uf. g-senjou no maou... i still know the original name without looking :p (yaaay!). anway, the game was brutaaaaally tedious. i always slept away when playing it. storywhise it's actually pretty decent but it takes forever to get forward. the cgs however are one of the best you can get. but don't expect a lot of porn scenes.

personally i like yume miru kusuri a lot more.

Very very good game that reveals more of the story the more routes you play, not much sex but non the less a fantastic dark VN.

Sharin no Kuni is a thousand times better, basically the author got scared shitless and invented that shitty "plot twist" aka asspull to avoid having to write an original ending rather than the stupid one we got.

twist" which it was not. So I was pleasant surprised. Also I liked the humor and cried my heart out at the end of the story. But yeah, it could have been much shorter, the 'alternative paths' are weak and you shouldn't look into it for erotic contest.

I've also played Sharin no Kuni and yes, the story and the twist in Sharin no Kuni is much better (executed). But I like the characters in Devil on G String just more, so I can't really decide which one the better VN is.

However, when it comes to great story-VNs I still prefer the GRISAIA series, MUV-LUV Alternative and CLANNAD. I still rank them as the "best ever" in my personal ranking.

The main route is the only one worth playing, others are like parallel universe and cut a bit short

Excellent story and good ending, I wont compare to others highly rated story focused VN because of different focus

I hated it with passion because it's obvious the author got scared and changed the story to make it vanilla, the true ending had the makings of a great tragedy but it had to end with a bittersweet shitty tone by introducing a convenient evil guy, that ending might fit another novel but its a great drop of quality in this one.
I stopped caring for the characters as soon as the twist happened it was a complete waste of time, normally I can guess the quality of a novel by playing 3/4 hours but even I couldn't expect such a masterpiece to go down the drain so late in the story.

rip-off which one has already seen coming miles away. It was just too obvious. So I was happy with the way it actually turned out, but maybe that's just me.
I get your point, it is important to surprise the reader sometimes but in this case the "hints" were too obvious so I think the author wasn't trying to hide the mastermind, everyone though the climax was going to be how to deal with the discovery not WHO is the bad guy itself.
I had high hopes about how will the author solve that situation, what kind of ending he was going to give us etc etc... but it ended with the biggest asspull in all history. The author even tried to defend himself saying that the other routes were parallel universes where the bad guy was who we though at the beginning and similar crap to avoid criticism.

Well, I agree that the twist of "Sharin no Kuni" was much better: I never saw it coming but it was well hinted, made real sense and fitted nicely into the story. In hindsight a lot of scenes worked with an excellent double-meaning, like the scene at the beginning in the classroom with the female underwear in his suitcase: At first it was just hilarious comedy but made actually real sense after you experienced the twist.

Is this the steam version or the fan translation? I've been meaning to give this one another try, but, if I remember, the steam version (that I found before) lacked the voices or something. So, if this one is the steam version with voices, that would be awesome.

IKR, I was about to put this in my top 3 favorite list of VN until the fucking twist happened, oh well I still recommend it.

I remember reading this a long time ago. Because of the art and the way Maou is always shown in the shadows in the first 75% of the game, I thought that Maou was actually the main character moonlighting as an asshole. It kind'a ruined the story for me because I spent half the time trying to figure out his timeline and how he was sneaking around. I swear Maou looked like the main character, and I think it was sloppy of the art team to have them look so similar. Otherwise, it was pretty decent.

Looks like I gave it a 8/10 on VNDB after I read it, which is a pretty high score for me.

there... was... just... so... much... filler.
I have found over the years that this depends on the reader. For example, I can't stand Clannad. 70% of it is basically Seinfield episodes wedged in between actual story. Little bits that don't have any affect on anything. I read the entire thing up until a heroine dies in the afterstory, then I'm like "God dammit, fuck this" because it was obvious the story wasn't going to end anytime soon if they're still shoving climaxes into it. Dropped after 50+ hours invested. Never went back.

I felt the same about MUV-LUV Alternative. For example, at the end, when the girl is pinned against the ship by the alien, it is literally 45 minutes of her just sitting there talking and soapboxing when she should have died 44 1/2 minutes earlier. Or something, anything should have happened before 44 1/2 minutes had passed.

And both of those stories, everyone loves and they don't notice how much filler has been put into them.
