I'd like to comment further, but Shiny doesn't approve and the thread is sort of his. I'll say this, however - very quickly, I promise; the thought of any big group of people not wanting anything is simply untrue.
Everyone wants what's best for them, and for mankind in general, that's often someone else to lighten the load, entertain, take a bullet for them, help not starve, create, give, charish or allow them to live in a better state of privacy than the one they have with their parents.
Sounds like a mission complete node. Cool.

I intensely disagree with that premise. But yeah, this is too big of an issue to get into on a game thread.
Getting back on topic, I have a question for Shiny. If Mystique were in the game (either now or in the future), what color would her nipples/areolas be? It's a big pet peeve of mine when sex games have girls with fantasy skin tones like blue or green, but give them rosy pink nipples as if that's the only color nipples could possibly be. (Example here if anyone hasn't seen this before.)
Not that my vote matters much in the grand scheme of this game, but my vote is for purple. I like purple. Also, regarding FWB I feel like that's a bit more justified since, like, the funky skin colors are technically fur colors, and so you could argue their skin is a rosy pink color.

Maybe that's not the best example, but I've seen it in a lot of different places, that's just the first one I thought of. It's kinda hard for me to come up with examples of it, because I usually don't bookmark games that do it that way, but

It does. I bring up all requests and ideas to the dev team. They may not be accepted but the fact that we have an actual discussion, to me at least, makes it matter.
If we give her blue form nipples, a bluish purple would likely be the route we go.

If we have the budget and time I'd think Mystique would be a character we let players customize. Skin, eyes, nipples, hair, and vagina colors would probably be adjustable. This is just a random thought however. I'll bring it up with the dev team in the future as she'd probably be a late game addition.
I want a harem but it would be fun to see some of the gals get jealous and not readily accepting other gals. There's a funny scene in RLE (it rarely triggers) where you gf will find out about you railing other gals and would get very angry. You can apologise but then also suggest her to have a threeway - the interaction imo is quite hot and funny at the same time
The dev team had a long and in depth debate over this.

The long version?
I advocated to give the player the choice to permanently friendzone a girl to which the girl would then end up with her canon partner. I was outvoted by every member of the team and a decision was made that the player would be able to pursue any girl at any time they want. I'll note that at no point did I suggest NTR as it would have been YOUR choice to tell a girl you're not interested in her. The team knows this, I'm just letting you guys know my intent.
We had a long discussion on how that would function with the game chronologically taking place over the course of at least 6 years would make girl storylines make no sense.
The example used was that Jean is a college senior and graduates to become a professor at Xavier's academy starting from chapter 2 onwards. She wouldn't be anxiety ridden about finals 5+ years after graduation if you simply chose to never date her.
The head dev suggested and implemented limited time events. Each chapter is broken up into the 4 different seasons of the year. You get a warning message saying to go and do whatever events you have left before proceeding.
You have the option to go through girl stories platonically as long as you turn down every invitation to a date. The only change is that they won't refer to you as their boyfriend and any sex scene that happens won't occur.
You can optionally only interact with them enough for the requirement of proceeding to the next chapter, you need to go through some team building exercises, and not be involved with them at all.
Two things happen because of this. You can blame ME specifically for one of them.
1. Some girls will experiment with dating during the time skips if you're not romancing them and may even lose their virginity to someone off screen. Again not NTR as you'll never see it happen. I advocated for this because there's no way in hell Jean Grey is going to be a virgin when she's nearing her 30s. Some characters will remain virgins due to character reasons with Rogue being the only one I'm allowed to talk about and others will be due to their age. By chapter 6 you're a teacher and the New Mutants around that time are fresh 18 year olds.
2. If you wait till the post main story sandbox, romancing a girl will mostly be grinding compliments and gifts. You'll still get to know personal details and you'll get a summarization of what you missed out on. A lot of the events are time sensitive due to their placement in the comic timeline so that's just it. The bond you build will be very mundane in that you just build a normal relationship by going on dates, hanging out, and being supportive over the shared trauma and life saving moments of the main plot.
Since we're adapting the story arcs and plots from the comics the girls have to have a little more agency than just a sandbox that never progresses things won't be structured as a "harem." It will be a polyamorous relationship. You're free to cheat on girls all you want but it will piss them off if you don't consult them first or fess up within a timeframe. Consent and trust is key to polyamory.
None of the girls will cheat on you in this same manner mostly because they either love you that much or they know it'd make them a hypocrite if they slept around. The first group will be enraged or heartbroken and the second group will give you a lot of shit and rub the fact that they stopped sleeping around but you couldn't keep it in your pants.
Basic rule of thumb, tell EVERY member of your polyamorous relationship that you're interested in someone and you'll be fine.

[I wrote this before Shiny's response. Since I spent time writing it, I'm just gonna post anyway, even if it ends up being redundant.]
Yeah, that's one of the things that always kinda annoyed me about games like Milfy City. The writing seems to be proceeding from the mindset that you're only pursuing one romantic interest. Of course, when the MC says stuff like "you're the most beautiful woman in the world" or whatever, he could just be lying to get in their pants, but there's never any indication of that either through the MC's internal monologue or the girls getting suspicious. I think one of those incest-harem games did introduce a suspicion mechanic (I think it was Man of the House?), but then never really went anywhere with it. I would really love to have a game that gives you the option, if you're doing a harem route, to either sneak around and try to keep everyone a secret from everyone else (meaning the programming has potential for you to get caught and dumped by one of your romantic interests), or to corrupt all of them so much that they eventually reach a point where they completely abandon monogamy and are basically sister-wives. I always felt like incest-harem games like Milfy City should all end with an orgy of the whole family fucking you, and very few actually do that. If I remember correctly, Milfy City even hints at it with the background image of the menu screen, but never actually has that scene happen in-game.

Will there be any grinding before the post main story sandbox, or will it be mostly VN-style before that? Do you have any specific games that you would say the mechanics are most similar to? (Is it still taking after RLE in terms of the gameplay, or just the setting now?) Will there be any RPG-style combat to represent "the shared trauma and life saving moments of the main plot"?
May I suggest some kind of annotations (somewhere, even if it's just on like a loading screen) indicating which comic the current part of the story is taken from, for those of us who might enjoy reading the source material now and then, but don't want to spend a lot of time more thoroughly "doing the homework"? I imagine it might be pretty fun to be reading through the comics, getting to know the characters, and then at some points, I pause and get to interact with those same characters (and same chronology) in sexy situations. But I don't necessarily think I would have the patience to read through all the exhaustive chronological list of issues like some other people here are trying to do. In fact, I would probably be less likely to play the game at all if I felt like it was very closely tied to the comicbook continuity, but I didn't know where to get started catching up with that.
Any idea when the first chapter will come out?
By the way, Mr. shiny is a great marketer because he completely sold me the idea for this game and I can't wait to play it ;D

Shiny, how can you just drop something like this? This can be so incredibly good if done right. Along with everything else that's been given in relation to protagonist-character relationship, if done right, it may just be a great fetish that is never explored well in here: teacher-student relations.
Just look at Shiny, he reads comics and he's absolutely minted. Don't read comics is what you should take from this thread - just enjoy the porn.
That's an interesting phenomenom, isn't it? It's the same with me and TES, and the opposite with me and Fallout.
Either way - Shiny, there are about 3 days 'till the end of the month and uh... y'know? I bet my entire life saving of a single potato that the game'd come out before the end of the month.

I imagine any additional reading will be purely optional - and they could fit enough information in the game to satisfy. Besides, I really mean it, the comics are mental. You don't want to embark on a journey of pirating, waiting, putting time - into something that won't give the same treatment back.
What you want to do is see the best stuff for the character you like, search that up and nod at yourself with the satisfaction of the knowledge that you can do better things with your time.
Also, we're supposed to play a character at that moment, so we work with what's giving to us, not with any meta information. It's fun to play with limitations, and have your own ideals - it's what second playthroughs add to a game's life as well.
