you all started holding devs accountable, rather than enable them to milk, lie and scam, you would get way more content way more quickly. Your patronage is causing the opposite of what want.
This entire industry is fucked, and it makes normal people giving devs money pointless. Why should I give money when it’s just going to result in the dev taking advantage of it? And then when that starts happening, so I stop giving them money, it doesn’t change anything because of all the patrons out their that continue giving despite being taken advantage of. You can never hold devs accountable by voting with you wallet because there’s too many patrons voting to enable them, so it’s not wonder so many games turn out like this when they get big.
