You can enjoy a game as if it were a movie, as a simple viewer and not identify yourself with the character you are playing as. It´s OK. But videogames have a roleplay component that you are missing and most people don´t.
Obviously, players know that they are not Cristiano Ronaldo when you play FIFA, or Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, or a soldier in the WWII in Call of Duty. But at some level, people play to identify themselves with the character that are playing as (that's the definition of roleplaying) and not only making the mechanical acts with the mouse or the gamepad and seeing the action in the screen as viewers. And obviously, most people like to be the hero of the game: the one that scores the goal to win the match, kills the monster or saves the day in the battle. Again, it´s not true, obviously, and people know that it´s not true, but for a minute the player enjoy being the hero in the fiction.
It´s the same with erotic or porn games: nobody wants to play the loser that don´t get the romantic interest or is cheated, but the young and attractive "alpha" character that seduces the romantic interests, except some people that, for some reason, have the fetish of play as that loser. That's why NTR in any form, generates rejection in most of the people.
I think it´s a basic concept, but it seems that a lot of devs don´t understand it, since even in games that are not even about NTR, masochism or domination, create MCs that are not attractive to play as. For example, but not only, "beta" males that have to appeal to lame tricks to see a boob, like spying, blackmailing, drugs or even hypnotism and magic. Or passive male characters that always follow the lead of female characters and are not able to take the initiative. Or female characters that maybe have a great 3D model but have the personality of unattractive, rude bitches, or behave like cliché, rude men. I´m not talking about this game, since I haven´t played it yet. I´m talking in general.
I assume it´s because most of the devs maybe know how to create a 3D renders, but are totally amateur writers that don´t know the basics of creative writing for videogames.
