The 1st point: It's just a gameIn theory there's nothing wrong with this. Just like you can decide which girl you wanna romance the most, you can choose if you want to see the girls fuck somebody else. It's just a game, you're not actually getting cucked.
The issue is that, in reality, it's almost unheard of that a dev can successfully make a game with 2 very different story lines.
It's too much work, one side always gets more than the other and you end up with 2 factions of fans that despise each other and half of the game
Logically valid but realistically? Majority (or at least large portion of people) have a trait called empathy which kinda forces us to become (feel) as if we are the protagonist. It strongly depends on narration. For example in game of thrones (Song of ice and fire) i could feel for characters but i wasn't as heavily invested or more like could not immerse myself in characters worries.
Other example which made me fidget a bit is Dune series, it was so surreal when MC (Paul->Leto) changed and he became a secondary character i felt like something was missing.
Dragon age (1;2;3) - First MC always felt somehow more closer to me than the others and i was always interested and engaged to know what happened to him even when playing Inquisition.
On the other hand books that mainly concentrate on one MC you immerse yourself.
The difference is like hearing there was a tragic accident and being in it yourself.
2nd point: Completely agreed.
Not to mention that NTR is on opposite spectrum of "vanilla-romance". I would even say that generally speaking it is on opposite spectrum of standard male fantasies i.e. men tend to dream about harems and exclusivity not the opposite.
Thus if you put NTR you automatically make the script writing so much harder (and the opposite if your main is NTR and you put harem/slow romance).
Not the best comparison: Add puzzle/quest elements in Call of Duty <- Are there games like that, i'm pretty sure there are but are they popular? Nope, they might have some niche fans but they will never enter the big markets (at least with current humans)
