Hello F95 community!

I hope this post finds you all well. I wanted to initiate a discussion about the future of adult game development because especially on Steam I see everyday new developers publish games tagged "sexual content". Do you think in the future the big studios will enter too?

Probably not. Especially not in the West, where showing half an inch of cleavage on your female characters in a R25 in a game is enough to be blacklisted and cancelled. There's a huge stigma attached to h-games. Even more so than hyper violent games. Right now the "industry" is limited to small time hobbyists doing what they can with what they have.

Honestly, I kind of wish it stays that way. If adult gaming goes even slightly towards the mainstream, just imagine the grifting that's going to take place. Imagine an army of Jack Thompsons and Anita Sarkesyans trying to score points in various walks of life by demonizing anything and everything related to this medium. And since porn doesn't have any good will in the public's eye, they're more likely to actually succeed here.

I feel like they already do this secretly
Probably true.

The big studios are actively moving away from anything sexual in new games.

Look what Sony did to Aloy in Horizon Forbidden West or how Blizzard removed sexualized poses in Overwatch.

I think it's likely, especially if they determine this to be profitable.
But they will probably create knock-off studios to test the waters first so that it doesn't affect their brand name if shit hits the fan.:coffee:
I mean, we even had a porny mmorpg in the past where you could completely undress even lolis, and this mmorpg was around waaay before the rise of our little porn-game market here. :ROFLMAO::coffee:

For some insane reason alot of people don't even want Sex in Media. Like what's wrong with a little bit of French Behavior Sometime.

And us here?
On Steam there is officially no possibility for me (born in Germany) to start a "Midnight Ride".
So I'll wait until that is possible again and then look into the future.

I've gone on about this in other threads on the same topic before but to summarize:
1. Most people don't dedicate a whole lot of time to porn. Average porn site visit duration is less than 10 minutes.
2. Games are a time-consuming hobby. Putting porn at the center of it means you're appealing to a small minority of people who dedicate hours of their time to porn.
3. AAA games are expensive to make. You need a million sales just to break even.

The current ecosystem with porn games is pretty much the ideal: indie developers catering to niche fetishes that people typically only develop as a result of avid porn consumption. This is for the same list of reasons most "normal" porn sites are dominated by 10 minute clips rather than long-form movies.

We might get more games throwing in gratuitous sex scenes, like Netflix does, but I can't imagine a major company deciding to crush the competition in the HypnoMILF genre or something.

Even looking at current Generation X or the new people being born I don't think they are inherently as sexually mature as people before them at that age.
When I was 16 half of our class had already had sex ( Maybe because of the brothels in our city ) but there was always this emphasis on having it between us.
Nowadays most 16 year olds look like little kids and usually aren't dedicating Thier time to anything other than studies Like it's not that long I remember 15 year olds in my class including myself had full beards and were shaving and shit.
Maybe this is a smart business move not to get into adult side of entertainment because the generation that's gonna come won't be interested in it anymore.

This is just a observation throughout the years. Again Maybe

"We might" nothing at all.

HBO is throwing nudity in its creations since the 80's, recently going as far as accepting Games of Throne as being a softporn series. Yet the best we still get from AAA studios is Leisure Suit Larry, and Mass Effect or The Witcher mild sexual romances. When you see that series like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls have models that have more skin covered when nudes that when clothed, what do you expect for games that rely on a smaller fan base, or don't have a fan base because totally new ?

As long as AAA studios will be convinced that their core target is teenagers, they'll stay as far as possible to nudity and sexuality.

In France we are not different than any other country in the West regarding pornography. It's just that we don't see the harm in having children seeing nude actors on sreen in family movies, i think they are even more open than us about that in german and nordic eurpean countries. But we wouldn't allow pornographic bodies with synthetic tits and big dongs.

The only thing is that America seems to have a fetish about violence and don't mind letting children watching movies susceptible to create trauma, while being strict on showing female skin which seems weird 'cause no child will be traumatized from seeing a man penis and girl tits, specially if they are not fake.

The only thing that needs to happen for AAA H games is for enough people to bite the bullet buying adult games. Right now most H gamers are here and you think most of people here are paying? When theres sales the game will get made. That said it probably wont happen at least this decade no.

No AAA studio will ever dip their foot into an adult game. Modern AAA games insanely expensive, and the typical adult game is pretty niche. Even if somehow a AAA adult game does make a profit (it wouldn't) it would still be a waste of resources because any fanbase you grow would pale in comparison to if the publisher spent that money on a non adult game. It's the same reason you don't see a studio like EA try out grand strategy genre. There just Isn't the demand. There are other reasons, but I feel like you get my point.

Hmm... Those "family movies" are usually rated 12+ if there's more than a furtive scene. But it's true that France is relatively permissive in that matter, and most erotic movies are just rated 16+.
Ah, the good old 80's/90's Saturday nights and their mandatory erotic movies on M6 (a French TV channel) around 11PM.

Hmm... Not really true nowadays for the girls, never been for the guys ; both Ron Jeremy and Rocco Siffredi stared in french porn movies.
