Yeah, patreon is notorious for having super strict policies on what content you can and can't put into a game. It's something like, no rape, no mind control, no animals, etc (though it's been a hot minute since I checked the exact t&c) which is why so many games are getting vanilla lately.
That's why summertime saga turned everyone into step siblings and step mothers, karryns prison jumped ship from patreon when they added the werewolf baddie, and games like claire quest is cut up into different versions based on what site you support the dev's from. There's a tonne more but those are from the top of my head.
Subscribestar has no issues, maybe they're not USA based perhaps? Whatever the case, dev's have more freedom to post whatever.
I think steam is also the same as patreon (more or less) so you'll see more people using actual adult game sites like dls (or whatever that Japanese site is called).
