Yes, but there is something called suspending your sense of disbelief. And there are limits to that, even in fiction and thus you don't get free reign with everything unless you set it up to do what it is you want to do.

I can't take half of RLE seriously for that reason alone, it's very contrived. "But it's a porn game lol you don't take it seriously" is an understandable argument and I agree to some extent in that some sacrifices do need to be made for any sex beyond the most vanilla to happen, but when something makes sense or is somewhat plausible it also enhances the experience of everything else. Porn logic as an excuse is the biggest reason why the vast, vast majority of games on this site have terrible writing, it's tolerated.

Not that this game is free of its own issues, of course. I don't buy Jean's quirk and I don't buy how everyone is fine with us having a harem (though I hypocritically do like it) but outright exhibitionism at school is a far tougher sell. Maybe they could do it but it would need some decent build up from the beginning.

With Zero's dialogue, i can totally buy him getting a harem and being school champ, but with Null? it doesnt work aswell, in my second run doing 1 girl only i can say the game feels much better, since its just about (your) adventures as an X-man with your mutant GF on the side.

What I THINK a major misconception is that people think that TNH is a harem game where the goal is to fuck em all is...well...the goal. It is not. It's a porn game with a story that has an ability to build your harem but it's not the main focus. In RLE it is. There is literally NOTHING to do apart from maxing out your stats with the girls (I'm not saying it's bad just pointing out the focus) that automatically leads to one form of sexual relationship or other.

Big agreement with this. I think part of the issue is that there doesn't currently appear to be much else to do because of the early state of the game, but this will hopefully change as more chapters release. We have the classes and such, but these almost feel like secondary stat trackers at present.

Certainly not without proper motivation, which largely seems to be for better or worse a sort of "Oh. I - and seemingly I alone - can fix them" compulsion. Null seems to love putting broken women back together, and the polyamory is just a byproduct of this rather than the core intent of the character (which is very much my speed on things lmao).

Narratively you're right about null, but gameplay wise it's the same as rle, and not that dissimilar Narratively now that I think about it. It really is just the tone, constantly slaping your hand and saying "NO!" whenever you try anything, which happens in rle as well but it can be bypassed there. I'm also sad to say that null is still a boring grind to raise stats.

Not a knock against RLE but you can ask the girls if you can sleep around, they say no, you do it anyway, and 9 out of 10 times they're too cum addicted to complain that you "cheated" on them.

The internet can be misleading but the vast majority of people, not just women, aren't really too comfortable with polyamory.

Even some of Marvel's worst writers have depicted actions that can be explained as the characters being irrational or stupid yet they'd still seem believable.* In cases where they aren't, they usually retcon to explain why someone was acting like they were not human. Often because they were a Skrull. Lazy? Yes. Logical explanation? Unfortunately for the status quo of Marvel, yes.

I'm also sad to say that null is still a boring grind to raise stats.

We have gutted the system significantly and put several ways to boost your gains and several events with more incoming to boost stats so you can avoid regular flirting to "minmax".

We have even endorsed the well made third party cheat engine that removes the grind and you can skip event text without reading.

Just be honest and say you don't enjoy this kind of gameplay and just want a "sex button."

You see, I have a fundamentally different way of understanding porn games. There's no need to debate it because in the end it's just about tastes, but for me, a porn game is a porn experience first and a "whatever it's trying to be" second.
Personally, I download a porn game to fap to it after a moderate amount of build up to the scene I decide to shoot away, not to read through a fanfic with some sex scene hours into the story. I'm not a comic book fan nor a romance fan, so I can't appreciate whatever they're writing here. I remember someone else here said they liked this game a lot, but didn't get off to it because the sex was bad, or something like that. If this game didn't have smutt in it, there would still be many people playing and liking it, but I wouldn't.

Operating on that logic, I like to separate my fap and non fap sessions, so to speak, with different activities. A porn game could have a really fucking good story and I wouldn't bother reading through it, because that's not what I was looking for when I booted it up.

Bit of a meandering post, sorry. If I had more time I'd write a shorter letter.

The issue (non-issue?) regarding polyamory is simple: it's hard to believe because it's not plausible. It's very rare for someone to not feel bad about someone special for you to also seek or love someone else. An actual polyamorous relation either relies on unhealthy relationship dynamics or extreme trust together with a lack of any sort of feeling of monopolization from partners which is an extremely small minority.

Sure, maybe one or two of the characters are fine with this and just aren't wired in a way to feel the need to have you for themselves. But 3 whole characters? And the soon to come growing cast all fine with a massive harem? No. At that point I just go "eh" and kinda just take it as it goes, really. Still at a level I can suspend disbelief.

The game gives a somewhat ridiculous image that if you just grind out stats girls will eventually say fine which is a bit funny because it sort of implies that people elsewhere just need to love each other more and then they'd be fine with having harems. Which isn't true. Plenty of true loves out there that I don't think would be fine with turning polyamorous after a 2 second chat lol.

I actually agree with salscou that Zero's harem is more sensible, because it comes down to unhealthy relationship dynamics. The dude is an asshole, "addictive cum" or whatever. Kings have a billion concubines because there is a power dynamic going on, whatevs. But TNH is supposed to represent healthy and equal relationships, so that's definitely a no go. Let's not give Null brainwashing abilities lol. I think that's just what it falls down to, people on equal standing just won't really agree to this for the most part. I can only see maybe Rogue in this game saying fine to it since she is very submissive.

I am completely unsure how you would make this more believable, which is completely fine, you've done what you can. You can't make a completely true-to-life game and this is at the end of the day, supposed to be a sort of (power) fantasy for the player, we play games to have what we can't in real life. And I do very much enjoy being able to date all the gals and the interactions at the end of the day, I would not have it any other way tbh. Even if it's not realistic I still far, far prefer having the harem than not.

As for Jean...look man, I'm gonna be honest I just can't take big-sis-little-bro dynamics seriously ever. I can buy Rogue or Laura's stuff as legitimate actual conditions but Jean just seems out of pornhub. I still keep it on because it's funny. That might just be a me issue but if I were a betting man I'd say most people find Jean's quirk less believable than the others even if they're not willing to admit, they just think it's hot. If we want to portray Jean with her feeling of control over us, thinking she deserves Null because we are the new special and she is the original, there are probably more legit ways than "big sis", it just seems such a stretch. Naaah, mutants don't fuck with cops on principle. The IRL allegories are too palpable for me to go into specifics I fear, but they consistently only work with them out of the needs of the moment. VERY few instances of them being wholeheartedly on good terms.

As an aside though - and feel free to call me insane for this suggestion - I actually feel like it's overall too EASY to hookup with the girls at present (Rogue being a bit of an exception due to known circumstances - Null is literally a dream come true for her so it checks out that she'd be emotional putty). Are there any plans to maybe add higher difficulties or ways to change the stat gain amounts to be less "impactful", so to speak? I feel like having more of a long-haul to get through once the game gets bigger will help the payoff of getting to smash feel more earned.
But again, this could easily just be me and my maladaptive sense of immersion speaking.

To be fair it read more as roleplaying from an inexperienced person lol. I dislike incest play so I don't go along with Jean's quirk but this version of Jean is clearly very awkward. The spoiler stuff posted a while ago about Jean's perspective on Null, Xavier and herself is a lot more compelling IMHO.

From everything said, it is intended to work like real polyamory.
That said; Polyamory works however the people involved decide it works. There are closed polycules as well, and sometimes there are allowances for one or* some members to remain open while others do not (specifically referencing a 'cule I'm friends with for this one), but the main point for a PROPER polyamorous group is to maintain open communication about the matter and establish rules that make everyone involved feel the most comfortable and loved.

It would be interesting to include that detail of "I want to be open, so you can too" as it's own particular conversation/setting for partners, but I - and I'm sure the dev team also - fear it would start up a whoooole lot of "tHiS iS cUcKiNg" commentary if it was even remotely implied in game, so....
