That doesn't make it impossible to unlock all the scenes. At that point you probably have finished all the school girls stories you just have to choose one to go to the prom with. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get all their scenes.

I guess his point was more that there will probably be some kind of after prom sex scene which would then be exclusive to that one girl MC took.

Yeah I like the idea of helping him get with June. Mia's story would have to be completly different if he decides to remove the branching paths. I won't say any of the stories will be bad until I play them. They will have to be very different but I don't think they will be bad. But as you said it will still take a while until he needs to work on those stories, and I have a feeling he will ignore the poll and still add the different paths.
I think it'll depend on how much he wants his characters to stay somewhat credible. It doesn't really make sense to mix for example Mia and Helen given their feelings towards each other (or you'll need a huuuge redemption arc for them) and it'll be even harder to mix Judith and the Latinas in a way that doesn't look like it's totally constructed. Choices just make it so much easier to write a story that makes sense and stays true to everybody's character.
I just like to wait before judging if it is bad or not. But yeah it will be very hard to make those stories credible, I agree with you.
