Have they come up with an alternative to Magneto being a survivor of the actual holocaust or are they saying that at minimum Magneto is in his 90s?
there was an episode in X-Men Evolution where he used a machine to help heal himself similar to the one that made Steve Rogers Captain America but no idea how they'll do it this time

The issue here isn't a question of whether they can do it, but that the companies want to keep these characters going for as long as possible and letting them age gets in the way of that. Imagine if Marvel explicitly stated that an issue of Amazing Spider-Man takes place in, say, 1963 and that Spider-Man was 17 years old in this issue. If they held true to that and let the character age with each month it took for an issue to come out, then, by now, Peter Parker would be 79 years old. Anchoring a story in a specific year would eventually raise awkward questions if you're planning on having your hero still be around 20 years later in more or less the same state of being.

It's not that the application of real time is impossible in a comic book; it's just that this isn't necessarily creatively desirable. The only examples I can think of where a comic's storyline ran from month to month both IRL and in-universe is The 'Nam and Marvel's currently ongoing reboot of their Ultimate universe.
Marvel has also tried to not tie their timelines to real world events as it gets harder and harder to keep them coherent. Simply put, the Sliding Timescale Marvel has been using isn't working anymore.

Prime example, Tony Stark (616) created the Iron Man armour when he was kidnapped during the Vietnam War. (1962, when he made his first appearance). Except, Tony Stark is supposed to be in his early 40s, meaning the Vietnam War had ended before he was born.

Likewise, the Punisher is a Vietnam veteran with multiple tours under his belt. Meaning Frank Castle should be in his 70s at least.

So to try and maintain a little coherency, Marvel brought back Sin-Cong (or Siancong), a minor Communist puppet state in Central Asia, effectively making it a stand-in for North Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and any number of conflicts in the latter half of the 20th and 21st century, making it a location for their military based character to have their retconned origins.
I don't get it, if they want to endlessly "exploit" the characters, then why make time frames at all? Literally, just let them not indicate the years when certain events take place so as not to confuse people and not to fool themselves with time transfers.
Yes, it will be strange and incomprehensible, but it is better to let it be like this than some stupid movements of time lines back and forth, twisting everything so stupidly.

I don't know, maybe it looks normal for people who read comics, but for me, a person far from this, it looks more like some kind of circus with clowns and not authors who make good and thoughtful content

Firstly, it's not exploitation if Marvel created the characters.

Secondly, you really don't get the point. Marvel tries not to tie years to their comics as it already dates them (and believe me, you read some comics from the early to mid 90s and they're dated enough as it is).

Thirdly, the whole point of a floating timeline is that you don't need to say what year it is. It's always the present day. Hence why it's called a floating or sliding timeline. But there are problems with maintaining that.

Marvel's sliding timeline works on the idea that approximately 15 years have passed since the Fantastic Four got their powers (real world year of 1961). So we're looking at 4 years real time for every 1 year in the Marvel universe. That's fine for characters like the Fantastic Four, or Spider-man or others.

Where it starts getting messy is when characters were explicitly tied to a real world event because they were meant to embody a philosophy or belief. Examples include:
- Iron Man creating his armour in Vietnam, as an anti-Communist and pro-war character. It's why a lot of Iron Man's earliest enemies were Soviet agents and imitators.
- Amongst the X-men, Professor X had fought in the Korean War.
- Flash Thompson and James Rhodes (Anti-Venom and War Machine respectively) are Vietnam War veterans.

By their very nature, those wars and origins get very dated, very quickly, necessitating shifting the origin to a more recent conflict. For example, Tony Stark can't make his armour in Afghanistan and be an anti-Communist character if the Soviet Union has been dead for 35 years, can he?

It's easier to create a fictional area that has been host to a number of conflicts in recent decades than to keep track of who needs to their origin updated every 5 years. And it's a whole lot easier to use it to maintain the sliding timeline.

Hey everyone. I got some bad news for those interested in dev team's personal lives.

My dog of 12 years has liver and kidney failure and I'm gonna be putting her down.

I'm gonna take a break from online responsibilities while I handle the grief as I have already lashed out at some people. (No one related to this community)

Shiny, you're the heart of this community. Your furry friend must have had all the love in the world.

The community will be here waiting (with all our problems and drama) when you get back.
Take care.

There's been more than a couple times in shows and such where he's seen making use of some dubious anti-aging tech, magic, or some combination of the two. So I think he's set up for the long run in that regard.

My condolences. I've been there (cat in my case). I'm sure the rest of us will try to help out where we can if there are questions or issues.

Fuck man. Stay strong brother. She's in a better place. This is why I'm afraid of owning a pet. I get attached too easily and refuse to let go..

Hey man, take all the time in the world. My cat 17 died recently from kidney failure too. Still processing it. We fought 3 months, tried almost everything but alas. Kidney failure hits like a damn freight train - It's sudden and almost irreversible and happens way too fast. It is really damn hard to let go, and especially be forced to let go. Best of luck to you and your family.

My dog passed on just a year and a half ago. It's a strange gap they leave behind.

I feel your pain. It's why I decided a while ago to not get any more pets, it becomes a repeating event since even if their health isn't an issue their shorter life spans are. Take all the time you need, we'll try not to make too much of mess of the board while your away.
