Excellent writing and renders that lead to a realistic and immersive environment for us to enjoy. Every character is different and has clear depth behind them without everything becoming too cluttered or overwhelming. Almost all girls have a different build and personality and provide us with plenty of options but doesn't forcefully push us to be with one over everyone else.

Pacing is solid and nothing happens without requisite and appropriate causation. It's as realistic as we would imagine a situation in this time period to be

Only nitpick for the sake nitpicking is how unremarkable normal and average the MC is. Lol. He looks a bit derpy at times with no distinguishing characteristics and a dong that's pretty damn small. Again, not complaining but just how I've always seen him

Rewieving To Be A King as v0.5.1

I've searched A LOT for historical or semi historical/fantasy NVs and i found IT. It was definetly an awesome experience.

Story - 5/5. Mathematically speaking i can't give TBAK more then 5. But it deserves a freakin 10 out of 5. Literally speaking it was the most wonderful journey i ever had. Story has a detective vibe to it so i've played and playedjust to know HOW IT WILL END. I guess i don't need to say that the most dissapointing moment was "End of current version"

Atmosphere - 5/5. I actually believed that it could be happened in our reality (well there were a couple of moments when atmosphere was ruined by dev, but i understand why he did this)

Music - 5/5. Simply AWESOME. Caught myself couple of times just relaxing on a single scene listening to music. It perfectly fits to every scene. If scene needs some heavy shit (not metal xD) game gives you heavy shit, if scene will be better with some light violin - here you go

Renders - 5/5. Not really TOP quality but just well made

Girls - 5/5. Well writen characters, good looking and different girls, whom you can combine to your harem or you can go for all of them! (Which i actually don't recommend, reason below)

Near the middle of game i caught myself on thought. There are A LOT of H scenes (well made though!) There are so much of them so scenes actually don't let me enjoy story fully. So i went to the new PT with way less girls. Which lead as to next

Replayability - 5/5. I didn't expect THAT MUCH difference between first and second PT. I had more complex scenes on single routes and really different dialogues. Plesantly surprised! I suppose you'll need at least 5 PT's to see all content, maybe more (but i can be wrong)

Well, now to CONS. There are 0 animation... And that's probably all of them XD

If you're looking for an medieval style game or just a game interesting to read you really should give it a try.

I am a sucker for anything Medieval.

The story is a bit game of thrones, the politics plot of the Witcher TV series, and good old fashioned history. Though in the newest release (V0.5.1) it begins to be very disjointed. A scene happens, then a black screen, then your in the next scene. It feels like there is less of a flow to the story. It's like listing to someone recount events. This happened, then this happened, and then this happened. The inbetween is just as important in a story as the main plot is.

The King and Queen seem to have too much of a soft spot for the MC through, none of this would fly in a royal family. The only son and heir to the throne is an obvious cockwaffle ala Joffrey from GOT. Personally, as the game wares on, I can't stand two of the princess'.

The renders are nice. The MC actually has an average sized member which is shocking to say the least. I'm used to feeling inadequate next to these 16 inch dongs. The MC is also unremarkable in features and easily the least attractive male character of any significance. Dude is lacking the jawline. The models also have a bad case of heroin nail beds: unusually brown. The female models are nicely done.

Its a good game. The flow of the story needs a bit of work but that can be fixed. Thus far there is no overt or implied incest that I can remember. It's good, but it's missing something to put t over the edge. Play it if you have a few hours.

In my eyes there are three types of games on this site: bad games, good porn games and good games with porn in them. This game falls into the later category. While it contains a lot of sexy scenes, the primary reason I like it is because of its story, characters and setting. The fact that there are lewd scenes spread throughout its story is just a bonus.
This game is one of the few on this site that I'm actively looking forward to playing after each update. Thus: 5 stars from me

This is a fun game. Story and characters are engaging. Writing seems good. Girls and renders are beautiful. Lewd scenes are arousing and hot. Choices are influence the relationship with girls. I'm looking forward to ne updates in the future.

Beautiful girls. Nice choices and variations. Good writing, good setting that is semi believable to help in ~immersion~. Definitely one of the most underrated gems here. The last update added different stats as well, which I am sure will come into play later giving the player more options about how to approach different situations.

Pretty good renders, altough genitalia looks pretty wierd and so do some of the renders during sex.
Story is decent enough and so is the dialogue this makes for a quite enjoyable game at times but im utterly amazed at how stupid the mc is, he could not detect or uncover a plot even if it was staring him in the face.
The characters while being somewhat thought through feel pretty off at times, Like how every female wants to jump your bones after exchanging afew words.
Back to the story and the mc; It's pretty aparent who cant be trusted and what actions could be taken to ensure some of the dramas didnt occur, just some pretty sad plotholes.
If the player can figure out what's going on surely the mc should be able to have half a clue.
I've just played up until the point of Cassie's "dissaperance" this and all event that shows the undeniable incompitence of a supposed great general and royal guard/head of security is just such a facepalm, and there been quite afew sofar..
I guess that doesnt get better with no meaningful choices and the game being structured more like a kinetic novel then anything else, leaving you feeling like the most unsuitable man for your position in the kingdom.
At this point I just wonder if the king would find a gorilla a suitable advisor just because it is strong..

This leaves me wishing for alittle better writing or less apparent villains atleast shrouded in some mystery.
Some upgrade to render details , Its kinda wierd when all anuses look broken and the dicks made out of dried clay.
But most of all, give the player meaningful chioces to combat/prevent certain events or at the very least write less obvious and preventable events.
But all in all a decent game that could become a great one with some polishing!
I hope this comes off its "onhold" status and resumes development soon, Best of luck to the developer.

Edit after v0.5.1, all of the above still applies with some aspects becoming somewhat worse.
The story while still being interesting has major plotholes and with the latest update the jumping in both time and place makes it feel more dislodged then before and some dialogues seem to disregard previous choices and events that occured and therefore feel quite random and out of place.
Another thing that struck me and out of place and random was the whole sequence with the goddess or more specifically the wierd "helper" that does not fit the genre whatsoever.
Im still not sure of that was a dream pr not even though the dialogue seemed insistant that it was not the scene started by a time and place jump from your bed and ended in anoter such jump, might just be confused but that felt like a dream sequence more then anything.

Despite lacking in many aspects I do however have one big compliment about the update and that was its lenght, altough I would not mind waiting longer for a more coherent way of further unraveling the story and traveling between scenes.

My previous rating of 3 stars will still stand for now, however another such update will likely see it lowered.

Can't get much more male power fantasy than this. Gorgeous girls fall for the MC just because, w/o much justification or build up; the protagonist has the full trust and admiration of his King and allies, as well as undisguised jealousy of his enemies.

The girls are, indeed, gorgeous and renders are well done, could benefit from animations, but its lack doesn't harm the game in any way. The world build doesn't go too deep, but it's good enough.

Love this story, makes you really feel like being in a Excalibur Movie.
Makes it hard to decide who to screw first with all those good looking ladies.
The Game Pace is good,the story is great, without getting to bored with the reading.

To Be A King is an interesting case as far as erotic VN's go. Usually in these types of games the adult scenes are very good and the overarching plot is a tool to get from one lewd scene to the next.

In this case, it's almost inverted: the narrative and setting are very well done. No grammar or spelling errors either. However, as soon as we get to the lewd parts, (which can happen way too sudden already) the game just shows us la couple of lewd pictures without anything else, be it text or animations.

Animations are not required, but what would help the sex scenes in this VN is some dirty/sweet talk to go with the renders. Even something as basic as "do you like the feel of my hands on your big cock" would go a long way. "

Overall i'd give this game 3,5 stars out of 5 stars if i could,. The presentation, engaging narrative, beautiful renders and the potential of this game make me round up rather than down

- The least interesting way to implement lewd scenes, is the way this VN chose to implement them.

Surprisingly well made game. Story is good, if a bit incosequential for now - MC is doing anything but his job, and than is surprised that shit happened. He is so incompetent it is funny.

Otherwise, it is good. Story is intriguing, characters renders are nice. Girls are way too easy, but this is catholic schoolgirl sindrome, so nothing unrealistic. Overall - nice, has good potential.

So far the game is pretty good. The historical setting is excellent, the story is very interesting, the visuals are pretty good. And the best thing so far is that it gets updated very fast! If this continue I may consider supporting them on Patreon.

Alright game but not much more than that at this stage (0.3.1)

+ The renders are great and the girls are all very hot.
+ Story is engaging.
+ Decent, fitting music.

- Sex scenes have no animation and weak dialogue, no real excitement.
- No buildup or anticipation to sex with 3/4 of the main girls.
- Although the story is decent there are also quite major parts which don't make much sense and detract from the immersion. Pacing/order of events feels off.

Overall worth a play if you have time to kill but nothing to write home about, yet.

Interesting plot so far with a nice variety of characters. Attractive women. Sex scenes are okay, but the emotional buildup into the sex scenes is a little fast.

Hard to say too much that isn't going to spoil the plot of the game or isn't mentioned in the summary already so I'll leave it at that.

Interesting plot. Good renders. No animations for the sex scenes, but sexy renders. Suspenseful enough to make me want to come back. The character development of the male palace apparatchiks is just right to keep their motivations secret for the moment. Much better grammar and spelling than most games on this site. Good job, developer!

This game has decent plot. Its not your typical excuse for dumb porn. Writing is good.
You are playing as general who is put in charge of kings safety. There were some assassination attempts at king's life. One of the perks of the job is that you will spend a lot of time with princesses (wink).

Art: 5/5
+ Girls are really hot.
+ Renders are good. Lightning of images is good. Author really did a good job.
- Only downside is main character. Sometimes he looks a bit weird. Sometimes he looks older, sometimes he looks younger. At least you wont see his face often.

Gameplay: 3/5
Its your typical straighforward VN with some choices. So far choices affect your romance options (date the girl or not) and some variables that may prove to be usefull later in game. Game is still early in development so who knows how usefull it will be.

To sum it up:
Game is still early in development, but it has great potential. So far I really liked the game. It has around 1 hour and 30mins of content and I really enjoyed it. You should definitely check it out and follow its development.

Just finished playing this games (update 0.2) and what can I say:

Lovely female models and that includes the MILF queen.
Dev's writing is good and at the moment is giving some nice background story.
Love the interaction with the MC and the females and it is clear to see each female has their own personality.
Renders are nice and clear which is fantastic (just hate low resolution or grainy renders)

Now for the slightly bad points:

MC model is not that handsome but all the females think he is so handsome.
Sex scenes need to be a little longer and is missing the animation that so many other games are including in AVN's these days.

Overall, I am enjoying this game and look forward to the next update - only gave 4 stars because of the bad points listed above but had this included a more handsome MC and included animation then this would have easily get 5 stars (more if that could be possible).

I forgot to give my personal feedback to the game after i played it so here you go:

Pros:
- great quality
- love the face of the youngest girl but my fav are the daughter (widow) of the lord and the oldest princess - very lovely
- the UI looks and feeld professional (menu, mainscreen etc)
- well written
- sex
- sweet scenario

Cons:
- sometimes too much text (but i guess it has to be to built up the story)
- the two younger princesses could be a bit curvier
- i hoped to play the old guy in the thumbnail but i play a middle age officer :/
- no incest?
- sex scenes are decent but could be better (with maybe more options and longer scenes)
- the middle girl looks like the average girl from other porngames who looks quite sexy (and here in good quality) but still a bit too average for my personal taste
- again no old male protag and instead a handsome middle age man


=> i also hope there will be more options later, cause the construct of the game and the render quality looks and feels professional, i am just not a fan of the protagonist and that the youngest girl has no curves primary.

but it has potential nonetheless and that primary my personal opinion but i love the scenario even i hoped for a hidden incest game. So atm its a 3.5 for me with potential for a higher rating but 5 stars would be a lie at least for me at this early stage

Really love it. Good rendering, good story, beautiful women. Love it when it a game is about a topic I enjoy. Especially when there's more emphasis placed on the story and not the sex. A story that's not predictable, and keeps it real by making me wonder what I would do with some of these choices. Keep going, can't wait for more.

Reviewing version 0.1, I'll start with some good and bad points.

Good
- Dialogue is very well written
- The characters are beautiful and unique
- For the first release theres a decent amount of content and a good story foundation which can be built on in future releases.

Bad
- There isn't really anything that stood out as being "bad" except the sex scenes are very short. But as this is the first version i'm sure they'll be better and longer in the future.

This game has started off pretty good and i'll definitely be keeping an eye out for future releases.
