VN - Ren'Py - Tales from the Unending Void [v0.21 Extra] [Perverteer]

So reading all of the other reviews, I have to agree with the general consensus, the story is not that strong. The writing is also not that strong in certain areas. There were some good parts, and being a captain of your own ship is cool and everything, but there were a lot of logic flaws in a lot of the events that happen throughout. The story and writing are definitely maybe the weakest elements in the game, and if you were hoping for some crazy unique story sorry it's not here. However, that all being said, the meat and potatoes of this game are gonna be the girls. Your "crew", if you will, are definitely the best part of the game because you can pursue them all. You can also pursue girls outside of your crew so it is a true harem game. It even has a taboo harem so that's nice. The girls all look hot, if a bit samey at times (the standard hairstyles with black eyeshadow look). However, I happen to think the MC looks awful. He genuinely looks like some doofus high school kid who is barely into high school. He looks nothing like a captain of the ship. Also, a few of the characters have different types of paths, such as sub or loving, though I do wish there was more choice in the matter. To put your slave Jade on her sub path, you have to be a douche to her. Why? Why do I have to yell at her and treat her poorly for her to be on the sub path? It just makes no sense. Same with Vess. Why do I have to treat her like shit to make her submissive? The other girls you don't have a choice in how you pursue them either, it's just do you want to be in a relationship with this girl or not. This game could definitely do with some more choices. This is especially true if you interact with characters who have a dick. You're either gonna suck that dick or jerk them off, you have no choice. There is no option to say nah I'm not touching that dick ever. Overall, this game isn't bad, but it's not great either. It really needed better writing and story, and way more choice in how you deal with said story. To make this giant alien filled universe and be the captain of your own spaceship and have so little choice in what you want to do is frankly terrible design.

One of the best games on here, easily in my top 3. What's not to love? Dope visuals, engaging world-building, an unusually well-developed plot, characters that are easy to like and care for, and scenes for days. Oh and the dev consistently produces the goods on time without exploiting patrons. The only thing I don't like is the MC's hair which looks like pubes but I can live with it considering everything else is great.

Overall it feels unlike the other top games on this site. Free from a lot of the dumb cliches of other games that seem more and more derivative of each other these days, this game goes in a new direction, finding its bearings in films/TV like Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune, Firefly etc. Don't get me wrong, it's as much an adult VN as a space opera, but each chapter feels like it's doing something I haven't seen before in a VN, which is what I appreciate the most about this game.

I've been waiting to play this game for a long time and had high expectations because of its similarity to Mass Effect, but it was a big disappointment. The story was not interesting at all, it was just walls of text. Literally the dialogs in the game were endless, as if they were going on forever. On the other hand, it wasn't a branching story as the developer claimed, it was just a linear and boring visual novel. The renders start to look quite dated after a certain point. The developer who took the time to create such a sci-fi universe had a lot of successful things to look up to, and he ruined it with an incredibly bad journey story. The main character is very unlikeable and there is no other likable character After playing for a few hours and barely getting through the boring prologue, I gave up on the game.

A pretty cool sci-fi story , with great renders overall . Usually that kind of ever expanding harem does not know how to stop itself and use properly its cast (just see WVM as an example of that) ... and worse that kind of game usually rely on rehashing the same conversation and moral hangups .

This game did not feel like any of that ... you do have to wait for relationship to build up and start with characters , at various rate , but it does not feel dragged out and badly paced yet

One of my favorite VNs. Particularly the sisters are ridiculously beautiful and hot, making the incest totally believable. Music is also well above standard for these games. The only thing that bothered me is no option to end/disable a relationship you no longer want to be a part of.

EDIT: I just can't make it. This game is embarassingly boring. The epitome of mediocrity. Nothing stands out - shallow characters, forced drama, no humor, no mystery, no atmosphere, nothing.The only thing that is spot on is the name - Tales from Undending Void, empty, huge, meaningless and boring void.

This is a review of v0.17.

Tales is one of those rare AVNs which excels in every capacity. You want story? This is one of the best around. You want good characters? Tales has got a great diverse cast who are consistently seeing character development. Is the mc likable? Damn right; he's got a decent and unoffending model, and is confident and smart. You want visuals? While Tales doesn't quite match the highest modern standards of resolution, it still looks great, utilising fantastic art direction and beautifully designed models to make every shot look great. You want hot sex? You're in for a treat. You want music? Tales is one of the few AVNs to provide a strong soundscape to match each sequence.

Tales gives you a cinematic experience with its beautiful environmental renders, well-written cutaways to see what's happening with other characters, and generally strong dialogue and line-by-line writing.

One minor mistake is that the animations during sex scenes are often used for only one line of dialogue, and at most 3. The animations look good and we want to see them loop a few times, so don't immediately cut away to a static render, let us enjoy them while reading the well-written erotic description.

However there is one side-story which rubbed me so completely the wrong way that I almost brought my score down to 4 stars.

The world building in this is just a spectacular to behold. This is literally star wars in AVN style. The story is just as amazing as well. LIs are pretty likeable with their own unique personalities. This game and perverteer deserve more attention than any others out there.

So, I am a bit shocked at how high this game is rated. Like from an art style, it looks really great. From a story perspective, it is really bad. Like one of the first things is that you have a bad relationship with one of your sisters but when she gets to the academy you have a nice picture with her. It felt strange.

I dropped it after delivering some stuff to an alien planet. You get there and get toled the shipment is corrupted because you have a woman with you. To fix this you need to be punished and go to the pit. You say you will go and the rest of the team doesn't care. Like what? You don't ask what it is or what you will be doing. Like for all we knew it would have been a death match again a dragon.

But no it is a place underground with all women in them because the aliens made new religion that the surface is for men only. So, they need to stay and your punishment is that you need to fuck all the girls in the cave.

Yeah this was just stupid...

I had fun with this game. Lots of story and world building, lots of content. And choices for reasonable things to give you some influence on the story but not so much you drown or play a click simulator. This game really had the balance right for a VN.

Image quality en render quality is very good and it runs good without errors or annoying typo's or weird sentence buildup.

So yeah, would really recommend. Just look at the tags if these things are for you.

Art is ok, characters are unbelievable, save system is stupid (You cannot play newest version of the game without playing older version). Game is way too big for that amount of content. There is few pretty faces, but that's it about this game. Perhaps if it were more user friendly, it would get more stars

Looking for beautiful art, an interesting story and aliens? This is the right place to come. The incest part is covered good enough for me to ignore it, so I will give the whole 5 stars. Absolutely recommended!

This is an excellent game, and has easily become one of my favourite VN's that I've ever played. Perverteer is probably the best at writing hot – but believable – talk during sex. And also one of the best at doing buildup and hinting at future exciting sexual scenarios. No one else does setup and payoff with as much mastery, and is as consistent at never drifting into cockblock/frustration territory while doing it, as the dev/writer for TFTUV.

As for the overall VN, it tells an interesting and compelling story (with obvious influences from Mass Effect, Dune, and other space-based sci-fi, plus a unique mix of fantasy elements that I hope might be a hint at a future sword, sorcery, and sex type VN from this dev). The code/paths are well tested and straightforward to play, and I didn't run into any bugs apart from some annoying variable setting regarding achievements (not a problem unless you played early versions like I did, and tried to use those original saves). The music is top tier, and perfectly conveys intimacy during sex scenes, tension during action scenes, or a sense of the unknown as the reader is introduced to alien worlds and races. Characterization is well done, and each individual has a unique personality, with believable interactions, conflicts, and growth over the course of the story. The pacing is damn near perfect, and even though the dev can write some great prose, conversations never feel long-winded like in too many other VN's I've played. Also, kudos to the dev for giving the player a couple of interesting and non-rival (!) male friends to pal around with on the journey, which is a breath of fresh air to see in an adult VN.

There is really good use of kinks throughout the game as well (scenes with domination and watersports content are two that really stood out for me) to add extra spice to many of the encounters. The one problem I am finding in general with the game is that there are perhaps too many love interests, which can feel at times like it takes away from focusing on the much more compelling core characters. However, that isn't a big enough issue to not give this a five star rating, and recommend it without reservation to others to play.

Quite a few positives with this. I first played this when it was on chapter 7 then pretty much forgot about it to be honest. I decided to revisit it and glad that I did.

The visuals are very good, big leap ahead from Sisterly Lust.

The writing is solid. You can poke holes in some of the plot if you try but for me I didn't see anything glaring. It's pretty original and doesn't rely on too many V/N tropes which sometimes can't really be avoided depending on the story line.

The Dev does a pretty good job of not forcing things on you but allowing for choices.

While there is plenty of lewd stuff the Dev managed to sprinkle in some scenes that weren't just lewd but also sexy. Especially first time with Aven, Lilly and Nadya. The scenes for Aven and Lilly were realistic for a girl's first time sex and the dialog as well. Often when a girl in a V/N is a virgin the scene is created like she's a pro.

One downside is there were actually more scenes with side characters than needed which often come at the expense of scenes with main girls or more time to flesh out characters, MCs included.

Another is while I wouldn't call the MC a dumb character the handling of the girls wasn't smart. Perhaps for the sake of extra drama? In any case if he had handled things better there would have been less conflict between the girls.

Another positive is that for me there is multiple play through possibilities.

Mostly well-written VN with good graphics, music and animations with some notable plot/consistency deficiencies.

I strongly dislike incest and thus played without the patch - there are several notable plot issues in this case. By all indications, these would not be there if one were to apply the patch.
This is especially annoying as the author has created a character setup that can theoretically work well with and without incest - they simply do not take the required care to make it work properly in both cases.

Bought on steam. Overall an average experience.

Good:
-Various kinks
-Large cast with aliens etc.
-Visually satisfying
-Good soundtrack

Bad:
-Setting is one of the worst. Why would any wealthy parent would want to send all of her offspring to military academy, even if s/he hates their kids? Also the dad's favorite Lily gets to be sent also, like what? 5 minutes into the game and inconsistencies, logical fallacies everywhere. Or is it sorta like a conscription but for officers? (haha)
-So the main conflict and plot of the novel is the capture of MC's sister by the genetically engineered super-women stuck in medieval-tribal era during a routine mission. This triggers the journey of the crew. Group of 6 space-naval cadets with space-age weaponry gets owned by a couple of wonder women with swords, if the tone of this novel was humorous then it should have been perfect but it is sadly not. The game tries to be serious and dramatic which is not. Then a cadet charges at the super woman with a sword and gets slashed. Therefore MC has to abort saving his beloved sister and return to ship. Like what?! Is this a Nickelodeon teen show man? MC looks like a teen actor from 2000s tho, can't argue. Is there no radio relay for calling back up, can't an imperial navy afford a strike team to save one of its future officers?
-Intro sequence ends after MC learning the navy doesn't give a crap about the cadets, then MC halfassedly plans desertion with a navy fighter, he then coerces his friends to join, escapes death with a deus ex machina.
-After a disaster of an intro, the story continues with side-quests: following leads to MC's captive sister(some are quite interesting). New girls are introduced to the crew, we fuck and date them a little. Get some lore going with interesting sequences, but it doesn't save the intro that is unsalvagable.

In short: can't play for the story and characters, can play it for kinks and scenes.

Version 0.15 Extra (Some spoilers) (Played until EP 9.5)

In Short: Plenty of good and bad with this VN. It does a lot of things right and has great and sexy moments but the couple of complaints I have are big for me and drag this game out of playable territory. If you like fun harems with a legit story, then you'll probably love this game as most reviewers do. If you want something a bit deeper with the characters then I can't recommend it as I never got that feeling.

Longer thoughts: I was struggling to keep playing this and decided to put it down halfway through EP.9 For me, characters and MC's relationships with them are the driving force for any story. If I don't care about those around MC, I don't care for the story. In my opinion this game goes HARD on the story and characters you like fall into the background. It's done in reverse for me, I would have liked more time with the characters before we delved into this plot. This is a theme throughout unfortunately.

There are quite a few side missions in the early chapters (and up until I stopped) that really could have been cut or written differently. You get the info you want and it normally leads to sex with a tertiary character. This is great if you are a dev with a big enough team behind you, awesome bonus content right? Well It's just that you having those extra scenes takes away from time we could have been spending with the main cast. Forming a connection or "romance" as it is one of the tags.

I actually enjoyed EP6. (I think) where you get taken in the asteroid belt. It gave MC a fresh slate for a while to get to know people and their true feelings which was fun but then at the same time Celine is totally forgotten about and it killed the whole mood for me. (Celine was my early LI, you all lose your memory temporarily and realize you may love more than one LI, if you go harem path. There are some touching scenes here. But when you see Celine again for the first time, she looks at you and that's it. There's no realization like the other LI's get and Celine is your actual GF. No dialogue, no kiss ect...It's like dev forgot to add it).

Music was atmospherically decent, no big powerful vocals but it fit the theme well.

The premise and setting for this game are right up my street, so don't think I'm trying to bash the game for no reason please, I really do want to like it and the story does interest me, I just wish I was embarking on this adventure with people I care about. Story was a little predictable but may have been purposely done so we the player can figure it out no problem there.

I just wish we had more time with the LI's and I think it's so defeating for me because the dev has done the work, they are far from lazy. Its all here just allocated incorrectly in my opinion. These characters are just spunk rags and not people you can easily "fall for". Models are good, animations are good (they get much better as game goes on, bit robotic at first) and the story is good. It's just not for me.

There are a lot of things I really like about this game, and I very much wished it dealt better with some of the problems I'm about to describe, but unfortunately, they're present. I won't waste much time talking about the things the game does right, most of the reviews here already do that. If you're only going to read this one, just know it's a good game, and I'm deliberately only commenting on things that could be improved.

The game is about a young man who's had his easygoing life completely uprooted when a big prophecy starts to mess with everyone he knows. It's a little overdone, but the sci-fi spin on it freshens things up a bit. From there, the game turns into a bit of a coming of age story as he's forced to step up as leader of his ragtag bunch.

There are some problems with the plot structure, where the very relaxed flow of the story betrays the very real urgency the plot puts on finding the missing sister and vice versa, but for the first half a dozen chapters or so, this isn't that big of a problem. Relationships develop nicely and the mix of social events with plot beats are done pretty well. But things start getting a little hazy further in.

As relationships start all culminating into romances the game runs into the all too common problem of spreading itself too thin. Personal scenes, sexual or otherwise need to be compressed down so as to not have them ruin the pre-estabilished pacing. There's something perhaps intentional about this, as it does put the player in the shoes of the MC, who's also having his fair share of problems juggling all his relationships, which leads us to another problem.

The MC is baaad about keeping things running smoothly. This once again bears some intentionality, I think. The character developments mirror the story in the sense that the MC is learning as he goes, but that doesn't mean it all makes sense. His criteria for who to keep in the dark about his poligamous streak is baffingly random.

I understand the need to ease people he's already in a relationship with slowly, so as to not fuck everything, but when he continues to develop romances with no preclaimer, that's just stupid. The conflicts that arrive from it are, as a result, perceived as shallow.

Next is a problem I wouldn't usually comment on because porn is just porn, who cares, but the sheer ubiquity of sex scenes means it bears mentioning: For a game with such a wide variety of partners and circumstences, the sex is incredibly dull. You're presented with the same sex scene with different backgrounds time and time again. To the devs credit, an attempt to change this does seem to be in the plans, with Ziv topping, pregnant Aven and Celine anal all showing up in the most recent chapters.

My last complaint is that the characters, though they all feel real and grounded in the context of the story, seem to only exist when the MC is around. They all have their own relationships, but almost all of it happens offscreen. Poor Kit seems to live in a pocket dimension for 95% of the game. Characters that should, by all means, constantly be on scenes together without the MC are just implied to have hung out at some point between the last personal scene and the current one, if at all. Raene and Ziv seemingly stop interacting at all, which is strange, Eva and Lilly just talk about hanging out but are seldom seen actually doing it, even Aven and Nadya only have a relationship when the cutscenes are on. Celine and Lilly, alleged best friends only have scenes together when they're fighting about the MC.

Half of this is the way the game is structured. We very rarely see things that are happening far away from the MC, but there doesn't seem to be any particular reason as to why that is. I think the game would be greately improved if we saw any of the characters pass the Bechdel test once or twice.

Magnificent game it has to be said
You go into space with a bunch of women some you are related to and you travel to different places and have sex with the people there, some of which you bring with you.

Its kind of reminiscent of mass effect if instead of talking and shooting you are talking and fucking. REVOLUTIONARY STUFF. Now, the incest is slow burn for majority of game there isnt even sexual innuendos or "omg brother i can see you naked" moments, nada. Only after a certain event that comes quite a long time in does incestual things get going. And it just works its great. Maybe it is a bit disappointing that the time spent on the repression of urges due to the taboo is so short but its fine as is.

You also get to have sex with sexy aliens every once in a while, you even get to keep a little alien sex slave if you so choose (YES ofc) or you can be a nice person and let her be your friend or some gay shit. Anyways slavery is a good thing.

In terms of issues, I guess one could mention that it is incredibly linear harem game. You dont pick between person A or B ever. You pick between sex with B or no sex with B and why would you ever pick no sex so the option isnt really an option.

Also all women are likable from the get go, there is very little character growth other than in their willingness to slobber on your knob. Breaking in a character is fun and in perveteers last game you had the black hair girl for example in that role. In the last game you also had diffrent paths for characters like SUB or love paths that could change the story entirely depending on which you choose. But I guess thats replaced by the SLAVE/LOVE paths but it isnt your sister so it doesnt feel the same.

Story is some weird star wars fan fic you are luke skywalker but instead of virgin you get to fuck Leia. Not really but close enough. Its a good game one of the best for shizzle

A genuinely interesting story, really good adult content and believable characters. Best game on here. The biggest criticism would be the title. This never attracted my attention because I assumed it was ESL. Real fun to play.
