Speaking of bucklers, I wonder if we are ever going to get equipment for Ethan's offhand in ToT, or headgear outside of Karen's skullcap? Those slots have been surprisingly unused for a long time now.

I'd say our chances for offhand aren't likely. Storywise, excluding specific scene content i.e. the skullcap, your equipment received no real attention. If they give some reason for adding offhand equipment now, they would need to explain how Ethan punches with a sword, or why he wears full plate armor. And gameplaywise, there is no reason I can see for adding it outside of specific interactions. second weapons can be offset by getting a better sword, a shield offset by getting better armor.
besides, Ethan's only a shield and a "Sir" away from going medieval on us.
Swords have a few big selling points going for them, though - convenience and sheer versatility. Unlike assorted long pole weapons (which all other things being equal tend to be the superior choice for most tactical scenarios) they're easy and convenient to carry around without constantly occupying a hand and getting stuck in the environment, particularly indoors, and unlike "mass" weapons like axes and maces (whose primary advantages over them are low cost and armour penetration) are nimble enough to pull double duty as a defensive tool if necessary.

Some specialised "choppy" blade designs optimised for raw cleaving and cutting power were decidedly on the unwieldy side.
And ofc as mentioned by others their expense and comparative difficulty of use meant they were something of a status symbol - longer blades in particular as the difficulty of forging and hence labour costs involved went up almost logarithmically with length. Short swords were a popular sidearm routinely carried by all but the poorest combatants and easy enough to use for effect, but long swords - and getting actual decent mileage out of them - tended to be the mark of the elite.

Anyone knows a good way to edit Switches/Variables? all the ones I try do not seem to work.I tried the edtiors on this one ,Cheat Menu, RMMV Toybox. All have issues i can`t seem to fix.

try using RPGMakerSaveEdit.
You must be registered to see the links
in the advanced menu you have the option to modify the switches & variables of the game.
This is one of those with weird bug. it wont save any modification to variable or switches.

I understand quite well your point. But apparently video gamers love swords. How am I supposed to know? Well, take the Elder Scrolls series as an example. The last time you could equip your character with a spear was in Morrowwind. Oblivion & Skyrim got rid of them.

are the the devs releasing 5 floors with no sub plot or are they doing just F7 with sub plot?

They are focusing on releasing floors without subplots for now, Since Koda is occupied with creating his own big floor (like 5f or 6f), and Bo Wei will work on releasing the floors in between sans large sub-plots. At least that was the plan a month ago, so perhaps they've adjusted their approach.
I'm not too concerned about realism... I mean, I'm punching women until they drop chunks of bronze...
Other than making Lady Cobra EX impossible to beat, I don't see any downside to cheat leveling up by
1> giving her all my stats
2> losing to Lily 7 times to get to level 5
3> beating the crap out of Scarlet and Eliza for Volcano Ash and Crystal Ice to make Lava and Frozen potions to get +5 ATK and DEF instead of +2 that I get at higher levels
4> goto 1
I wonder if future updates are going to make this a bad idea. Eliza's EX is triple digits now. Haven't seen if Ethan maxes out at 99 or not yet, but if the fights go back to straight up damage instead of the % fights like Karen had, this is not going to inspire the same sense of urgency and consequence as we got with all the villainesses so far.
