I hate how much I love this game, it was one of the first ones I played after all I saw people commenting on the game in groups in 2017, especially about Eve, the soundtrack, art and story made it worth every second, seeing the current state is sad, but it happens.
In the Covid era, developers were much more productive and people supported them. But the same productivity is not the case for most producers. This is a sad situation.

so, i was wondering... they've been doin incremental updates now, but the tech update has still been stuck at 86% with "code" being the biggest outlier in the unfinished pipeline...

but I thought about the updates as part/showcase of what the tech update is... So like there "was" 80%+ content from that update that should've been readily available to ship...

so I'm considering that they are drip feeding this content for what has now been 7 updates and basically almost a year... yet the actual tech update hasn't increased in completion at all.

So like what are we waiting for every 2 months. Because I assumed "coding" portion of the tech update should've been increasing as content was being released... Like if the tech update is no closer to finishing with these updates. What is the point? Like I don't understand where the time and energy for development is being put.

This feel like such a scam at this point. For patreons especially. But also for fans (freeloaders) that really have devoted a lot of time to support, praise, and spend energy on this game.

Like my biggest grievance is the that if the last 6 updates we were just being given piece meal parts of the tech update that was already complete. Why did we wait 6 updates for them. Couldn't it all have been 1 update, instead of being milked over the span of a year?

And why hasn't the tech update been nearing completion with these updates? Aren't these update suppose to be developed alongside the tech update then? Because now we have terrible content and the tech update still just staying in limbo as it has been in the last 3 years. There's no point in this new content of the tech update isn't nearing completion.

Because at some point we will still have to wait for it to finish... and maybe there's no actual new content when the "tech update" finishes because its main purpose is code refactoring, not content additions...

You've got a long post with a lot of wrong information.

Debbie's update was NEVER part of the tech update. So none of the tasks that are for the tech update have been completed while they have been working on Debbie's update. The tech update has been effectively on hold since late September because of this.

The time and energy for development is being put into Debbie's update.

Debbie and Jenny have the most artwork in the VN. Jenny's update took a massively long time, as well, before the tech update. Writing the new code of Jenny's path (not even an update, for the most part) during the tech update dragged the tech update to a near crawl, as well.

No, it couldn't have all been 1 update. Have you looked at how many scenes are involved with Debbie? How much art needing redone? how much posing of the layers of the art? how much coding that is also involved? etc etc etc

Did Dark Cookie underestimate (yet again) how long he thought it would take? Yup.

Patrons aren't paying for the game. It's a free game. For everyone. No subscription required. Dark Cookie has even told people if they don't like the way he's doing things, they should not subscribe.

I hope that helps.

If people didn't defend DC perhaps the game would have been completed by now

No one is defending DC. We're simply reminding people of the facts and the events that have led up to this. The people you claim are defending DC have shared criticisms many times in this thread but because we aren't fervently agreeing with false information and biased perspectives, the next line of attack is to insult the messengers.

Also, if you have been following this title for more than a month, you should be already well aware there is no such thing as this being complete any time soon. Since at least 2017, DC has stated publicly that as long as he enjoys what he is doing, as long as fans enjoy it, as long as he has more ideas, as long as fans want more content, he can see himself developing Summertime Saga for a very long time.
Last fall, he even stated he would like to add another 100 NPCS ... maybe even 200 more NPCS, if not more.

Get past the idea this will ever be "finished' or "completed" because it is publicly known that it won't happen ... at least not for a very long time.

let's see...it's the last day of the month...no update. Still...got 20 hours until June.
No, there are still 25 hours left in May on the planet. It isn't June worldwide until then. But you can most likely expect it about 12-18 hours from now.

Am sure a remake isn't what we expected when he said that..if a remake didn't happen a DC just dragged the game like adding new characters etc. I wouldn't mind..the way things are going right now..it will take 3years + before the remake caughts up with the old version

True, but unless you live in Hawaii, the United States have only 20 hours left until midnight. Because if I remember correctly DC lives on the East Coast (if he lives in the US. He might be Canadian or British, I honestly have no idea.)

Canada.
Yes. you do remember correctly.
But the world is not the US.
And as long as it is 31 May in somewhere in the world, and he drops it, he hits the end of May.
And, as you noticed, I stated the likely time frame 12-18 hours - but it could be 20 or more.

You're right - it wasn't. But he couldn't add more content without all the code rework/restart. He expected this to be done in 2021 based upon what his previous coder convinced him and his own lack of an ability to properly estimate. He sucks as a project manager. He sucks as an estimator. He also has publicly stated he hates deadlines. <shrug>

But since he already has in mind he doesn't plan to complete Summertime Saga anytime soon, it appears he's not going to rush or speed up the tech update because to him, he's got all the time in the world. And that's his vision. And he's the lead developer and creator. If we don't like it, he has publicly stated he doesn't care. He's stated people shit on him when he does one thing, people shit on him when he does the opposite - so if people are going to shit on him no matter what, he's going to do what he wants.

I'm not saying it's how I would do things - but people have to just live with the reality that Dark Cookie will do what he wants because he has the luxury to do so. Because of his vision of "open ending" and new subscribers pledge every month.

Ain't nothing any of us can do to change it.

I think your argument might be a bit too complex for him to understand.
