I don't see them being different. You could easily put story encounters inside adventure mode without anybody noticing.
For example, there's a whole scenario with Kylira and Hiro meeting at inn in story mode. What if there was a certain new inn in adventure, in second location for example, where you could meet Kylira if previously you suggested them to be a healer (currently this option does nothing)? You would get this interaction as if you're both travel independently in plot. Same with finding Kylira and Brigand getting naughty.
Or imagine meeting the Catgirl from story mode at the final location in adventure. She would tell you about prophecy right before you meet Demon King, which makes sense. She would also be more aggressive with hitting on you, which also makes sense as it's final location.
Imagine bandit village and sperm bank are locations on the second and third locations of adventure. It's even more interesting this way, if you think about it. There is no problem with fitting them at all.

Adventure as I believe you have more freedom in your build and such. Also, if you are new you should rock adventure first.

Definitely Adventure mode, Story mode feels like a bad end simulator, Imo story mode should work like Adventure mode and just get merged and be a random gen layout.

Yeah, adventure is the main game, it has basically 98% of the content inside the game.
Are you trying to launch through jar file or through executable? I had the same problem with .jar, and needed the executable(which comes with the windows/linux/mac version).
If you want latest version, you need to download windows/linux/mac version(if you don't already have it) and then download latest .jar file(java version) and change .jar in folder to the new one.

Story mode has less scenes, but they're better (in my opinion).
Also Majalis if you see this, please use the pillory art for some scene with girl with dicks. The art is too good, but sex with random guys who are not even femboys is a no go for me.

Some fun new stuff this time - Kylira and Trudy can now both get egged by Selkie the goblin, and as a result, can end up pregnant in much the same way Hiro can (from werewolves, centaurs, and harpies - not nagas, just yet). There's related scenes for interacting with them and a birthing scene as well!
We've also animated Hiro's facial art, so Hiro can now catch cumshots on the face - we haven't added it in battle yet, but it'll eventually be used for battle handjobs. As it is, Hiro smiling up at the camera with something on their face is an encounter-only thing.
Another thing that's pretty cool is we've got a nice little suite of sounds made for the Wasp which are nice and satisfying, so check it out!

Companions (Trudy and Kylira) can now get goblin pregnant!
Need to be seeded by a female goblin, then by one of the eligible
Can talk to them while pregnant, and also see a birthing scene when it comes time for it

Only can get preggo by other monsters atm, a select few. Not sure why male goblin can't impregnate you, doesn't make much sense there. Goblin is lacking in semen I guess heh.
seems like the new facial animation - although it has many variants during encounters - can only be unlocked on your pervert menu if you manage to find the variant with hiro's makeup being smudged
the gloryhole at monsters pub "jack it onto your face" and the ghost's "ectoplasm facial" choices triggers a clean makeup variant so these won't unlock the scene
