The problem is, what you're suggesting is the to tell the same story I'm suggesting...but you want to censor/remove specific words. Even if you don't say "Britain" and "Japan", everyone will still know because people already know the character.
If everyone already knows, why do you need to say it?

It would be no more effective than telling a child to say "darn" instead of "damn", "butt" instead of "ass", or "poop" instead of "shit". It's just pointless and honestly probably a very clumsy way to write.
So all the directors, game makers, writers and artists going "Show me, don't tell me." is doing clumsy writing?

I was even thinking about this as I was falling asleep. It could even be a running gag. Null enters her room. He noticed a framed picture of a blonde woman and a red-head man.
Null: "Who are these?"
Psylocke: "My parents?"
*Null does double take.* Null: "What?"
Psylocke: "What?"
Null: "Aren't you Japanese?"
Psylocke: "Well, if you must know--"
*Alarm goes off*
Psylocke: "Looks like there's trouble, we'll talk about this later." *runs off*

Null goes to Jean. "Did you know Psylocke's parents aren't Japanese?"
Jean: "Yeah. And?"
Null: "But, isn't she--"
Jean: "I don't think it's very polite to dig into her past like that" *Jean turns and walks away*

Null goes to Rogue looking confused.
Rogue: "What's wrong, sugah?"
Null: "I'm just really confused."
Rogue: "About what?"
Null: "Psylocke. Her parents look nothing like her."
Rogue: "And?"
Null: "Doesn't that seem odd?"
Rogue: "Family comes in all shapes and sizes. Mine didn't look like me either. And everyone has a secret or two in their past. I'm in no position to judge."

Man I don't know where you got caught up on "needing to say things".
salscou: Psylocke is asian
You: I never noticed
salscou: Well she is so if you guys show her, showing her as asian it would be best
You:Well why are we so opsessed with people announcing their race? Who does that?

:WaitWhat::WaitWhat::WaitWhat:
Where did that come from? Why are you so hung up? You didn't notice. Just show her as asian. Where did the hang up on announcing things come from? Because you didn't see things?

Exactly what her parentage is, it's more of backstory and trivia anyway. Why is that a problem? Should dev time be wasted showing exactly how her parents came together? It's a minor detail. Shouldn't matter. If there is dialogue for it, cool, if not people will be curious and might ask for a backstory from someone if they care enough, just to fill details if nothing else.

Question as someone who only has seen psylocke in the Jim Lee runs in early 90s: is her character even remotely interesting outside the love triangle with Jean and The Cuck® and being a two tits on a broomstick? What makes her different from any other character? Hell even lady hellstrike was less boring back then

I liked her just for the "magic sword" gimmick, but there are better characters like Magik that fill that trope.

Honestly I hate to admit it but one of her best appearances is in Xtreme X-men

Worth noting Rogue is an absolute bad ass in this run. Also introduced a very under uztilized character lifeguard.

Well, no. My point, from the beginning is, just don't say it. It's not necessary. I didn't call anyone else obsessive. I didn't say anything else you said I said. I didn't say it was a problem. I'm actually saying the opposite. It's so obvious and so not a problem that you shouldn't bring it up. Just treat it like the grass is green. Here's the exact quote:
I'm still in the camp of "Don't bring it up and let the reader/player make up the head cannon for themselves." since these are fictional characters and it's all in our heads anyways. But I forget what Shiny and the devs ended up landing on for their approach.
Everything else you think I'm saying, that's your interpretation. That's your own internal dialogue. I'm just saying, don't say it. Show her as Asian. Hell, show her as Japanese. Make her appear in a kimono while speaking Japanese in a Shinto temple while performing a tea ceremony. Just don't outright say it. I mean, for all I know, the devs can decide she's Canadian-Korean and adopted by British parents who sent her off to ninja school because they're ex-MI6 agents with a debt of honor with the Yakuza or something and no one would know the difference.

Where did that come from? Why are you so hung up? You didn't notice. Just show her as asian. Where did the hang up on announcing things come from?
I'm not the one with the hang up about announcing things. I'm saying don't announce it. I have the opposite of that.

Because you didn't see things?
No, because it doesn't matter. Like you said.

Exactly what her parentage is, it's more of backstory and trivia anyway.

Like, you technically agree with me but you somehow think I'm arguing against you.

Okay then, we either get a purple haired brittish girl people normally dont associate with psylocke, or we deal with said british girl puppeteering the comatose body of a japanese ninja and stick our dick in regardless, see where the issue is in here?

What was the version in Remender's Uncanny Xforce? I think they just made her a british betsy braddock and let it go. It's probably the best version of the character

And Oni did neither. It isn't an either or thing. Hell, they could make her a British woman who has an ancient ancestor who's a Skrull and she got stuck when she transformed herself into a Japanese woman to do some infiltration or something. This is the dev's own universe. We're not limited to just those two options.

Hence me pointing out that Oni's solution was practical for such a convoluted story and character, but youre making a fuss out of it, what the hell do you want then?
She HAS to have a story that is somewhat Psylocke.

But why? Why bother? To what end? It expends more energy to deliberately avoid a thing than to let it either happen or not happen naturally.
Why bring it up? If it's so natural, you wouldn't need to bring it up nor deliberately avoid it. As I mentioned before, no one brought up what race Laura is. Someone had to guess and someone else had to theorize. That takes more energy than just going *shrug* "Meh. Whatever.". Not doing something, by the laws of physics, always require more energy than doing something.

My man, thats even brought up in the comics.

At some point you will have to admit to yourself that youre the one that has a weird issue with this and not everyone else, because its always the same fuss about this with you.

Dude, I just said my piece. You're all the only that keeps replying. Like I wrote before. If you stop replying to me, I'll stop going on about it. I'm not the one making a fuss. I'm not the one insisting on a false dichotomy of British Psylocke or ninja Psylocke. That was you. All I said, all I was saying is, don't say it. I've said that explicitly multiple times. Did I say Oni's approach was bad? Did I say it has to be my way? All I said was, I'm still in the camp of "Just don't say it." Because everyone knows already and who cares. You're all the ones trying to pick apart my personal opinion and then saying I'm making a fuss somehow? I'm just pointing out that if it's so natural and obvious, you don't need to bring it up. Because who cares? And that's not even a rhetorical question. Literally, if she showed up as Japanese with Japanese parents, waving her Japanese passport while doing stereotypical Japanese tentacle porn, would you care whether or not she said she's Japanese? Again, a serious question. Because I don't. In fact, if, during all of that, she announced she was Japanese, I'd be like "Well, duh."

Like seriously, show of hands. Who here cares if Psylocke actually says she's Japanese if she already shows up as Japanese?

Because Kwanon and Betsy Braddock are two different people, homever, the Psylocke we were familiar with in the comic, was the mind of Betsy in the body of Kwanon, and if she shows up as a LI, thats a very violent conversation to have.

Would you feel comfortable dating and having sex with a woman that is using the body of someone else?

I don't care too much outside of the narrative as to why. But you do for some reason. Even if she is obviously Asian, there is a story as to how that is like salscou mentions.

Can she reverse it? Did/does she have a choice? Does she like the fact she's in someone else's body? Is Kwanon still alive in and in that body, seeing/feeling/reacting to all of it? If all of those answers are no, then yes, I'm okay with it. Because that's the hand she's dealt with and she's just trying to make the best of a bad situation and have some semblance of life.

Still your internal narrative. All I said was, I'm in the camp of "Just don't say it." As in, it's my opinion that the best way to handle it. I didn't yell at Oni for mentioning it. I didn't tell Salcou that his feelings are invalid. I didn't pick apart other people's opinion. Just because I like pancakes, doesn't mean I hate waffles.

Betsy transfered her mind to Kwanon's body because she was moribound after a fight with the hand (those ninjas Elektra and Daredevil fight), Kwanon is comatose, but shes very much alive, eventually in the comics that does get to be an issue because the two persons are figting for control of the body.
