Hi,

There are a lot of things and a lot of ideas. That means there is something to choose from, there is no case where you have only a few games to choose from. Diversity and competition are the keys to evolve into something better. Look at the major companies that are producing games. You can barely pick a good game because they have the majority of the market.

Can you imagine a world where there would be only twenty movies?

I don't know what "the golden era" would mean in this context, but as "back then" I meant at least 8-10 years ago. The times before Patreon and Kickstarter become so huge.
I feel that the golden days of games are gone, it was the time of BB, DMD and Dreams of Desire...
You might be right, but the stuff he is talking about was after the era you are talking about. Yeah, maybe you had to buy some Daz assets, but all these games had access to the same tools everybody else has today.

Back at the end of 2000s, even modding was a rather closed scene. Sure, there were people who made textures, but very few modders were able to make meshes, even less knew how to make animations, or change parts of the game code. There weren't widely available tools for it, and the knowledge was also missing. And that's just modding, which is far from creating a whole game.
Lately you have everything at your disposal. Animation software, character modells, tonns of assets... In 2010 if you had the story, but didn't know how to draw, or code, you needed at least an artist and a coder to help you with creating your game.
Now you really have everything. You need pictures, you learn DAZ on a basic level from YouTube tutorials, and you make them. You need some things changed in Ren'Py to match your idea, you code it. It needs such basic level coding that can be learned by anyone in a very short notice. Back then it would've taken a very long time to learn everything that's needed to create a game on your own, then you had to produce much more content for it. Now you need to learn much less, and even the production is quicker, as you get many-many things ready to use.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that creating a quality game doesn't take devotion, and talent anymore. I'm just saying it used to be super hard, and now it's easier (but still not easy).
That makes it sound like the "golden era" was full of quality games, but as far as I remember most of the games back in the 2k didn't even have a good Story. Most of them where simple Flash games or undress games. The big Players in the market, like Illusion had some high quality poligon models for that time but the story...? Also there wheren't many Genres or diversity in games unless you delved really deep into the Internet.
Some things obviously changed to the better.
Btw some guys who did modding stuff previously just went on to make games nowadays ;)

Well, it would be much easier to choose which one to watch. ;) And it's exactly the same with games. I definitely don't want to live in a world with only twenty of them, but if it was like that, it couldn't happen that I spend hours choosing the right game and end with disappointment when I just don't find it (I know it's my fault, I've become spoiled, so I'm not really complaining).

Quality adult VNs were in those times. Though it's true, much less than now, and the majority of them literally were hentai (I was never into that art style, so I read very few, but those were good) but the quality VN, shitty VN ratio was higher. About the diversity of games I won't argue, I said it earlier it's much better now.

Im sad and tired of seeing new games beeing launched eveyday, since last year we have a shitload of V1s and none to little games get finished. Eveyday the lastest update page is filled with V1s and Demos its like someone figured the golden goose and its trying to cash on. I feel that the golden days of games are gone, it was the time of BB, DMD and Dreams of Desire... Now its just a handfull of nothing, games that will disapear in V3 or V4 the most.
Welcome to the wonderful world of an Amateur Developer Driven Market... With the advent of sites like Patreon and it's ilk, sprinkled with a little greed, add in a pinch of riding coat tails, blended with a spoon of unoriginality, boiled over the coals of shear numbers, and you get a market flooded with lots and lots of starters, demo's, and proofs of concept... A few will do well, some will milk ya, many will do so-so to alright, and even more will eventually fade away... It's been going on for several years now, so it's really nothing new... For peeps who've been playing/reading these things for a while, they'll tell ya, it's just how this niche market of the erotic/adult/porn industry functions... Will it change anytime soon? Probably not by much... But only time will tell, as it goes up and down, like waves on the ocean...
