I already knew this would happen when they announced this. I doubt its not just the NSFW pages but everything. This is just too juicy for trolls not to abuse. As a former shit poster Id abuse the hell out of it as would anyone else. What a dumb way to keep patreon pc. Instead of being a useful tool they are going to create so much work for themselves.

Wrong way to view it actually. The "PC" argument ignores that Patreon is trying to clean up its image for new people that take it entirely too corporate. Corporate bullshit tends to be the PC so that it has a good squeaky clean image even though Patreon's best supporters tend to be those that love some skin.

Think about how Downtown Manhattan was XXX rated in the 70s and nowadays, it's Disney-rific. Same process online.

Patreon basically wants to push out the ones that helped make the platform (adult entertainment basically) to sell for a good price. So this type of cleanup was bound to happen.

It's only going to get worse until someone comes in that caters to the very market they're pushing away.

Isn't this whole thing partly a damand by payment processors and companies like Paypal who want "clean" content? I've read it several times now and if that's true it's not really so much patreon's fault since losing for example paypal would certainly hit their business a lot.

If so, this will be a problem for any possible alternative aswell. Either they'll have to switch to some unique systems who care less but are way less common and thus not that many people will use them (if they find any at all) or they'll run into the same troubles as patreon does now.

I mean it's not like we are talking about the usual "porn" but Incest and especially underage content (when it comes to DmD for example).

If you look at DMD and BB they were asking to be banned. DMD made the mistake of not changing the title and then posting on his page how to restore the incest content. BB did nothing to prepare for the crack down. MrDots page is still up but any funding he gets from patreon can not go to DMD. He also has to submit to patreon has next game for approval. So you cant, as of yet, say a clean page and a patreon approved game will get a ban. I would really start worrying if DoD gets banned as his page and game complies with their TOS.

Can you not just have a separate site advertising your game(s) and their content, but use a nondescript or blank/clean patreon to dm out download links or even just passwords to password-locked downloads to get even another step further from posting "banned" content?

I think for MrDots he can post DMD on his site and use patreon for his new game. At least that seems like what he is going to do. Ive seem some devs remove their game that clearly violates patreons TOS, but post a new game that wont.

Yeah, this isn't really about politics, but about corporate image. They want to appear squeaky clean in the ways that matter.

Well again, I don't think Dc is really in that much danger. I just meant that for DmD and whatnot.

Like hour ago DS (BB's dev) said on his discord that in his opinion at least 10 biggest incest devs will go down. He has experience with Patreon's staff so it's something to be considered

I mean its an opinion first. Whether it happens we will have to see. Once again this game doesn't require much effort to remove the one thing that can get it into trouble with patreon TOS. So the work to fix it wont be too much on DC and crew. Might push the .15 update back a little, but I highly doubt Summertime Saga gets the ban hammer unlike BB and DMD. I feel sorry for them, but neither of them put in the effort to avoid it.

I don't think the problem is so much finding "a payment system" but one that's actually accessible without "any" effort for a lot of users. Sure, there is a number of people who will go through quite a lot of hassle but that number is likely rather small and if you've got to make the effort to set up a special accounts on a payment system you maybe aren't even sure about, you may will just download the content illegally and that's it. While special solutions may be still possible for already successful games like SS, it would very likely be a lot harder for smaller creators who depend on people to drop a fast pledge here and there.

Notice what happens as markets consolidate and collapse. You have to work with criminal banks for funding and most of that money is out of America or invested (poorly) in things that fuck over the common man and the services they use.

Patreon is the first in the new corner to create alternative funding to the banking that's basically not giving out to anyone since 2007 (bank failures and such)

You do need alternatives, but how they come out and who makes them is anyone's guess. What Patreon does *WELL* is show that community funding (funding from the public) can be done. But as it follows a Chase bank or anything else, you're likely to see this PC clean up more and more.

Anyway, I'll leave this here as just food for thought. It's best to go back to praising Summertime Saga and considering how 15 needs all four teachers with 2 sex scenes apiece.

Well to be fair, the terms are rather clear and basically only apply the law of most states/countries. As far as I'm aware patreon really only cares about basic concent, bestiality, incest, necrophilia and loli content. Of course that's somewhat of a problem for some games but it's not like you can't produce games which are just as good in a different setting and I doubt that this niche - as it is now - is big enough for something else to actually florish.

But yes, that discussion certainly doesn't belong here in this topic until something actually happens (which I'd guess it won't anyway)

That's true as well. Patreon lowers the bar for payment so that it is very low-effort to contribute. I know it's made me more willing to pay in some cases, at least.
