I'm glad people feel distressed and threatened by Karen (even though some people say it as a complaint, ha!). This is intentional, and even if she doesn't match your kinks, I'd like to believe it adds a sort of gameplay thrill in the same way that Lu Bu busting out the gates in Dynasty Warriors used to.
That said, I'm actually a big softie so I sympathize with not wanting anything bad to happen to the Monks (and dialed the endings way back from Bo's original drafts, which were borderline depression-porn). Hopefully the balance changes will make the task of saving them less daunting.
Please understand that when you work on something for so long, many non-obvious aspects of it become second nature, which caused Bo and I to overlook a lot of hints and telegraphy (sorry). I think Karen will be less frustrating when it's clearer that ATK/DEF are irrelevant, how her stacking ATK works, that her "Chains" are not traditional Grabs or Stuns and cannot always be prevented as such... and a few things to make the fight easier outright (most with ero elements~!).
For the people accusing us of punishing save editors: this is untrue. We don't care at all if you save edit (with the exception of making bug reports about something you broke that's impossible in normal play). It was simply an oversight that Karen deals % damage while Potions have flat healing, which causes an increasingly insurmountable disparity the higher level/HP you have. Many honest grinders were equally affected, poor guys. Potions are being given some modest % healing to accomodate this (something I wanted to do eventually anyway to avoid having to make a bunch of different potions).
That said, % based attacks will likely return and be increasingly common, simply because they are much easier to balance, but they should still primarily be a function of "story" bosses or optional mechanics (like Yvonne's boots or Khulan's meals), so getting swole and getting rewarded for it should still apply to most cases.
As for the kink discussion: a lot of you need to broaden your horizons. Stuff like "weaponized odor" and "eldritch domination" is actually more vanilla and common-place than a lot of stuff in the game. There's a ton of lewd stuff involving mind-flayers and otherwise tentacular/psionic mind-breaks, as well as gas-masks, medical/stink bondage... even SS/Nazi stuff if you want to fetishize the idea of Karen being some sort of evil, leather-clad threat more than the stink itself. (Picking those examples because they're the most recent, not trying to call those users out.)
The same is true for the "shonen drama" some people are complaining about. For myself (and many others), the submissive options and scenarios the MC encounters are sexier if there's an actual heroic counterweight. Becoming a legitimate threat to the tower also ups the ante (psychologically, if nothing else) about what the women can/will/must do tame him. It's fine if that does nothing for you or you think it's cheesy (it absolutely is), but analyzing those events under the assumption that they're not meant to have fetish value will lead you to incomplete conclusions.
Obviously I'm not saying anyone needs to like, appreciate, or approve of any particular kink, but a lot of people seem to draw the line at what's even a "conceivable" fetish at precisely where their own tastes end, which is silly and solipsistic. It's nearly 2019: if you don't understand a fetish, look it up (this goes triple for the folks who still haven't figured out that pegging/futa/traps/mm are different things, by the way).
