But that is the thing, they are just making another H game. They making a parody of Rogue Like, but stripped out the best part of Rogue Like (the freedom) and turn it into any other generic visual novel H game with just different art.

This is why I said the latter half of my post falls into the realm of "subjective" gameplay design. I feel like the game would be better as an open world sandbox rather than another standard "visual novel".

And I disagree, you can still have a dynamic sandbox game that is story driven without needing to completely lock it down into a linear format.

All it takes is a different design mindset when creating events (content), to keep certain aspect vague so that it can be modular and slotted into different points of progression. Rather than something that is overly detailed that forces you into narrowly tailored checkpoint situations. And few lines of alternating flavor text that show up conditions checks to see if you have done certain events or not.

That doesn't match at all with what I saw in game. The player character literally straight up tells Rogue that he isn't willing to be in a monogamous relationship with her when she first becomes his girlfriend. Even if you choose to abstain from having sexual relationships with other girls, thematically (canonically) it means that if you enter a relationship with Rogue you are in a polygamous relationship. You're not actually allowed to choose monogamy via dialogue (thematically), even if you choose to be monogamous via abstaining.
Out of all this, I'll just point out that this game isn't, and never tried to be a parody of another game (such as RLE). It's a parody of the X-Men series.

In that sense, this game and RLE share the source material and inspiration. And while it's true that certain aspects of this game are inspired by RLE, it by no means tries to be the same or copy things. They are two very different games, each with their own space and niche. You can like one over the other, or both or neither.

Just understand that neither is trying to be a 2.0 version of the other. Imo, neither is perfect, but this one suits my tastes a lot more in both the art department and in the "dating sim" aspect it has going on over RLE.

As for your other points, I won't argue one way or another since I feel that this game is still in it's early stages and I want to see how everything starts looking like once Chapter 2 rolls around. I see potential for TNH to be one of the best adult games ever for me, but there's always the possibility of something being implemented in just the "right" way to make my perception of the game take a U-turn.

With all that said, it's quite clear that TNH is going heavy in the direction of being a fleshed out dating sim, with a heavy focus on character.

Mac files are broken. Does anyone have the correct one?
Actually I can't run even when downloading from Patreon... Anyone can help?

It just says

"The application “TheNullHypothesis.app” can’t be opened."

It's not related with Ctrl+clicking, btw.

I don't think you know what the definition of parody is. What you literally described is exactly what makes TNH a parody of RLE.

A parody is when you imitate something.

RLE is an obvious H parody of X-Men Evolution (Marvel in general) cause it copies (imitate) the setting, certain character design of the school and characters.

In the TNH you have shot for shot recreation of certain unique aspects of RLE such as the basic premise of the game, main character and his powers, certain game structure, dialogue, etc... those are all examples of imitation (inspiration), hence why it is a parody of RLE more than anything.

Also just because TNH is a parody of RLE doesn't mean its not also a parody of X-men Evolutions. Because if you make a parody of a parody it doesn't mean it becomes mutually excluded from being a parody of the source material of the original parody. Because you can parody (imitate) multiple things simultaneously.

Parodies don't have to be 100% the same, the point of a parody is to critique something or address its shortcomings.

Just understand that neither is trying to be a 2.0 version of the other. Imo, neither is perfect, but this one suits my tastes a lot more in both the art department and in the "dating sim" aspect it has going on over RLE.
As I said. I am fan of what this game brings in terms of world building depth. It definitely makes the game feel more alive mechanics wise. Such as having actual semi-relevant background characters like Night Crawler, and Professor X who actually interact with you other than brief one liners like "Cyclops accidently melted all your clothes in the training room". Needing to shower, being able to turn of the lights in your room, etc... just more in detail actions overall.

Art style wise don't really have any comment, since I feel like it has its ups and downs. Though all the girls suffer from having the same exact face structure, which makes it a bit uncanny.

Overall it is massive improvement to how stagnate and shallow RLE.

As for your other points, I won't argue one way or another since I feel that this game is still in it's early stages and I want to see how everything starts looking like once Chapter 2 rolls around. This is exactly why I am providing the feedback now rather than later.

It is because the game is still early on, which means aspects of the game aren't set in stone and can still be changed, and isn't buried under years of spaghetti code that necessitates making a completely new game from the ground up to add or change something major,

There is 0 hope for Oni to make any significant improvement to RLE other than constantly pump out new characters at this point in RLE after he has done 3 overhauls of the code base and the game has fundamentally stayed basically the same the entire time gameplay wise.

Also I am not complain that the game is a more fleshed dating sim, cause I fully agree that is what severely lacking in RLE. The critique is about how it is implemented is overly linear with hard checkpoint requirements that don't add anything to the game. The game would be better if the dating sim part was implemented in a more dynamic fashion with soft requirements rather than hard static requirements.

For instance why is it a hard requirement for you to study with Rogue 3 times and go train in the Danger Room 1 time in particular?

Why not make it more modular and say you know go do x amount of any activities with her to slowly build up your relationship with her. Like repeatedly study, swim, train, go to the mall / movies with her. Give flesh out the significance of those actions themselves so you can organically build your relationship with the girl rather than here is a forced laundry list that you have to do.

An example of making things dynamic / modular is have conditions check whether the sum of your love and trust is greater than a certain threshold for an event to fire off, rather than just go on a date with this girl 3 times. As you can see that allow you to progress in a more free and creative way with alternative paths, rather than here is a particular chore list you have to do with only one way to progress.

All great guesses, the running bet on the discord for the remaining girls, besides Storm, are Kitty, Dazzler and Polaris.

That's the spirit buddy! In regards to feet, as a general rule of thumb, the more niche the kink, the less likely it will be in the game. Feet is not nearly as niche as many of the other things suggested before, so while I can't confirm or deny anything, I'll say you have a decent chance.
I think foot fetishism is the most common and vanilla of all.
In any case, thank you, it's enough to keep my hopes up. I'm going to burn a candle in church and pray. :p

It's fun to read too much into the game's upcoming characters. So, my guesses, with absolutely no qualifications on my part:

Storm was a given, as she has already appeared.

Illyana Rasputin, since her brother is in the game. With the bonus of having a sidequest of surving an angry brother made of organic metal after he finds out your shtupping his sister.

Kitty would be an obvious choice, but as frosh, she may be too loli for Patreon. So, Jubilee or Emma would be logical, but the game is diverging from Oni's, so Polaris might work. But if given the choice, I'd go with Dazzler, who hates Rogue.
You've summed up all the possible girls as far as I can tell, given what's talked about in the discord.

Even if kitty isn't part of the next story update (aka updates that add a new school year) she'll be in the game one day. The game's writers love her too much.

There's also a cool guy modding in Polaris. It might just be his way of practicing. I'd consider her to be the least likely of those on the list, based on vibes.

Dazzler hates Rogue? Tell me more!

It was added in version .3 you can currently tell the girls you're monogamous in the conversation you're talking about. and you can cheat on them too.

Edit: you don't have to cheat on them.

I should visit the discord once in a while, butI never seem to get there.

Rogue was with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the 1980s (under the control of Mystique), and tried to kill Dazzler on at least twice in the Dazzler miniseries that I can recall

Dude, did you notice that you seem to be unable to judge TNH on it's own? Almost everything you say is RLE this and RLE that. You clearly want to play RLE and nothing wrong with that, but this ain't it.

You even tried to school me on what a parody is, wtf my dude. TNH is not trying to imitate RLE, get this out of your system. It's a parody of X-Men (NOT RLE), just as much as RLE is ALSO a parody of X-Men. I thought that much was obvious, but apparently not. Sheesh.

TNH is not, and has never tried to be an improvement over RLE, it never tried to be compared to RLE. It's simply a different game based on the same original IP (which is X-Men. Not RLE since RLE isn't an original IP).

It's not even based on the evolution cartoon, or the 90's cartoon, it seems to follow more along the lines of the comics, but it does draw inspiration from all the cartoons, be that in character appearance, outfits, events and whatnot.

Again, this is not RLE nor will it ever be, it's its own thing. It exists in parallel to RLE, just like Toby Maguire's Spiderman Movies exist in parallel to Andrew Garfield's and Tom Holland's.

I understand the frustration of wanting something very specific and not having that catered. Might be what's going on with RLE right now (I've seen the squirrel girl art, nightmare fuel). But that's that and this is this.

So far, I've been enjoying TNH for what it is despite having some caveats and things I'm still unsure of, mostly pertaining to how things get handled in the future in regards to added characters, content, "quirks", kinks and systems. But so far, the folks working on TNH haven't dropped the ball, so I suggest waiting for more updates and see if you can enjoy TNH for what it is in the future (if it's not appealing enough to you in the present). You can always join the discord and drop suggestions in there directly as well, since the dev team is very active.

So long as those suggestions pertain to making TNH a better version of TNH instead of some folks' "desired version of RLE", I'm sure that the devs will take the suggestions under consideration (even if they ultimately decide to not act on them).

I wouldn't bother trying to reason with him. he's trying to wind you up because of how little fun RLE is. it's been going for over 2 yrs now and barely has any real content and this game is picking up fans left and right. just ignore the troll

About the static requirements, as you put it, I'd guess it's to introduce obligatory plot-relevant story events with those characters. One could argue that not all of these are strictly obligatory for the plot to work, but there is one that absolutely is, and if the player doesn't pay attention to it (like I had done in the past), it can make the story crumble. I'm talking about the events with Jean and Laura prior to Null getting attacked by a mob. He is able to teleport away with Kurt at the end of the event only because we learn through Jean's obligatory training events that Null can now turn his powers on and off, though he lacks finesse in his control. We also learn that he had become a decent-ish combatant and had been improving by leaps and bounds, justifying how he is able to take down a mob without only relying on his powers.

There's also the fact that the game plays in seasons, and the whole "study X times" is more of a symbolic way to represent that he had been studying for the entire season, without making you (the player) actually have to do that since that'd be a massive slog, gameplay-wise. TNH has a plot and a story, and character arcs, and in order for those to work certain events need to happen in a certain order. Scripting events seem to be the simplest way to do it while still keeping an organic feel and not feeling overly "railroad-y"

As with this and many other games by various developers on here, the Mac files are packaged weirdly such that Archive Utility doesn't unpack them properly. Use The Unarchiver and you can play it.

This is the correct answer. I'm not a Mac user myself and think it's something about the default way Ren'Py exports the Mac build, but I'm open to suggestions about how to package the Mac builds in a way that doesn't require the workaround!

The only negative point that I find and which is only my personal opinion, is the lack of foot fetishism during the sex scenes
Had to be cut for time early on. We'll be adding it in as we update the sex art to match the quality of the new character art.

There may be a character down the line that breaks that barrier and has less shame about appearing nude in public
I mean who says they don't have the possibility of arriving next chapter?

Ya' never know. /shrug

I should visit the discord once in a while, butI never seem to get there.
There's a lot of cool shit. We talk about video games, have fun polls, heck we even necessitated a fan art channel.

We also have a channel dedicated entirely to people clowning on the social media aspect of TNH.

Rogue was with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the 1980s (under the control of Mystique), and tried to kill Dazzler on at least twice in the Dazzler miniseries that I can recall
I wonder how this would go down IF Dazzler makes it in? :sneaky:

It's not even based on the evolution cartoon, or the 90's cartoon, it seems to follow more along the lines of the comics, but it does draw inspiration from all the cartoons, be that in character appearance, outfits, events and whatnot.
Outside of the character Morph, the 90s cartoon was pretty much just a straight up adaptation of several comic storylines. If you see something familiar, it was most likely us using the source material the cartoon drew from as well.

Although the costumes of the 90s cartoon are somewhat unique in some regards and we're not opposed to adding those specific variants down the line. Heck, Rogue's swimsuit is based off of the one seen in the show.

Again, this is not RLE nor will it ever be, it's its own thing. It exists in parallel to RLE, just like Toby Maguire's Spiderman Movies exist in parallel to Andrew Garfield's and Tom Holland's.
I mean I can't speak for the rest of the dev team on this but I have no qualms with the idea of RLE being an different part of the multiverse. We still call dibs on Earth 69 though.

Also side note, I'm not 100% sure on if we'd ever do actual collaborations as pretty much every Marvel game on this site has their protagonist be instigators in dubcon or straight up noncon. Two fetishes that we have no intention on catering to.

Again, I think multiverse stuff is neat. Especially since one of the Doom games has Deadpool doing fun stuff, but any actual collaboration would have to be discussed heavily. These are just my random thoughts and opinions at 2AM.

The game is good but resetting the save and having to start all over again is a pain in the ass.
I had a whole thing outlined and stuff but I'm gonna save you the wall of text and just say that we changed up some core systems, added content to the beginning of the game that can't be accessed at the end, and that we will do our best to make sure we don't have to do another update that could make saves break.

Question for the developers. Do you have any plans to add competition in the “battle” for girls? NO NOT NTR. Just competition. The meaning is this: If you give up on one of the girls, another one approaches her, if you still continue to ignore the girl, he takes her for himself. And we need to "retake" her if the player wants (by double means/time/sweet/pain/money etc.). NO NTR. Just the element of game/excitement.

Or plans only for a harem and nothing more?

I was just prompted to this idea by the text in the application - “Status: open relationship”.

That is by design by the looks of it. There may be a character down the line that breaks that barrier and has less shame about appearing nude in public, but most of the ladies are going to have certain moral limits to what they will and will not do. The limit is more flexible in private with the MC.
In the early days of the new X-Men comics there was one issue when Storm stripped down summoned up a small rain cloud and took a shower right on the front lawn of the mansion with the rest of the group all present. She didn't understand why everybody except Wolverine, who enjoyed the show reacted the way they did and cloaked herself with some fog while she finished the shower. Of course she was still new to the team and the country at the time, while in this game she's a teacher so she may have have learned the standard public dos and don'ts already.

I've progressed all the way to summer and done most of the side content. I do wonder however, are there more clothes for jean and laura other than the sports shorts? Nothing else seem to unlock for me.
