How far into the game do you need to get to see an animated h-scene? And how many h-scenes are there? I tried the demo on DL-site a bit and didn't see any h-content except for one still image where some boobs appeared.

Almost everything on DLsite is rated above 4, you have to be comically incompetent to have your game rated below 4. For some reason Japanese users are very, very generous and rate pretty much everything 5/5. From my experience the number of sold copies doesn't really convey much information about the quality of a game and there are tons of terrible games with great sales (Moe Workshop's games for example). Eventually you begin to understand that despite being comically inflated, the scores on DLsite aren't meaningless and work roughly like this:
below 4 - only good for laughs
4 - 4.5 - bad
4.5 - 4.6 - average
4.6 - 4.8 - good
above 4.8 - awesome
According to me at least lol. I am basing all of this on my experience only. There are also some additional nuances, for example old games are rated more harshly then newer ones.

Female protagonist and corruption tags but how does this work? Besides the vampire survivors gameplay is there a town to interact with people or something? Is it all just what happens if you lose and get raped? How does the sex work in this game?
Even then... I wouldn't trust their scores. I think a lot of it has to or had to do with their rebate policy. When you purchase a game (without coupon or using points) you get points back (money) when you rate the game (this expires pretty quickly if you don't), so I imagine a lot of users just rate without actually thinking of the input they put.
Number of sales is pretty much the only "good" measure; even then there are sometimes gems that sell poorly or trash games that sell well. Pricing and initial advertising can impact sales pretty thoroughly (i.e. Memeris RPG was super mid and a scene collector but sold well beyond it's means due to advertising).

This is probably because under Japanese defamation law, you can be found guilty of defamation even if what you said is true or just an opinion, unless the judge decides that what you said was in the interest of the public good. The law reflects the culture. That's why for example you'll never see Hideo Kojima negatively review a movie - at worst he'll say something neutral about it, which means he absolutely hated it. Obviously reviews on an online platform are unlikely to get you in legal trouble, but I think the Japanese as a people have largely internalized the idea that being negative about creative works is illegal and immoral.

This is going to be one of those games on here where I download it for the actual gameplay with the sexual context just being an aside to the actually tempting content.

Fairly simple, there is a corruption meter that triggers the corruption event when it reaches 50.
There are events on the map that can contain options that increase your corruption.
After your character is corrupted further events can have a corrupted version.
Regarding h-scenes those are found when you lose, during events and when you complete the zone.
Afaik there are no character specific events and once you unlock a scene you can view it in the gallery with any of the other characters.
Events are static images, lose/win events are very simplistic animations.
