All I can say is we're going comic authentic for characters when they first show up. How she develops who knows. She may have a hidden... let's use the word quirk ;)
If she's not getting a raceplay quirk, is she getting something related to the victim complex she had that led to her race-related outbursts?

Its not a victim complex, mutants were very much being targeted at that point in-universe, and being called a mutie is the equivalent of a slur, so she was completely justified in shouting a slur back to put them in a reality check.

If I recall, that specific infamous scene was her being outright threatened by people trying to murder Xavier for being a mutant, so she was throwing it back by outright calling out their hypocrisy and admitting that it's a horrible thing to call people in a whole speech.

Context matters people (please don't tell me that Marvel ruined that).

The only good part of the ultimate universe is when Valkyrie died in ultimatum and Thor goes to Hel to save her soul from Hella. She says she will give him her soul for a price if he can pass her trial by defeating an army of the undead. He agrees and at that moment Captain America shows up because he was kinda dead at the time. So Thor and Captain America are fighting an army of the undead to save the woman Thor loves soul. Metal. As. FUCK.

"Why is Kitty being mean? The world might be mean too, but it isn't that harsh."

The World:
"You're ride is over, mutie. Time to die."

Thanks for the full context.

I was under the impression she was throwing it at a semi-random black guy that was telling her "it's not that bad". That and another scene where she gives a speech and goes down a list of slurs gave me the impression she was to be a "current-time", better outlet for the rightious feeling of (jewish) persecution that Magneto is a dark itteration of.

Nah nah, the context is that she was drawing pararels, specially since at one point a black guy comes to her face and calls her a mutie and she calls him the gamer word back, when the guy gets all offended she gets all like "oh, dont like it huh?".
The joke its not so much Kitty being racist, but Kitty being a loudmouth that will shout abuse at you if you piss her off, hence the joke about playing halo 2 with her and shit talking in the lobby.
