I cannot stress enough, those corruption games especially.
I hate it when a game has a concept of making choices, but just because I made one choice thats against incest(which I hate),etc... from that choice on I can-never have enough corruption to choose sexy choices later, seriously just because (if female protagonist) I rejected my fathers advances I cannot sleep with my neighbor the next day because I lack corruption, that is STUPID.
Gonna take a digression here to gush about a game that does choices really well. Casual Desires makes it so that practically every sexual encounter is optional, so it's your call to make whether the female MC is a one-girl lesbian, a girl who gets around with every man she sees, or someone who (surprisingly) can remain virginal in the face of all the sex around her.
Yup, that's pretty much it. The 'ideal' woman in Japan is 'pure', 'naive', innocent', 'reserved', 'demure', and 'chaste' (seiso). So if she sounds like she's enjoying sex, she's not 'seiso', so not desirable. It's why they're always screaming 'no' when they're about to cum, as if it's a bad thing that's happening. It's honestly such a turn-off for me, I wish there were at least a *few* Japanese games/porn films where the actresses weren't sounding like they were being murdered instead of fucked.
Japan got the workforce liberation but not the sexual liberation of women, if their pop culture is to be believed. (It's more complex than that, of course, but a lot of adult Japanese media is based around transgression of taboo anyway.)

  • Female characters who will cheat on their husbands because said husbands have small cocks.
  • MCs whose only source of attraction is their big penises.
  • Male characters who are the MCs antagonists, are assholes and, of course, posses little cocks.

Now, I get the aesthetic of a larger than average penis, I do. The protagonist in my own game is well endowed, there is no problem with big cocks in porn. What makes me dislike a game is when the big cock becomes a driving force in the game, a constant symbol of the MCs superiority over all other males and an endless source of attraction to all females. This is not an aesthetic decision, this is lazy writing.

1. Unskippable repetitive random events. For the love of god, add a tracking variable and/or allow players to skip an already seen scene.

2. Sleep molestation. Crosses a line for me.

3. The obligatory shower peek scene. Yes, women are generally naked when they're showering. But there might be other ways to add an early nude scene.

4. Linear stat grinds based on repeated scenes. Similar to 1, this annoys the fuck out of me.

5. Free roam sandboxes without some kind of map. No, I don't want to repeat the "bedroom, bathroom, hallway, kitchen, street, school" loop every day.

6. Misunderstood BDSM. BDSM is more than just light bondage and spanking.

7. Energy meters. Just lazy and unimaginative game design in my opinion.

8. Incest. Alright, here I gotta explain myself: Some incest / "landlady" games are actually kinda neat, e.g. Sisterly Lust was one of the games that actually got me into the porn game rabbit hole, even though it's extremely "tropey". But once you've played the few good ones, the scenario gets stale fast. I wish there were more games with MCs that lead an actual adult life. You know, having a job, going on dates, that kind of stuff. But maybe I'm just getting too old for the incest setting, idk.

Related to all these dick complaints but not same:

The exact same models and textures for every single set of genitals on both male and female.

For men its always the same daz "dickinator", no real variety.

For women I dont know the daz asset name but it always looks the same, same silly uniform bump map that looks robotic.
In the real world dicks and vags look completely different person to person.

Also, lazy genital animations that make "throwing a hotdog down a hallway" look like a reality, not just an expression.

Many comments has already touched on many of my grievances. But, one of things that I truly dislike is:

Retarded MC trope. It happens a lot in RPGM games, especially with a female lead. I remember a game where some bad guys threatened another woman, and the MC was like "Wait, let her go. Take me instead". The bad guys knew where the other woman lived.. It literally only saved her for one day or so.

Overly innocent MC that is like "No I don't understand why the old man wants me to sit on his lap. Huh, I wonder what is poking me.. Probably just some stick".

Stories that makes no sense: This goes for so many games of all engines. It probably comes down to most adult games devs not really being great at writing a story. Their starting point is probably "I have this porn, how do I put a story into that". Doing it the other way around obviously makes for a better story.

Unskippable mini games or excessive grind. At no point in the game should I be frustrated by a minigame that is difficult to beat unless there is an option to skip it and get the same reward as winning the mini game. At no point in the game should I be bored because I'm repetitively doing the same thing over and over again with little to no progression in the story. Games are supposed to be fun, not frustrating.

The one exception I would make for a mini game would be some kind of a fight. If your game focuses on the player engaging in combat then it's fine for some of that combat to be difficult. The challenge of beating a difficult opponent is actually fun (for me at least). In an adult game I still think there should basically be an auto win function for that though unless your game is really focused around combat. If the game's focus is combat then it doesn't make much sense to play it if you don't like combat.

Ancient design standards and people doing the bare minimum the engine allows and releasing the shitpile asap.

Rpgm: Why yes an rpgm xp game with bad koikatsu models, no quest log, hold down shift to run and no window size controls is indeed a game, but the tools exist to make something better. If you do use newer versions make sure to guide the player as much as possible.

Renpy: Yes big brother was neat, it doesn't mean you have to add stat grind or obscure what the player needs to do next to increase gameplay hours in your title. If you got room icons, show where the characters are. If theres interactable objects on the screen add a button to highlight them, allow player select dialogue options with number keys so you dont have to use a mouse.

QSP/rags games: Just dont.

Html games: make the UI not suck. Dont make media take up the entire screen. Dont force the player to scroll down all the fucking time because nothing about the UI works in favor of the player. You can fit everything relevant visible so that player can read it without scrolling for a tiny moment.

Unity/unreal: Implement basic renpy features on 1st release like saves, fps cap, text speed/text skip functions. Or just use renpy instead for your vn with zero interaction.

Scenario in the style of player in a house with mom, "peek at her ass" being the first choice in a game resulting in + 1 corruption point and theres only scenes for corruption route. That ship has thoroughly been sailed already, its boring predictable and shit.

The keys needed to interface with the game have been standardized. Dont deviate from them.

I am annoyed by very little realism in game story, characters' appearance, characters' behavior, relationships, etc. I am tired of games where every female jumps immediately on MC's dick or there is no logic in their behavior. There is no tension building at all and in effect - no satisfaction when sex scene finally happens. I am tired of games where poor story exists only to serve sex scenes.

That goddamn hands-forming-a-heart pose that every half-assed das3d game has to use at least once for the female characters. Cringe factor 10 when it's a male. Who does this? Maybe it's common in Japan or Korea? But I've not once in my life seen a girl anywhere else in the world make this pose even once. Not cute. Not sexy. Just tiring. I'm assuming it's a Das default or something. Peace signs a far-away second. Unless your game is based in the 60's, just don't.

Misused game engines

Like, every second game on rpgm is already using koikatsu and daz cg's, but many of them don't get any benefit from not using ren'py. You still get your average indie adult visual novel but with more running around and without an option to skip or save mid conversation.
Same goes to some Ren'py and unity games, although it's more rare. If your game suppose to have many inventory management, fighting and exploring why bother trying to adjust this engines for your needs if same old rpgm already have it all working, making quick balancing there is also way easier.

Basically any game where you have some stat and either you get all the +1s in that stat and get all the good scenes, or all the -1s in that stat and get all the bad scenes. It's the illusion of choice: once you've picked your path that first time, every decision afterwards is made for you and deviating from either choosing all the +1s or all the -1s just locks you out of content for no benefit.

Seriously, just give me one choice at the start that locks me into a path, and make all the rest not matter.
