The problem is, it looks like uberpie got a whole year of support for doing steam version that now is irrelevant, and for most supporters always was. While I doubt losing steam was intentional, it happened. So now we have a year of supporters money spent on supporting team with irrelevant work.

The refusal of Steam really means a huge loss of money to the team. It's no strange that some one would leave while remainders need time to consider the game updating plan as well as their own future.

They still have SS. As long as they deliver updates to the game, not reworks, I dont think their money situation will worsen much.

So, the newest update - Season 1 Redux - was planned for a Steam release on this coming Tuesday. But Steam just pulled it from the site. So it will be a bit, but it shouldn't be a year for the dev team to release from themselves what was going to be on Steam.

It's what the entire conversation in this thread over the last page and a half has been about.

Until then, you will need to play it on an older android device, or play it on a computer. Or figure some way of getting your < 1 year old device to play it (and other games on this site which haven't been released yet for the latest Android versions...)

What always amazes me is that there are people here who seriously think this was some kind of planned move on his part, or that it was somehow obvious considering Steam’s policies. I’ve explained in detail why their current income is significantly lower compared to Patreon, sitting around $17-19k. Not to mention, it took them an entire year to reach this number. So, if you look at the yearly total, it’s roughly half that.

They did it - they changed the class to a lecture hall, updated the students’ outfits, adjusted the environment, and so on. But it didn’t help because Steam’s support team and their subjective manual review know best, apparently. And of course, the characters’ ages - with their size-five chests - are an issue.

Nothing will help if your game gets reviewed by some bitter individual looking for a reason to be offended. Do I need to start listing examples of games Steam seems perfectly fine with?

I have some really unpleasant news to share with you. Let me start by saying that we will keep our promise to you. We stand by our word, and the project is ready - you’ll be getting it very soon.

Typically, Steam reviews projects within 3-5 days. However, in this case, the manual review has dragged on for over two weeks (they didn’t approve the project through their automated system). Just an hour ago, we received a “lovely” email from the review team. Just like what happened with Patreon - no dialogue, no second chances, just one mail and removal. The project was taken down, and we are now unable to upload it again.

To summarize: we’ve been banned on Patreon, and now we’ve been banned on Steam. On Patreon, it was supposedly due to "violence" (lol), and on Steam, it’s for existing in a "grey area." They’ve decided, based on their own interpretation, that it feels like a school setting - even though we’ve taken every measure to ensure otherwise: the lecture hall setting, clothes style, clear warnings that all characters are over 18, etc. But none of that seems to matter. There’s no mention of a school or anything related to it in the project.

No, we couldn’t have uploaded the project earlier because there were too many things to fix and adjust. No, the project does not contain serious violence (definitely not more than other Patreon - supported projects). It’s all incredibly unfair, but honestly, who cares?

We really want to share our short (and honestly frustrating) correspondence with Steam and Marty from Patreon support, but doing so would violate the platform rules.

Yes, this is absolutely devastating. I think you’ll be able to appreciate just how much the game has changed when we release it (very soon) . We’ve worked on this for almost a year without breaks or vacations. We’re completely burned out - we’ve lived and breathed this dream and hope. We gathered a huge wishlist and impressive stats on Steam. We put so much into this project. At one point, we were ranked 11th among Patreon’s top projects. But no, life had other plans.

Once again, I want to emphasize that the work is done, and you will get the project. This is our commitment to you.

Now, 5,652 is more than 2,500, right?
And then, factor in the 20-30% commission that SubscribeStar takes from creators, unlike Patreon. That leaves them earning about 2.5 times less than they did at the time of the ban on Patreon.

Any comments on this? Where exactly did I misunderstand you this time?

This feels like a moot point, the same problem of subbing for a month would've existed on Patreon.

I think the problem with them pushing for Steam was them doing it after being banned on Patreon. I don't know what Steam's guidelines are for adult games, everything I've heard is that it's really just a "luck of the draw" with whoever reviews your game. If that's the case then they were walking into the situation on unstable footing to begin with. It would've been better to stick with substar or find more alt-platforms to distribute from rather than waste time bending to the whims of another huge platform after getting banned from one of the largest.

OR
If Uberie's subscriber counts across Patreon tiers were similar to what they are across his Subscriberstar tiers.

The first table shows I would be correct in my estimation that I have made about being as much as or more than.
The second table more supports your position (even when we take away your errors and mistatements about how Subscribestar charges developers on the adult domain).

The truth is most likely somewhere in the middle:

• Uberpie's Patreon was about $35,000, on average, in each of his final 6 months on that site
• Uberpie's Subscribestar is $31,363 as of today for the month of January 2025 (with six days remaining to get more subscribers to add to that for the month).
• And their fees are quite similar.

It shows that Uberpie is not hurting.

And bully for him for making bank on both Patreon and then Subscribestar after he was kicked of Patreon. I want developers to succeed - yes, Uberpie, too. But let's not make it sound like he's eating hand to mouth as you've made it seem to bein your rebuttals.

Doesn't matter if they are applied consistently - simply don't put content in your game that would violate the rules and you'll be fine. Just like how people charged for simple possession of illicit drugs aren't always consistent - but the simple fact is if you don't do illicit drugs, you aren't going to get charged. Or better yet, seeing a sign on the door of a store that says "no shirt, no shoes, no service" - people might get served while not wearing a shirt or shoes, but many won't get served. The best way to get served? Always wear shirts and shoes when entering that store.

His supporters have lost NOTHING. The Season 1 Redux is still going to be released - they are still going to get it for the subscriptions they put in, just like they would have for the Steam release. In fact, more should get it now - because originally free Steam keys were to go out to people whose total subscriptions on Subscribestar were equal to or greater than the price on Steam. However, their tiers are very explicit on Subscribestar -

Rare Pies and above are promised in the tier benefits to get access to any game releases. And we all know Uberpie was going to charge more than $7 for the Steam price.
