A blast from the past, back at a time where H games were sold in CDs and buying a physical copy is a complex mix of emotions and embarrassment that wouldnt be appreciated today. Played this as a kid but never did finish it, so I was keen to see if it held up after all these years.
So the premise is basically you're playing a maid management game where your job is essentially to train maid trainees into doing whatever it is maids tend to do in real life. Days are divided into three parts and you set the tasks to be trained for each of your girls, with due consideration of their stamina. After three months each of your maids would be evaluated for a passing grade, and assuming conditions are met you get their respective endings.
At night is where the H begins. Obviously japanese maids arent just adept at holding a broom. Logic dictates that they must also master even risque forms of 'servicing' and it is up to only you to train up so they can suck cock like an expert and whore themselves out as required. Due consideration must also be taken for their stamina otherwise they wont be able to work the next day and you get a penalty to their affections towards you. Dont overwork your maid guys, its not nice.
Artwork is what youd expect from retro anime before the start of the millennium. They all have this massive hairstyles and outfits, with very exaggerated facial expressions when emoting, but I kinda like it. The girls are fairly varied; you get the mandatory vanilla girl next door, cute shortie that somehow qualifies as an 18+, and the suspiciously mature girl with the big boobies.
Conclusion...
Im happy to say that the game does actually hold up to my expectations. The dialogue is well written to an extent, and the added VA helps out a ton because back then youd be lucky to hear your PC beep. The gameplay loop isnt as annoying as I thought, and the girl's dialogue changes in accordance to their affection levels and as their experience increases. Yes, a near 30 year old game grasps the fundamental importance of character growth and interaction better than the games today.
That said, its definitely showing its age, and its a darn shame that its likely the main reasons why anyone not sucking on a nostalgia pill probably wouldnt want to play this. The game is stuck in 360p with black borders, heavily relies on mouse clicking, no options anywhere, so to save you actually need to create a save folder yourself and save into individual files, and if you dont like the music or would like to turn down the volume, you cant do it in-game. Mercifully there is a speed up option added because otherwise youd be staring at the text moving at a pace of a snail gliding through a desert.
Do I recommend this? Well yeah...but thats meaningless because chances are good if youre reading this now, its because youve already chosen the red nostalgia pill, ready to tolerate all its imperfections. But if all you want is a maid trainer, I can only assure you that the games more than adequate for it. Theres really not many games, both retro or modern, that precisely scratch the maid trainer itch anyway.
Give it a try, because the game deserves it.
