Can someone tell me if I'm supposed to be able to get past this point in the game. No matter how many times I study with her, I can't progress.
Not 100% sure about that one, but you should be able to hover over the optional objectives and it'll tell you where to trigger the event. You'll just need to wait for it and it should then show up in the map just like The_Man_With_No_Name said.

She is actually a very caring person, so much so it hurts. But her life has taught her that showing that you care can and will be weaponized because you only hurt if you care. So it's hard for her to trust too. The "diamond form" is pretty symbolic of her.
It takes a long time for that side of her to come out in the comics (actual decades), and it takes the loss of her entire team for her to truly realise just how wrong her life path has been.

Then, when she finally vows to turn her life around, they split her and Jubelee into another side comic.

Yes, I know there are probably fans of Generation X, and the stories might be good, but it is impossible to keep track of and character development and relationships outright pause until the characters get wrangled back from other writers. Where I stopped in Uncanny X-Men, Kitty and Kurt are with Excalibur, and man is their absence felt.

Anyway, ignoring my rant, it'll be interesting to see how Emma's and Null's relationship plays out here, as it will definitely start out antagonistic with the events of the Dark Phoenix/ Hellfire arc, leaving little time for anything cordial to develop unless things are spread out more. Afterwards, though, depending on the mind swap story being adapted or not, Emma and Null could probably interact. It'll probably be for selfish reasons on both ends initially, but probably end up with a more cordial relationship as they talk and connect, especially as Emma can't mind-control Null, which probably helps with forming an actual connection to someone from her end.

In reality it was like 2-4 years in universe.

Meeting a nice young man like Null in chapter 2 who ends up playing a crucial role in beating up her rivals in the Hellfire Club will likely give him a foot in the door.
I meant IRL time (though even that was just 15 years), but fair enough.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how Null's influence changes Emma and the various plots she is involved with going forward, so I am looking forward to what you have planned and how Emma's current villainous nature influences how she approaches Null.
No greater show of goodwill and bonding for a gal like Emma than squishing people that are in her way that she doesn't like.
Especially at this stage in her life, though in the comic, she and the rest of the Hellfire Club tried to get revenge by mind-swapping Frost with Storm and forcing Kitty to attend the Massachusetts Academy. I imagine here that is not going to happen with Emma being a love interest and potential loyalty to the Hellfire Club being a bit weaker, though, using Kitty's potential transfer to the Massachusetts Academy as a means to lure in Null to a face-to-face meeting does seem like something she'd do at this point.

I mean, she doesn't even like them much. So yeah, "loyalty" doesn't run terribly deep. It's aligned interests.

But yeah my silliness with the particular word aside, I get what you mean, her ties in general will probably be weaker.

So...Emma being from old money in Boston, would actually make her one of the Boston Brahmin. The term was coined by Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr in the 1860s by looking at the Brahmin, the highest caste in the Hindu caste system. Basically Boston Brahmin are the closest the US ever got to aristocracy and represents the descendants of the first families who settled in the US from England.

The Boston Brahmin accent would probably be quite similar to Received Pronunciation. If Emma was to sound like a real life person, the closest I can think of would be Kyra Sedgwick, or a toned down version of Katherine Hepburn's Mid-Atlantic accent.

I think the main reason she will probably be more amicable despite those weakened ties is that she thinks there is an opportunity in Null, despite it being a gamble he would even give her the time of day after Dark Phoenix. It'd also be a massive gamble on her part, as since none of her powers work on Null, she'd be physically vulnerable, though she could gain technological means like with the mind swap gun.

Without that interest, however, things would probably proceed like they did in the main canon.

Probably going to get real frustrated that she can't tell Null's intentions, especially if he's heroic and she just can't tell if it's genuine or not. Combine that with developing actual feelings for Null despite her best attempts not to, and there is a lot of potential for flustered Emma.
I'm curious if this means she won't be added in officially
Considering the number of sprites she has, she probably will, but I doubt she'll be hanging around the mansion, and Null will actually need to go to her to pursue her plot.

I love it. Null being an honest broker and Emma fuming because she can't tell if it's a con.
Emma's big power player world of soft power and connections isn't used to things like that.
Combine that with developing actual feelings for Null despite her best attempts not to, and there is a lot of potential for flustered Emma.
Perfect.

Agreed. She will be a unique case. She wouldn't want it any other way.

Welp... this is going to make my next Emma run in RLE very awkward.

Thank god my cousins don't have the Boston accent.
I've always had a mental image that her immaculate presentation and probably transatlantic accent are a pure affectation, and she's secretly just a complete hot mess. She puts effort in because of her ego, but she puts psychic effort into making herself look flawless and sexy even when she's secretly wearing ratty sweats and her hair's mussed, and that snooty "20s actress" accent she puts on slips a little every now and again as she fucks it up, sometimes into a faux-RP, other times into Jennifer Jason Leigh's accent from Hudsucker Proxy.

The kind of person who has every room in her lavish home look like something out of a magazine, but that's because it is and she never actually uses any of it. The room she actually uses and never shows anyone has thick carpeting, a plush and worn sofa, a wine bar, and a bookshelf crammed with trashy bodice rippers and Audrey Hepburn movies. Basically, just taking her psychic whammies to their logical conclusion and having everything about her be an illusion or bullshit because she's constantly trying to hold herself out there as so aloof and separate. The idea that she might not need to lie doesn't even occur to her, because her pride and ego won't allow it.

You were right, it says to go to the girls' hallway while Jean is studying in her room. The thing is I just tried it numerous times and still nothing. I think it's just bugged for me or maybe I'm on an old save that's not compatible with the current build.
