Earlier today at the gym, I accidentally dropped a dumbbell near my toes and somehow this one instance drove my train of thought into how the logistics of xavier's school of gifted youngsters work in the null hypothesis game. How? I have no fucking clue how my brain got there but it did and here I am asking questions no one probably will ever ask.
  1. Where does Xavier get all the funding for his school in the first place?
  2. How is the government approving an educational institution of mutants if they hate mutants in the first place?
  3. How does Xavier not get any heat considering the school is often attack by villains or god knows what else?
  4. Why has no parent ever sued xavier for endangering their children then probably enlisting them as X-men?
  5. What are the age ranges of the students in this school?
  6. Is it fully college aged students or are there any HS students?
  7. What classes are being thought in this school and are their any special classes or courses based on your chosen curriculum or field?
  8. Are there even enough teachers or professors in the this school to maintain everything?
  9. If some of the teachers are X-men then if there's an emergency and they have to go, does that mean classes are cancelled for that they since the teacher is off to save the world?
  10. Are there any non-mutant staff members in this school or are they all mutants?
  11. Can you enroll in summer classes in the school?
  12. How many students are even in this mansion?
  13. If its a one student per room set up, how the hell to they have so many rooms on the second floor of this mansion?
  14. Can you enroll in this school as a mutant normally or does Xavier have to choose you to be in this school?
  15. How much is the tuition of the school and how does my scholarship their affect it?
  16. How are international mutant students integrated into the school?
  17. If I touch Xavier's bald head and pretend it's a crystal ball, would I get expelled?
  18. Why am I even asking these?
  19. Am I insane?

here I am asking questions no one probably will ever ask.
1 - Xavier has inherited wealth and he's used his powers to figure out which stocks to invest in and he's got several corporations, all of which goes to fund the institute and the X-men. His current worth is roughly calculated to be $3.5 billion.
2 - Again, rich white guy with ties to government and military. Plus many officials in the government have probably been helped by the X-men or the X-men have saved the world enough times that they're willing to overlook it. Also, it's a private institution for gifted people. There isn't a blinking neon sign over the school saying "MUTIES HERE!"
3 - He has. Several of the more senior members of the team often live off campus. But the school's defences are usually strong enough to deter all but the worst attacks.
4 - Waivers. But more realistically, a lot of mutants who end up at the institute have often been rejected by their parents or have had to run away from home due to their powers. In some stances, their parents are dead (possibly because of their powers. E.g. that one mutant kid in the Ultimate universe who vaporised everyone in a several hundred foot radius when his powers activated...meaning he killed hundreds, if not thousands of people at once).
5 - Generally speaking, mutant powers manifest when someone either undergoes an extremely traumatic event or when they hit puberty. Some people are born with their mutations, but they're currently the minority. So roughly speaking, the students at the institute (in the 616 universe, I can't speak for the TNH universe), would be 12 to 18.
6 - Given the TNH's nature, the institute is a third level education facility, so they'd probably be college age. But it wouldn't be unreasonable for Xavier to have a high school facility separate from the university.
7 - Due to the size of the school, I would imagine that the school has a generalised curriculum, with specialised subjects being done at schools the Xavier Institute has affiliations with, like potentially Empire State University offering science courses.
8 - Wolverine's a history teacher. Seriously, several members of the X-men are actually accredited teachers.
9 - Substitute teachers exist and I also imagine the X-men would have course work prepared for if and when they need to save the world.
10 - In the comics, there was a human nurse. So yes, there can be non mutant staff.
11 - I would imagine courses are year round and I mean year round.
12 - Only a handful of students actually live at the school, but we have some sources citing that about 100 students are enrolled at the school.
13 - Again, only a handful of students actually live at the school, usually the ones too far to commute or are the students at high risk. So they can afford to have one student per room.
14 - It kinda depends. You could potentially go to the school and ask to be let in, but generally speaking the X-men are looking for mutants who are at risk, and they're the ones who are most likely to get invited to the institute because they're the ones who need it the most.
15 - Depends, I would imagine that Xavier's fortune means that he can give the mutants a free education for the ones most at risk. If there is a fee, it would probably close to a standard private school fee.
16 - Considering that many mutants come from overseas, I would imagine they integrate quite well.
17 - No. You'll just be left brain-damaged enough that you'll be able to breathe, but you'll likely shit yourself at least once every day.
18 - Because you weren't lobotomised as a child.
19 - I'm not qualified to make that diagnostic assertion.
20 - See 18.

[continues through with focusing on Rogue, but want to bring Jean into the relationship since it's been a while]

[realizes the amount of effort it would take for Rogue and Jean to be on good enough terms for that to happen since 0.2b]

So this is why people either frequently ask how to get Rogue and Jean to be friends, do the paining in the other game, or use console commands or Kirby's cheat mod. :cautious:

Only tangentially related, but this conversation's got me wondering now: what is preventative medicine like for mutants? Like, I'm sure the people with healing factors probably don't got to worry, but like how the hell do you give a flu shot to someone with rock skin? When's the last time one of the Xmen went to a dentist? stuff like that.

Just pair them up with you and go do stuff with them.

There have been cases of viruses that target mutants, yes.

Is there an ETA? Last I've heard it should be some time this month, but was there anything more specific?

More like mentally asking "If I wanted to invest in a good stock that wouldn't crash, what would it be?"
According to rich people, the Vanguard ETF S&P 500. Wait until the economy crashes in mid-July probably. There are various factors to this but basically wait a few months until the bottom drops out then swoop in and snag a position on the market.
Edit:Take any financial advice from a pervert on the internet with a grain of salt. Also mods have mercy on me.

nah nah, I dont mean like comicbook viruses and custom tailored plot devices. I'm thinking more run of the mill slice of life personal maintenance.

gimme the issue where cyclops has to go get a root canal.

So, I should probably 'fess up. Even though I did test the cheat to make Rogue and Jean friends to make sure it works, I've never actually used on one of my playthroughs. Half of the features of the cheat, I don't usually use. They're there because other people wanted it. I mostly just want to not worry about money and not worry about caps/limits (like stamina and stats).

Where does Xavier get all the funding for his school in the first place?
Inherited wealth combined with key investment. Members of the staff, like Beast, also produce high end technology which is patented out for income and also used to reduce school equipment costs.

How is the government approving an educational institution of mutants if they hate mutants in the first place?
Not everyone in the government hates mutants, the X-men have connections and have done favors for government officials so they have some pull (Beast even goes to work for the White House at one point). Striker may work for the state but a lot of his BS is done off the books.

How does Xavier not get any heat considering the school is often attack by villains or god knows what else?
He does, some people refuse to send their kids there. Much of the student body are either abandoned children or those whose parents acknowledge that they don't have the means to raise them without help. Also, the students themselves run cover since they know it would be worse if the institute wasn't there. Threats like Apocalypses would be a problem regardless of the institutes existence.

Why has no parent ever sued xavier for endangering their children then probably enlisting them as X-men?
See above point on neglected kids. Most missions are done by the older students or teachers and they have to volunteer.

What are the age ranges of the students in this school?
Is it fully college aged students or are there any HS students?
Mostly 12 to 21 but sometimes younger or older students are admitted by necessity, it depends on when their mutation kicked in. Once students can control their powers they tend to go on to proper universities alongside normal humans. In game everyone is 18 or older for legal reasons.

What classes are being thought in this school and are their any special classes or courses based on your chosen curriculum or field?
General education curriculum, extra classes on mutant biology and ethics (Xavier teaches the latter and makes sure to emphasis it) alongside power control training. AP credit classes are available to prepare students to transfer to major uni's once they are ready.

Are there even enough teachers or professors in the this school to maintain everything?
If some of the teachers are X-men then if there's an emergency and they have to go, does that mean classes are cancelled for that they since the teacher is off to save the world?
Teachers and students are used to some staff having to leave randomly, substitutes are available and lesson plans are set out in advance. Some staff can cover for multiple subjects. World ending situations aren't that common, it just seems that way since that's what the comics focus on. There are months at a time where nothing happens.
There are both mutant and human staff, we just don't see all of them all the time since the story focuses on a smaller cast for narrative sake.

Can you enroll in summer classes in the school?
Of course, sometimes it's even required to catch students up since they may have been away, sick, or unable to attend due to their powers. In game school is in session year round to not make new mechanics.

How many students are even in this mansion?
If its a one student per room set up, how the hell to they have so many rooms on the second floor of this mansion?
Depends on the continuity but usually not much more than 100; mutants are only a tiny portion of the population. Even though it's a boarding school most of the student body lives off campus. There are multiple wings to the mansion, not all the student accommodations are in the same place. Younger students are placed in different locations closer to the staff so they can better monitored.

Can you enroll in this school as a mutant normally or does Xavier have to choose you to be in this school?
How much is the tuition of the school and how does my scholarship their affect it?
Some parents do enroll their kids but mostly Charles and the X-men find or rescue kids, that's what Cerebro is for. Xavior mind scans for desperate mutants on a regular basis.
Mutants getting on normally don't need the school, it's for those who are isolated, abandoned or unstable. Some enroll for the community but they are not the majority. The school doesn't advertise, but those who go looking for help can find it.

Those who can pay, do. The rest Charles works something out for. The school is as much a containment facility as a learning institution. The primary goal is to make sure mutants are trained to use their powers and grow up to be healthy members of society and not genocidal mutant race supremacists (*Cough* Magneto *Cough*), it's not run for profit (which is hard for most Americans to comprehend). Tuition is on par with a private school.

How are international mutant students integrated into the school?
Same way exchange students are integrated in to normal schools. As an example, Kurt is German but has been taught English and attends classes with all the other students.

If I touch Xavier's bald head and pretend it's a crystal ball, would I get expelled?
No, but he might mind-shock you then give you detention with Logan and housebreaking lessons with Storm.

Why am I even asking these?
Why does anyone do anything?

Am I insane?
If you have to ask...
