Alright, let me try to clear up any misconceptions and stigma around mental health that may exists here in F95 to the best of my limited ability while replying to Sylph. Anyone's welcome to challenge or correct anything I say.
I'm going to say this again: he's not mentally ill.
If you think you have any authority on this subject, not being a mental health professional or actually knowing Koda at all, then you're even more uninformed about the topic than I previously thought.
Some people are absolutely terrible at estimating how long things will take. My ex would always say "I'll be ready in 5 minutes" and be surprised when an hour had gone by.
These two situations are simply not comparable. If your ex's inability to make correct time estimations was having a negative impact on her professional life, only then would both situations be at the same level of gravity.
He's not in need of therapy; he's both sane and very intelligent, believe it or not
First off, there's
is a correlation between intelligence and mental health, but it's exactly the opposite of what you think it is. Intelligent people are actually more prone to mental illness than your average person, not less.
Secondly, having a mental illness doesn't necessarily make you insane. You wouldn't call someone suffering from anxiety or depression insane, would you?
And lastly, you don't have to have a serious mental health issue in order to go to therapy. Your mental health is like your physical health, just because a bunch of people can afford to not have to worry about it, doesn't mean that it's okay to disregard it. We don't tell just fat people to go to the gym, do we? Similarly, everyone should try doing therapy. Koda's case is a little more complicated because he lives in the US where there's no socialized medicine, but he can still take different steps to better his mental health if he can't afford therapy sessions, while voting for a pro-M4A candidate in the upcoming elections. Either way, the first step is always recognizing there's a problem.
I didn't say he and Bo have been working hard all this time and it's all going to be totally worth it; I don't see what the point is in just putting words in my mouth and arguing with those since I didn't and have never said that it's all going to be worth it.

Weird, you seem to think that I'm some kind of sanist (person who discriminates based on mental health), even though I've expressed in the past that I don't think Koda should be shamed in any way for showing symptoms of anxiety and episodic OCD, and I'm trying to get you to encourage him to get help so he can get better.
It's entirely possible for Koda to be a sweetie with only the best intentions at heart who is getting fucked into disappointing a bunch of people and coming off as some sort of exploitative conman because of mental health issues.

Listen, I get that having a conversation with Koda about his potential mental health issues could be a very awkward and uncomfortable experience. Maybe you think it's not your place to be telling him that sort of stuff, you just being online buddies and all. He could also end up ignoring you and cutting you off for it.
I think you have an opportunity to have a positive impact on his life and simultaneously help ToT's development in a way that you'd never be able to do with your silly 8F combat thingy that only serves to enable and normalize his obsessive and unfocused behaviour.
But hey... it's your call.
