I remember seeing a game made in the Penp'y with decent graphics and somewhat general harem/family story. [...] Dev could not take it and pulled the plug early. I was saddened to see that someone who is passionate and willing to put his money and effort, bullied to let go.

Man, that's indeed sad. I hope that the dev of that game found some other cool endeavor to release his creativity into.

I have a ton of ideas for mechanics that I'd want to implement, but I'm focusing on delivering content for v0.02 right now. That, and dealing with day-to-day IRL bullshit which slows the development down. Nevertheless, I'm moving forward.
