I believe the developers have already stated that your choices will start to matter more after chapter 3. There is already evidence of this in-game via stats. The game will be multi-path oriented as there will be at least two routes to follow. A family route and a childhood friend route. We just haven't gotten to the branching point yet.
Thats the thing, the branching point is not going to be a single, specific moment in the game were you will define if you are going to get the outcome A or B.
It will be the sum of several points in the game, what will shape what the ending will look like.
You can take a decision, and not see a difference until its too late.
For example, kissing Ronnie after getting out of Vanzilla or not, it looks like a simple way to show a cute scene and get love points with character A or character B, something simple...
Well, it isn't, the choice is saved, and characters would bring that up later when you dont expect it (
like women irl lmfao)
This one is a small example that wont really change the ending, but future scenes.
But Chapter 3 will have the first "big decision" that will affect the game directly (yes, you will be warned when it comes, different hud and all) and we plan to have at least one of these with each girl individually, besides the final "mayor choices"
Compare this to Fallout New Vegas's choices with each companion, and the main story choices near the end.
If you think about it, this is easier to make, compared to simple branching points, while also adding more realism on the player's decisions shaping the future.
(Yeah, one day CatS and me are going to write a book about videogame design after retiring lol)
