I'll start off with the good: There was a decent amount of content I personally enjoy (stuff at home).
Now for the bad from my POV:
Context: The tag of "rape" was added to the game as of chapter 3, unbeknownst to me, as it was not added to the game tags yet.
Sheesh, I was not expecting the unavoidable rape of our protagonist. Don't even get me started on how that was a scene that kept going on and probably hit some kind of world record for how much it dragged on, (and I mean the scene was actually really long, not just because I personally disliked it and as such "dragged on").
It was so odd how it was trying to make the rape seem less bad, while trying to keep the tone of "but obviously this is not okay". It was super distasteful, and honestly, although I soldiered on and finished the rest of the update... I was so put off by the whole thing that I am unlikely to play this again. Maybe by the next update I'd have washed it from my brain, and I'd be able to play again (assuming that's the limit of that tag).
And the weird Stockholm Syndrome that was written in for the protagonist regarding the rape, too! I swear I almost felt violated myself by proxy.
I am aware there was an option at the start to get to choose if you see scenes or not, but I don't think that works as a catch-all. Certainly not when it specifies everything still happens no matter what. I'd agree it would work if it changed scenes canonically.
Like mentioned, the rape tag was missing and none of the content in chapter 1-2 implied any such content would be part of the game. No foreshadowing or anything.
Anyway, just a little rant and just my personal opinion obviously. But do be warned if you don't enjoy that kind of content, it was a huge deal in the game and it kept being brought up over and over.
Maaaan I feel you sooooo much, look :
If i think abt it, there's smt that I find kind of sad in this update. It's the "rape scene". I was kinda "ok" with it bc I thought that the MC and her would make up and become "lovers" in this same update. Yk heal each others wounds. I mean it wasn't the scene in itself that bugged, it's more the fact that we didn't get that and her redemption arc in one go. I was like, oh ok it begins savage and it ends sweet, sadly I didn't get the sweetness I needed to balance the sour part lol. That's what I found frustrating but Ig it's ok now that I've cooled off lol
Hope we'll get to see that in the next update.
I'll try to make it short.
I felt the same as you when watching the scene the 1st time, I was disgusted. Btw, you rly hit the nail on the head with your proxy comparaison, that's exactly how I felt. But I have to admit that, giving it back to her was a bit satisfying BC SHE LIKED IT.
However, now that some time has passed since I played it. If we delve into the context of the story, it's a medieval world. This kind of things happened way more often than they'd now (atleast I'd like to believe so). The girl who
raped us was prbbly
raped herself, I won't even talk abt how she was prbbly enslaved by humans as well (it's all a theory but from how much she hates humans Ig as much lol)...
I'll tell you why I think it could have been a "cool scene" if we look at it on a bigger scale. That scene kinda symbolizes the vicious cycle of hate/war...
You hurt me then I'll hurt you, you hate me then I'll hate you, you killed smn I love, then I'll do the same too etc etc...
It's such a pervert cycle rly hard to end, bc it's hard for both parties to forgive what's done even thought it prbbly began with no hate and just an order, or a jerk who passed by and began this whole mess (If you didn't get it I'm talking abt the whole thing generally).
In our case, she was raped by humans prbbly, so she raped us, then we "raped" her. She hated us then we hated her...
Smn need to put a stop bc it'll not end in a happy ending if it continues.
I think you get me, well that's exactly what happened during that scene and like I said in that comment. I think the major mistake the dev did is not including her redemption arc in the same update. Like c'mon if you hit us that hard with smt, you gotta balance things out lol.
I don't think I've seen this game offer multiple paths, but I'd personally make 2 paths. One where we don't forgive her to satisfy those who rly can't find in them the strength to do so. And, another one where we forgive, heal and end that cycle (I have to admit I'd personally like it if we still get to have the upper hand on her if we forgive her being a dom feels good lol, so yeah maybe make it 2 path in the forgiveness path dom/sub or even 3 with one of them being a switch path : switch/dom/sub).
I like that the author took a risk with this, like you need to sometimes make your characters go through things to make them grow. The only bad point is that he didn't make it to the END. That left a lot of us frustrated I think. I hope the dev will remember this if he ever plans to make a similar scene in term of controversy lol.
I hope I helped come to terms with it a bit.
