Suprise , suprise Debbie's route is still not finished !

From the site : " We are now working on the later part of Debbie's story and content. The next update will focus on the finale of her story along with multiple animated scenes. In the meantime we hope that her story showcases the level of quality we intend to keep throughout the rest of her content. "
2 months ago " Following this release, we are now working on the remaining last part of her content which will include her last animated scenes and will be released in the next update (in 2 months)"

In two months he will say he need an other 2 months to ACTUALLY finish it. This guy is so full of shit.

2 months for only this crap? Now i really believe that DC is milking, there is no fucking excuse to what's he is doing right now... this game should be finished ages ago... he just doesen't want to lose his income...
Yeah, I've been giving a buck a month for a while, down from 5 bucks a month for a long time cuz I kinda forgot this game existed. This whole milking of the tech update is so disgusting I've cancelled my meager buck a month now too.

DC needs to feel pain in his wallet before anything changes. If ANYONE here has a membership with that POS they should cancel immediately.

I don't know what the devs have been doing through those 2-3 years, but I'm sure they barely spent time working on their game.

I've unpacked + decompiled 0.20.16 and wip.5791 to compare them. Here's what the devs did:

1. Files and directories have been completely reorganised. Overall things are easier to find in the WIP, so that's an improvement for further development.
This is soul-crushing boring activity, that takes exactly zero skill (unless find and replace became arcane knowledge). You will want to procrastinate it forever, but once you decide "yeah, got to do it", it should take days, not years to complete.

2. Apparently assets are not being remade from the scratch, but they're being resized and in some cases blank space is being removed. For example:
Note the Missy images; I'm almost sure you can't fuck Missy yet in the WIP (I couldn't even find Eve in the park). But it's there in the archive. Oddly enough I couldn't find the pregnancy images in the WIP.
As #1 this should take days, not years to complete. Even if you're recutting the paperdolls (I didn't dig deep enough to see if they did it, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say they did.)

3. The code was remade from the scratch; apparently with the same dialogue as before. Here's an example:
View attachment 4897803
Both are Jenny hitting MC with a hair dryer. Both are bad but still somewhat readable; if the old code is six, the new code is a half dozen. (Protip: avoid abbreviations. Your future self will NOT remember what they meant, and will spend more time deciphering them than it would take for you to type the thing out. Cue to a/b/f/m to mean arms/body/face/mouth.)

It's way more complex to estimate how much time this would take; but certainly not 2~3 years to redo the whole thing. As in, even giving the devs the benefit of the doubt, the new versions should've reached feature parity (same content) as 0.20 ages ago.

And I can't emphasise this enough: all those three things can be done gradually, without restarting from the scratch. If you do #1 and #2 correctly users don't even notice what you did, and #3 will be like "ah, finally they fixed that bug".
This was actually really neat. Thank you for the share.

Its just so sad and frustrating. I gave a "review" back when they released the school staff WIP. I praised them for the optimization from the getgo. The main menu loaded a lot faster, and didn't experience latency like it did in previous builds. They game itself was fine (I didn't recall anything too diffrent) but for what it was, I was satisfied that you could feel the optimization right from the main menu.

The soul crushing work is there, and its understandable... but it has to be done. In a timely manner. Tracing code to get your bearings isn't that hard. Although you're right, I obfuscate my code too sometimes and it sometimes has taken me an hour retracing what some code was suppose to do... but once its figured out, refactoring gets faster and faster. But also recutting and the tedious tasks with assets and file organization... like eh. You'd be suprised how many 2D assets can be resized/recut/reformatted in just an hour. 2D assets -- they are created already, they're not necessarily being redrawn. So much can be accomplished in just an hour. Same with file organization. If the could is already setup for new pathing. 1 Hour of renaming files, adding/deleting folders, rebuilding folder hierarchy can accomplish SO MUCH. It really feels like "oh, I renamed a file, time to take a 5 hour coffee break"...

Yeah, gradual implementation should've been the way -- at least instead of a 2 year hiatus... they could've at least done gradual feature implementation. And made placeholders if necessary. To late to rewrite history -- its just disappointing.

It really is just sad. I blame both incompetence and greed. Its just sad an indie dev would put greed over passion. I'm really starting to believe that somewhere along the way, DC lost that passion for this project and just wanted to reap the income. Who wouldn't. But no one should support summertime saga as it is now. Nor should they ever trust them with a new project in the future. This prevents any sort of sunk cost fallacy some patreons are facing.

I'd rather be sad that a project got abandoned (like some of my favorites onf95) than have to experience what a lot of summertime saga fans are.

So how many updates until Debbie's story is finally finished? At this rate it will take him years until he reaches pre tech update content ?

Sad what this project has come to.

Aside from there being very few scenes, they're also oddly poor in quality.

This doesn't feel like the same animator who made the stuff in 20.16. Some of these animations are oddly lazy. You can tell by the angles too.

That couch scene is probably the most basic form of animation you can do. I mean I'm horrible at it, haven't animated since I was a youngin, but even I could pull something like that given a couple days...
