Long hair is almost always hotter. Unfortunately, hair physics in VNs can be a problem, so we end up with lots of ponytails (not so bad) and crops.Why does Mary-Sue and Cheyenne look hotter with longer hair than they have in the game?
Now, if one girl had a ponytail, and one of the others was on her back hanging onto it and holding a riding crop....

Yeah hair physics are almost always horrible. And I can't imagine they are easy to pose or code for. Actually I can imagine they are quite the pain to code and pose the models for, between clipping and strange bending which is what we often see. So I absolutely understand making the hair shorter when dealing with characters that would be more active.
That said, I do see the ponytails as being fun too.
