The artwork and idea keeps bringing me to try again, I really want this game to work, but the beginning is just... so.. broken..
If you start from the beginning (as I think most do until they've gotten very far in the game) you get three paths for the wife, all of them involving her being a bit.. promiscuous. And then within moments she's flirting with and presumably doing 'more' with a few guys. Great, fun.
Then sandbox play starts and you start talking about starting a furniture shop, you wonder around exploring, and suddenly you're asking her dad to start an inn. (Wait, when did you decide to start an inn? Thought you were doing furniture? Oh, you can't opt out now either, this is happening, ok). And then something happens that you can't avoid (I mean, I wouldn't avoid it, but just saying). While waiting for your wife to 'go out' she comes in from the market laughing and with some 'stuff' on her and jokes about it with you. Keep in mind right now she's super angry waiting to go out to something really bad. Then she does and you have a day or so of trying to figure out how to pass time (literally, there's nothing for you to do)... and then she gets back in a bad state. Super angry.. and you go in the livingroom and she's laughing and joking with your dad and you. And then you go talk to her and she's again super-angry.. and you're trying to talk her into being a barmaid (so we are doing a barmaid thing I guess?)...
Keeping in mind that as angry as she is through all this you got to pick starts for her, all of which involved her having a Lot more life experience (including her dad's involvement), so none of what happens should be new to her.
And this is the intro. And I gotta tell you, I just can't suspend disbelief enough to try and continue, artwork or not. If a game can't get its intro right - both the first thing anyone sees and arguably the point in the game that has the least possible complexity... I can't. *sigh* I'll look again when the changelog says "And we made sure the first 1hr of gameplay is solid"
