I think Shiny (the game's community manager) is reluctant to spill specifics on what the writers are working on because it means the writers can't create the first impression of their writing. That and the whole "we'll murder your family if you blab" thing they've repeated stated to him. But there's enough discussion on the broad strokes to establish a desire to have more characterisation than a game with a scene-sex sandbox design focus. Is the game planning to further explore and deepen the impact of the X-gene on the relationships between the protagonist and his girlfriend(s)?
Not in terms of sex, but, for example, the opportunity to learn from Jean how she perceives her telepathy, how she perceives telekinesis, whether her mind-reading works in the background or requires concentration...
P.S. Jean also teaches Null to turn off his abilities, meaning she can read his mind or fly with him if she so chooses?
So, infinite loop errors only arise when the code, framework or interpreter is able to detect an infinite loops. As in, it has to recognize that the logical path it's ran was ran almost immediate before. That can be easy to find or hard to find. It's not a good indication of timing or speed. Hell, I've accidentally written infinite loops before and it's crashed the machine before anything caught it. (Though not on python. I don't usually work on python)Not in the mood to record this right now, but if I say slow, I mean slow. How long does it take to get a Ren'Py infinite loop error? Maybe 30 seconds, maybe more that's what I define as slow.
Is it that slow the whole game or just certain parts of the game?I don't play on 60 FPS nor do I have the desire to look at high definition sprites on a 1600x900 laptop screen, if you know what I mean. I even don't care about some stuttering here and there, but anything which is taking longer than 10 seconds is slow in my definition.
Admittedly, that's older than my setup:lap spec is: i5-3230m/2,6GHZ, 8 GB RAM and intel 4000 chip onboard and a nvidia GPU 710m with 1 GB graphics ram. HD is a 5400 rpm drive (not ssd). OS Win 10.

General chat option dialogue and ambient events won't be tracked as that'd be way too much of an effort and would most definitely slow down the game. I'm code illiterate, not code blind.Someone previously talked about this too and Boots said something in the vein of that the game tags and tracks the dialogue options you choose so that if players just blindly pick the options that make the Love Interests happy each time instead of what makes sense then they'll notice it.
In Chapter 1, Null's just kind of a dude. He's a college student with no reason to be doing anything else.Right now Null has been more or less stuck in or around the mansion for a year. If he gets to go to more places in the story I'm sure that will help too
In short, yes. Though as the later post says, I can't go into specifics.
To briefly explain how Null's mind works in regard to telepathy. Null can actively block any attempt if he wants. However it will always block malicious telepathy. Such as someone trying to Jedi mindtrick him or going into his head to steal information.P.S. Jean also teaches Null to turn off his abilities, meaning she can read his mind or fly with him if she so chooses?

Thanks for looking over it and yeah, your old laptop is better than mine haha. So, infinite loop errors only arise when the code, framework or interpreter is able to detect an infinite loops. I don't know if my higher specs make the difference, but I do have a laptop floating around that should be older than what you're using. When I have time today, I'll give it a whirl on that.
Right now, the questions I have are:
IMO, the last one is probably the easiest to answer/handle. I know from tech news and from personal experience that after a certain patch on win10, everything slowed down to a crawl. I don't remember which one. I can check my windows partition later. Is it slow enough for this game to slow down? No idea. I haven't trusted MS patches in a long while. But when I say slow, I mean, even opening up menus sometimes is slow. (But, you know, MS doesn't do planned obsolescence, they pinky sweared.).
- Is the entire game slow or only certain parts?
- Are you running optimus? If so, are you sure the game is running on the nvidia card?
- Is this the only game where its slow? Are there are other games that run just as slow? How do "more taxing" or similar games run? (3D games, other renpy games with live-2D) Do they run faster?
- What patch are you on in win10?
Even though NexivSelecaf has shit on me in the past for mentioning linux/open source software, if your laptop has 2 drives or the hard drive can be easily be removed/replaced, that might be something fast to try out. Though if you want something with a smaller overhead just for testing purposes, I'd advise against linux mint for now. Lint mint is base off of ubuntu, uses systemd and defaults to cinnamon. All of those have higher overhead than, say, straight debian, sysvinit and a more minimum desktop environment. This is why I stick toYou must be registered to see the links(though I was using xfce prior to devuan). I talked about a second hard drive before but, honestly, you can probably try booting off a external USB drive to test it out. Sure the USB can be faster than a spinning hard drive (...in general), but that's at least you can cross off the OS possibility. If it runs faster, that's a strong indicator that it's the OS. If it runs as slow, then it's probably the hardware.
If you do install with debian/devuan, make sure to follow theYou must be registered to see the linksIt can get kinda tricky because of the whole proprietary vs open source drivers thing. I've had better performance/better luck with proprietary drivers compared to the open source versions, but I'm hearing the tide has started to change on that recently. Though, for your testing purposes, I'd stick to the proprietary drivers. Just so it's a closer one-to-one comparison to windows and eliminate possibilities as to where the problem is.
ETA: The other computer I have should be older than your's (still has the win 7 sticker on it), but it seems the specs are a bit higher.

A quick download and play noticed no visible slow down/lag.
So yeah, if you have a specific part it's slowing down on, that'd help.
Can't wait for Heroic Null to meet Captain America. However, story conversations will be tracked as Null having a "reputation" will be very important as he comes across veteran heroes and villains.
The murder my family thing is just a joke I use. It's more about me being a bad team player by not consulting people if I overshare.
But yeah this is why I don't go into specifics on plot as I can build false expectations and pigeonhole the writers.
Still gonna go with them threatening to kill my family because it's funnier.

I really appreciate your technical knowhow.I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's probably not your hardware. Now, will replacing your computer fix it? Sure. In the same way that buying a new car will also replace your car battery.
Here's why. I just played TNH on that old computer on my TV screen. 1920 × 1080. A little slower than my main laptop, but no where near what you described. But still completely playable.
That laptop?

Your CPU is technically a little faster though it does have 2 less cores. And I'm not sure having 2 less cores would affect graphical things.

It is better, but not that much better. Not so much better that it would run smooth while you're lagging 1~3 seconds behind.
Added to that that you are DEFINITELY on a win10 patch that's super slow compare to predecessors (I stopped updating my win10 partition a year+ back because I knew that that the next patch would slow it down) and the fact that it didn't run any different between the on board graphics and the nvidia card. If it was a graphics card issue, the intel would have been MUCH slower. The fact the two aren't any different makes me wonder if your game really is running on the nvidia card at all.
The only outliers is that this didn't happen in the previous versions of the game. There was a change in how RonChon changed the live2D, but I'm not sure how that would have affected the game on your machine this badly. Also, I don't know what can be causing an infinite loop error unless something went really wrong. Maybe there's something going on with your save.
Here are my suggestions.
- Find/get a USB SSD or a flash drive that has like 50GB or more of space and install linux on to that and boot up from that device. Most, if not all, linux distro's can mount NTFS drives just fine. That way, you can test the linux OS and isolate whether or not it's the hardware without doing anything to your win10 parition. Just remember to install the nvidia proprietary drivers on the linux OS.
- I'm attaching one of my save files. Try adding that and removing (as in, move to a different location) the "persistent" file from BOTH save game locations. Maybe there's some code in your save file (pickle) that's causing the problem.
Even if it turns out to be your laptop, you don't have to get rid of it. Turn it into a server. That's why I have old laptops floating around. Turn into a webserver, file server, a media server, a game server, whatever. It really doesn't take much for a machine to be a server. The old machine I was testing with? I have it hooked up to the TV and it has emulators for every console from NES to n64/ps1 as well as mame and dosbox. It also has wine to play windows games and it's capable of running FFXI (I was playing Final Fantasy 11 when WoW was popular).

Stupidity or not, lesson learned. If there's no difference between the intel and the graphics card, you might not be on the graphics card despite what you might think you've selected. And let's face it, pride isn't worth keeping your laptop and getting to play a good game.Guess what? It ran on the intel chipset the whole time. I thought it's using the gpu but it wasn't. Recorded a little video which had 128mb (recorded with ms game-dvr or whatever it's called) and shrinked it down to ~10 MB. This is the usually performance I got with 0.8b1 aswell. Didn't test the sex mini-game, yet.
Yeah, that's the stupid me, live and in action...
There was an error by defaulting the graphics processer in the nvidia panel (which I probably ignored for no reason), that's why it has switched back to the intel chipset, so every time I want to start the game I have to run it with the GPU from the given context menu.
