DC on Discord "We had planned on releasing tonight (Saturday) but we may need 1 or 2 more days for stability and polishing. My apologies! ❤"
He says stability and polishing, but part of me feels he didn't finish the changing room scene. Dude was still drawing that last night.

There were like 4 new sequences he was drawing, if you followed the streams, and two were so far off completion, I didn't think they'd make the cut. DC's made a total hash of the rate of drawing art.

what the hell is he adding that might be an issue?
He wont be finishing Debbie story yet again despite claiming so 2 months ago . Not only that apparently the little content that was planned for this 2+ month "update" is not finished yet. People say he still kept drawing scenes till the last moment. DC fan boys away claim that the art drawing rate is not the limiting factor. Well today's situation proves that's not true.

Well, DC milks his patreons a bit differently than the average creator does. DC is lazy. His team is small and I bet they're not full time either. Imo the real issue people find with his milking is that he could do A LOT better.. Actually hire more people, finish STS and make another game and continue to grow. The fact he doesn't do that, makes him a milker.. Saying that it's a free game and people who aren't patreons shouldn't complain is kinda arrogant.. people like the game, that's why they state their opinions.. even the haters, the loved the game at start.. before yearly updates that need polish every time before release..
Seems like his patrons don't have any issue with it. :Kappa:

After setting May 31 as a deadline, it is not such a beautiful thing to postpone it when 56 percent of the world is living on June 1. This is the result of grappling with the technical definition of Late May or May 31, like the last few months. If he didn't think everything would be ready on May 31, I think there would have been a better way than to postpone it at 11:42 p.m. on May 31.
Should people not care what he does because the people who download the game are free users? If he does what he wants, people just say what they want.

I am not even mad with this "HD Remake", this is giving me for what i started this game back in the day before the "incest censor shit", Jenny and Debbie content upgraded, i dont care for the "extra characters" that the main game kept adding and adding.

in fact i am eager for nexts versions, for expanded Debbie route.

Sorry guys, but don't you think it's off topic to discuss about where he lives. Instead of searching when is the next update ? We just want next update and not where he lives right ?

It's getting worse and worse. It's not just the constant piecemeal nature of these updates. The team had two months and knew the release date was May 31, but they couldn't make it.
if there are people who continue to support it, this thing happens again and again and again... but it's always the same old discussion.

You've got a long post with a lot of wrong information.

Debbie's update was NEVER part of the tech update. So none of the tasks that are for the tech update have been completed while they have been working on Debbie's update. The tech update has been effectively on hold since late September because of this.

The time and energy for development is being put into Debbie's update.

Debbie and Jenny have the most artwork in the VN. Jenny's update took a massively long time, as well, before the tech update. Writing the new code of Jenny's path (not even an update, for the most part) during the tech update dragged the tech update to a near crawl, as well.

No, it couldn't have all been 1 update. Have you looked at how many scenes are involved with Debbie? How much art needing redone? how much posing of the layers of the art? how much coding that is also involved? etc etc etc

Did Dark Cookie underestimate (yet again) how long he thought it would take? Yup.

Patrons aren't paying for the game. It's a free game. For everyone. No subscription required. Dark Cookie has even told people if they don't like the way he's doing things, they should not subscribe.

I hope that helps.
Ok so I get that now, but my concern remains... what is the point of these updates as far as addressing the update pipeline... because the tech update was suppose to be the "tech update" and what followed is annie, rhonda, etc. No where was there any inclusion of revamping old content albeit porting that content towards the "tech update"

Under that assumption... the backend should've been addressed to be able to run all old content retro actively. because then what has the last 3 years been even about. I was under the assumption that along with the "tech update" they were actively porting old content into their new framework.

If that is NOT the case, as the Debbie upgrades are an example of such work -- they are effectively going to have to redo EVERY piece of content that came before. Roxy, Tony, completion of School Staff, Eric, Mia, Nun, Jenny, Consuela... etc...It has taken about 3 or so updates just to showcase their intention with the Debbie updates... but like wtf? So we're gonna have another 2 years of upgrading the content I've listed before they even get to the "tech update"

Again... what have the last 2-3 years been even about? I thought they were redoing backend and relinking old content to it. Adjusting and updating artwork to fit widescreen ratio. But like that could've/should've been done along side the "tech update"

Again, I want a qualified description of what the fck they were doing for 2-3 years. Because if this new content is outside that original scope... my concern is still valid. We're going to have to upgrade all remaining content before the "tech update" because that has been put on hold?

Like wtf. How long are people going to wait. How long are they going to continue this milking shit... like wtf was going on for 2-3 years. When things are being upgraded in the backend, things should be actively being ported to that new frame -- I would easily defend the time it takes to port things to a new system... but the fact that they were no actively doing that and just NOW showcasing what the new framework CAN do using Debbie is horrific. This is fcking Renpy. Production pipelines for this isn't like Unreal or Unity. They aren't shit if thats the case. If they can't just port over content.

Asset creation is probably the biggest time constraint for game dev. Coding and QA doesn't take as much time as actual asset creation and implementation. So if it took 6 months just to port Debbie content, imagine how long it will take to port all the other characters... like WTF. Again -- why wasn't these ported over along side with engine/framework revisions.

Is Darkcookie that incompentent. Is Darkcookie that fcking greedy. That is absolutely asinine...

I don't care about the updates, but for people who do it, this is not a good sign. It reinforces that the devs are trying to work the least possible while still getting money from it. Like someone else said, they have no passion over the project.

And, if they do it once and get away with it, they'll likely try to make it official, saying stuff like: "To ensure quality releases we're extending the development cycle to three months instead of two. Trust us, it'll be more content." (Translation: "we're going to take three months to release what we did in two, because we know you suckers won't mind anyway".)
