Comics schizo-posting... We're not safe anywhere... MonkaS
I am sorry...
I was bored and the word "woke" triggered me a bit...
Us y'all aren't "scared" of inclusion, we just think stuff like modern Marvel, SW or other Disney IP's are being done very poorly. No one hates the new trilogy because Rei is a woman and Finn is black, they hate it because it wipes it's ass with the source material and everything new it does is terrible.
If nothing else we can agree on this. The way the original Trio was unjustly treated left a very bad taste in the mouth. The worst thing was that there was no need for it.
Anyway, there is a distinct difference between a character that happens to be different than that of the original or from a "inclusive" sexual or racial background and a characters or narrative changes that exist to to push an ideology while shitting on the original.
Miles is the perfect example, the games, books, and shows can never seem to pass up an opportunity to shit on Peter and outright tell the audience how shit Peter is and that you should like Miles instead, usually from Peters own mouth.
I can't talk about Spiderman specifically as I don't read Marvel at all. My Marvel knowledge purely stems from Movies, Series, and Games.
But I agree that that specific trope of tearing someone down to uplift someone else is something that I dislike. There are better ways to tell your story.
Because that's what he exists to be, he's not there to be a successor to Superman that happens to be gay, he's there to be gay Superman.
Here is where we disagree and where it is hard for me to believe that your dislike of Jon isn't purely based on his sexual preference. Or that you have read the comics he has been in.
His comics have not been about him being a gay Superman even though I can understand why people think that. DC sucks at promoting their Comics and the headline of "Superman is gay now" was totally on them.
His whole story is about him not being Clark. Him not knowing how to live up to the expectations of being Clark's successor. Him growing up to the role too fast and finally ecxepting that he doesn't need to be the same and his own Superman. With his own problems and how to deal with them.
Is he my favorite Superman? No.
Is his comic one of the best stories told about Superman? No, far from it.
Is he just a gay Superman and nothing more? Absufuckinklutaly not.
That is the problem that I had with your post. You degradingly breaking him down to just being a Superman who is gay. Which he is not.
Don't get me wrong, you have every right to dislike or criticize stories or characters but do that without using degrading/insulting verbiage that is all.
Plus as I said the word "woke" just triggered me. It is just such a stupid word and gets thrown around too much.
I will leave it at that.
