In the scene player, I see 24 scenes left. Does that mean there are only 6 story updates left (assuming 4 scenes every update) or will that be expanded? The story appears to be progressing very slowly compared to previous games or may have a rushed ending.

It will be expanded. It was the same in previouse games too
