RPGM - The Last Sovereign [v0.77.2] [Sierra Lee]

This is an incredibly well made game. The story is compelling and could stand on its own without the porn. The characters are (mostly) very well written, and every stage of the game leaves me wanting more, waiting for more.

Editing this review to add: The story gets only more and more compelling as it goes on. I haven't finished it on account of the game being VERY LONG. But every one of my 100 hours, aside from maybe some of the open world sections, has been absolutely riveting. Compelling. Keeps me coming back for more no matter how long it goes.
I. Love. This. Story.

The Last Sovereign is easily my favorite adult game ever, though not primarily for its actual adult content. Before playing TLS I always considered RPGM an engine for people too lazy to use something better like Unity or Ren’py. Part of this is because I believe traditional JRPGs to be an abysmal format for a game as grinding is simply worthless padding and the moves often cost so little mp and are so poorly balanced you just roll through the game spamming the same thing unless you die to bad RNG. TLS solves this by removing grinding, often giving you unorthodox prebuilt parties, and not presenting combat sections that overstay their welcome.

In terms of strategic resource management, the game presents a great number of potential investments which ultimately present no perfect solution. This adds to replayability and allows the way the investments interact with one another shows the dev’s commitment to constructing an internally consistent world.

However, as the game progresses and your character’s ambitions grow in scale so does the complexity of scenarios. Ultimately playing blind will afford you outcomes that can prove unsatisfactory to some and I have ended up using a guide while replaying. Even early on there is one choice in particular that can result in the loss of the only optional party member and it simply isn’t well signposted. I addressed this and other failings during voluntary replays that explored various opposed choices and as a min maxer/perfectionist type player I largely enjoyed it. You may not be a perfectionist type player which means you can ignore this warning. But if you’re like me and are annoyed by suboptimal outcomes you may wish to do a quick blind playthrough followed by a more thorough somewhat planned out one as you get deeper into the game as it quickly becomes much more complicated.

The writing is the facet of the game that first and foremost keeps me invested though. The characters and plot begin simply but with such obvious potential I was immediately invested. Characters aren’t all given overly detailed tragic backstories to endear them to you, they’re almost all endearing and memorable for reasons beyond simple emotional manipulation. Your characters ambitions are sometimes fulfilled, sometimes thwarted, and the unpredictability of this lends a great deal of tension to most events. There’s a natural progression where you start doing things like hunting down petty bandits and end up delving deeper and deeper into the magical foundation of the reality that displays a consideration of what a game needs to be to justify an average playtime of more than 50 hours so far.

The music isn’t appreciated by audiophiles from what I have read but for someone who just enjoys most music that isn’t too ambient I can say there are several tracks that I really love. I will listen to them independently and one that I whistle as much as any other song.

The only aspect of the game that I have come to appreciate less since I first played is the actual porn itself.

I enjoyed that aspect immensely, at least initially, simply because of my investment in the characters. The plot and character writing constructed a narrative and world so authentic that I was able to enjoy almost every scene even though I had to look past the fact that almost invariably revolves around situations that were simply too vanilla for me.

As I returned to the game after every update rather than taking it in all at once I found the investment in the characters no longer as strong as it had been during those weeks I had spent devoting hours every day to the game and was no longer able to look past my issues with the scenes. The way Sierra writes scenes is rather terse for someone who lacks a particularly powerful imagination. If your desires are limited to fucking and working together with a large number of beautiful, self-actualized women who love one another, and all love you, then you can ignore the next paragraph wherein I detail how the content in the smut doesn’t quite match up to my fetishes.

The inclusion of futa is extremely limited and the yuri almost invariably revolves around oral/fingering which isn’t for me. There are a few instances that might qualify as netori but the guy isn’t inadequate so much as evil so not really playing into that fetish. The closest to ntr is optionally your succubi using their bodies in extremely desperate circumstances for the greater good. There’s a slightly androgynous dude who offers himself to the mc who would be super cute, and an immense asset to the harem, if he were feminized and added in but he’s shot down by the mc whose straight so the feminization angle is never even considered. Still my experience of the game was without art so the inclusion of that might have made the actual porn aspect of the game have more staying power, I really can’t say. There’s also simply a considerable amount of titfucking which again, isn’t for me.

The fact a game this vanilla manages to be my favorite says it all when I’ve played so many games that better pander to my kinks but don’t actually amount to great games.

FIrst off, you can't fap to this. Unless you get off to text like how some people in the past do.

RPG Elements are just generic which is sad, the game really shines through its story. Mob fights to level never convey a story, its just I kill you SO I GET STRONGER. Some fights are RNG based, if the mobs don't use a certain attack pattern in the first few turns prepare to restart, look at the wiki for hints. I spent hours restarting for these fights. But you know whaT, i did them anyway even if they are optional? I wanna farm those affection points and levels yo lol.

Story- Meh seems generic in the first few minutes. Oh oh hoh not generic. Oh you thought you're going to play as generic bang everything young protag? No no no, you play wholesome old man with more sexual control than young horny teenagers. And that's makes it good, one sympathizes with the parties objectives and really feels immersed in its world instead of just fuck and burn the world around you.

I have some waifus I would like to declare. Yarra. Aka.Qum Dumpe! Ogs from the start. But yarra has corrupted me and halflings are not bad too

Its more like a kingdom builder game, its cool.

Music, sometimes when I sleep I hear the combat sounds and I wake up from my nightmare. man f*ck this game, the music is stuck in my head.

Summary: good f*cking game, with good F*cking

Brilliant game. I honestly sometimes wish this wasn’t a porn game, so I could be fully open about loving this game.

The sex scenes are great, with all of the art looking good (apart from a couple near the start of the game that look like they were drawn with crayons, but those are ones you don’t really go back to).

Story is amazing, with better writing than most movies. The world feels real and lived in, and never ignores the “boring” parts that most fiction forgets about like army logistics.

Despite the large harem - 24 members in all - none of them feel like they’re in the story for the sake of having another woman to fuck. All of them have something to offer both the story and the player. The MC is a great departure from the kind of dumb protagonist who’s only goal in life is to fuck things as much as possible, and is very intelligent, and is prepared to play the long game to achieve his goals.

My only complaints are that the pacing slows too much in a couple of parts in my opinion, and that the combat is kind of repetitive. All in all, an amazing game.

This is not for you.

Where this game ABSOLUTELY SHINES is in character development, world building, intricacies, and a well developed, incredibly intelligent story that commands respect.

The world and scope of the story are massive. Characters actually have PERSONALITIES and develop in a truely meaningful way. There is a feeling of desperation and urgency when the story calls for it. Emotional scenes are actually moving.

This game is a tour de force of mature story telling, and not just comedy, sex, and violence.

I have over 50 hours of gameplay in, and I last played 0.43, so there is a lot more I haven't seen yet, and more yet to come.

Despite being in its 4th year, Sierra Lee offers monthly updates, and things continue to grow and develop at an impressive rate, with no sign of burnout (though she does focus on other projects as well, likely to keep her mind fresh).

There is no game that, in size, length, scope, and emotion, that I have found yet, that is its equal. This is quite obviously a labor of love, and a story that means a great deal to her.

On an (unconfirmed) personal note?
Years ago, I had messaged Sierra Lee (through another forum) with a suggestion. As the succubus Q'um is the most sexual characterof the game, I had recommended a "scene" with her, that didn't have sex. Just the MC encouraging her to sit with him and talk. Something that would be a little confusing to her, at first, but show her that she was loved for more than just physical company.
There is a scene where just that happens... the only scene in the typical sex scene format (that I know of) where Simon just sits and talks with one of the girls.
I do not know if Sierra liked my idea, or if it was something she always planned, but it's a very touching scene, and I'd like to think I helped influence it.

Sex scenes read like an erotic novel targeted at middle aged women but the art is pretty good.

Overall game is great, interesting overarching storyline and well fleshed out characters. It takes a while before the core game really begins but after that it's hard to stop while playing.

Best story in an adult game hands down, better than a lot of general audience games. I''ve played 150 hours and it's not even done.
That said, walkthrough is a big help unless you're a masochist, and it has so much actual gameplay and story that it's kinda hard to play one handed.

The story in this game is better than most triple-A games, with a lot of choices that have consequences which makes it a great RP game in general.

The only thing I could wish for would be more effort into the actual sex scenes, either drawn or animated, since there isn't exactly a lot of visualization besides the pixel-art (which is superbly done however). It seems that half of the MC sexual encounters have a drawn sketch, while the other half doesn't.

this game did something incredible i've lost my love for games and anime manga etc.... yet when i played this i was so into the game and loved it to the point that i would say that this is my most favorite game ever the worldbuilding is great the story is great the characters are great believable and memorable, the sex scene is so well into the story and plot and weirdly enough i find the text based scene leave the rest to imagination which to some is good others bad yet after playing the game i didn't care i wanted more about the mystery more about what is going on rather than anything else so for anyone thinking about this game i absolutely recommend it , it is a must play in my book

This game is pretty great. The story is great and is what drives the game forwards! The sex scenes that have art that are currently in the game are alright to good, however, the scene viewer is only unlocked around either 10 or 20 hours into the game, so it can take time to see some scenes. Regardless, come for the porn, stay for the story.

The game is well made, you can see the effort in it. Rather than be just one more rpgmaker random game with no effort in this mechanics the creator here really try to make this game looks polished. I find the combat fun, rather than infinite random battles you have a limited amount of battles, make the game look more significant.
my criticism is with the sex scenes the personality of the main character, while I really like the smart nature of the main character, his mannerism gets boring after sometime, without change, and a lot of sex scene really tries descriptively shows that MC is dominating the woman ... but without actions ... something supposedly psychological and subjective, and even too subtle, getting really tedious (for me, to make it clear) and demonstrating the creator's fetishes clearly.
So i get focused in the story rather than any sexual scene in the game.

I adore this game. It has depth of gameplay and plot, it has interesting characters, it has sex, it even has art for the sex scenes these days. It's a testament to what a game developer with a vision, commitment, and passion for a project can achieve. You can very easily sink dozens of hours into this game - not because it is grinding you to the bone but because it has so much to offer as you embark on a truly epic journey to conquer the world alongside characters that you not only start to care about but that actually have a sound (and thus slow-burning) plan to that end. It combines standard RPG Maker combat with resource and empire management that you mostly approach as in a CYOA game.

Thing is (and that is why I'm only rating it 4 out of 5, despite my resounding recommendation): it's a game that I personally feel doesn't get the sex scenes quite right. I absolutely 100% want to like them as much as I love the rest of the game and I do love the fact that they fit right into the world, the game, and the plot. But something about them (the tone? the level of detail? the length?) just doesn't seem right to me. I find them erotic but not as much as they should be.

I'm sure it's just as matter of taste. If anything, perhaps it's an even bigger recommendation because this game is definitely one where you can "come for the sex, stay for everything else".

Fantastic worldbuilding, amazing characters, epic plot, and enough variable decisions to make your playthrough feel unique (and incentivize multiple runs). The RPG elements are well balanced, and the fact that there are limited enemies (not endless as in most rpgs) makes each fight feel both less like a time-sink/grind and more rewarding (need that sweet sweet EXP!).

After over a year of playing, it's time to rewrite my review today (Aug 7th, 2021). This is the best game on this website, and perhaps the best RPG game I've ever played. This game is as good as any Final Fantasy, Octopath, etc. The story is really where this game shines; the world is quite developed, with geography, interpersonal relationships, and especially politics taking a central role. If you're here to fap, feel free to try a different game; this is not a porn game, it's an RPG with porn.

Among RPG games, TLS is brutal in the best way possible. Rather than making the game hard by having endless amount of grinding required to beat the next boss (looking at you FF4 remake, the other RPG I'm currently playing), TLS takes a relatively novel approach: finite enemy count. You should fight every enemy to stay leveled, and you will always only barely be able to win. While the combat isn't particularly deep, it takes the old-school JRPG combat formula and pushes it as far as RPGM can possibly go.

Do yourself a favor and play this game.

Well balanced combat, good history progression and well defined chars. I miss a sex interacrion for Cumdumpe to enjoy her anytime... but is just my horniness thinkin.

A "must have" IMO.

Excellently written, good pacing, consistently updated despite working on a myriad of other projects. One of the best examples that you don't need to turn your brain off to be titillating and that if you introduced sexual games into a more mainstream audience, a lot of them would be like this. Great game.

It was a game with no CG but unknowingly I first played this game nearly 3 years ago and have been a fan of the complexity of the storyline. It has been one of my 2 favorites ( Being a dik) although it had no pictures(until recently added) it was still far superior in every other aspect.
PROS:-- It has a bit of everything from fights to management to religion to puzzles. The feeling of this game can't be described in words. Although it is a very hard game to play as minor choices may have a very large impact on the games. Believe me a seriously big impact. It has more than 40 hours of gameplay.

CONS :--If you are looking to this game for only fapping then it's not for you.(unless you can fap to text-based sex scenes with little to no animations.)
You need to rely on a wiki page or use cheat( via save editor) for the best outcome.

On a side note, all the ruckus is worth the story.

This is a weird game. The story is one of the best I've ever read. It's unique as all get out and the characters are actually extremely compelling. The main character is one of my favorite main characters in any RPG and the side characters are all wonderfully diverse and interesting.

It takes the idea of a world driven by sex magic very seriously. That doesn't sound like it could work, but for the most part the world is entirely coherent and interesting beyond pretty much every RPG I've ever played. I mean it when I say that this game's world compares in scope and detail to something like the Witcher. I know that sounds weird, but the world built here is as compelling as some of the best in gaming including planescape torment. I know, that is high praise, but I really mean it.

But is the game perfect? Well it is an rpg maker game, but overall it's a pretty good one. If you can stand the rpg maker mechanics in other games this one is more than playable.

Another problem is that I don't really care about the sex scenes. They are well done, but honestly I just want to get more story. They are far apart often and this game is really not a game where you can get your nut. Unless the sex is between major characters I often don't even read it and I usually skim what is there.

It can also be pretty hard to see everything without a guide. But the guide online is very well done if you want to use it.

There are also a few difficulty spikes, but it isn't that bad.

Overall a fantastic game. Really, really good. The world building and the mechanics of building your empire are great.

TLR: The game is great. Maybe not so good for jacking off though. too slow on that front. But it's well worth playing. Also support the Dev please. They have games on steam. Buy them.
