I got a message from someone yesterday that raised a couple of points I thought were worth addressing to a wider audience, rather than replying just to him.
The first was about a discrepancy on the day of Cassie's birthday. Lois would comment on you having a thing for screwing girls on their birthdays, which didn't make sense if you hadn't shagged Kayla after the fourth of July party. So I will add some conditional text and vary that as needed.
Basically, if you fuck Kayla, she gets pregnant. It was a deliberate decision based on the fallacy that "if I pull out, she won't get pregnant".
Kayla will continue, as will Rei. They're mostly in the game for comedic effect and as catalysts for other things, like when they comment on rumours about Lois fucking Tim or not having her bikini bottom on. I recently added the water cooler chats as another means to the same end.
The same person also asked about whether it was a realistic proposition to not be involved with Kari or follow the having kids with the sisters path. From the outset I intended that Kari would be the main love interest. She's 100% my creation and I obviously think she's lovely but there are people who don't seem to think "she's all that".
So I've actually played through the game without dating Kari several times recently and found some discrepancies that arise from that, and I'm working on resolving those.
Some of you may remember a big fuss about the storyline with Randy early on. There were all sorts of accusations of NTR, Kari was a fucking whore, etc, etc.
The idea that she would be unfaithful was NOT the intention of the storyline, it was to introduce Randy as this predatory character who took advantage of the girls who worked under him. Anyway, some of the reactions were so over-the-top that I caved to the pressure and wrapped it up faster than originally intended.
I kind of regretted that in retrospect and brought Randy back to kidnap Cassie and stab MC, and now it seems he's on the loose again!
Anyway, as a riposte to the haters, there is (or will be) a corruption path for Kari for those who've chosen not to get romantically involved with her.
I've also had negative feedback about the "dark paths" for Lois and Kiki, and I have to admit that the handling of those was somewhat clumsy, seeming to come out of nowhere and being inconsistent with MC's past behaviour.
But I do want to keep those options, although I'm doing my best to make it easier for people to avoid them if that's not to their taste.
There are a couple of reasons for that. One is that there are is are a number of people who do want the "darker" content and, to be honest, several of those have contributed generously at a difficult time (with no work coming in because of the writers and actors being on strike).
But the other thing, as many actors will tell you, is that sometimes it's more fun to play the bad guy, especially if they're being cast against type.
So while I do plan to continue to provide a wide range of ways to play, I'll also pay more attention to keeping things consistent.
I got interrupted while I was drafting this. I know there was something else I wanted to mention, but can't think for the life of me what it was! I guess it can't have been that important!
