Hey guys,
I've been working on an "MTL-Edited" translation for this game. So far I've made great progress but it's not ready yet for me to post a download link to it as it's still being tested and I also haven't edited any of the H-Scene dialogue (which is tbh not as fun as translating the rest of the game)
When I say "MTL-Edited", I've basically used a mixture of different translation engines (google, deepl, kakao, bing) with Translator++ to go through all the dialogue and menus to get an initial translation of the text, and then edited everything individually to have it make more sense to an english reader. It won't be fully accurate as I can't read Japanese and machine translation can only do so much but I believe for the most part it'll make sense and not butcher the original intentions too much.
Here are some screenshots of the WIP:
Some quirks about the game for those interested:
-The game uses a lot of plugins, a total of 69 different plugins. Thankfully, I only needed to translate the plugins.js for any text you can see as the player.
-Some tutorial tips are presented as images, which obviously can't be translated automatically.
-The game has some text which hovers over some NPCs and chests. It didn't work initially, but after some tinkering I got them to work (I had to use underscores though as spaces broke the entire thing)
-There are a lot of codes in the dialogue for specific color text. Most of it did get caught with the initial automatic translation thankfully, so I didn't have to fix too much.
-Collecting items from chests and defeating enemies in "Easy Mode" causes a pop up in the bottom left thats part of plugins and I had to do a lot of trial and error to get it to look right as it uses a lot of color codes and was confusing to read.
-Some stuff even when translated just made no sense to me so I had to take some "creative liberty" with it. For example, the shop menu mentions you can give equipment to a party member but the only party member you get never fights with you. It also never tells you the shopkeepers stock updates as you progress through the game, so I added that to his dialogue.
-I know the dlsite page uses the title "Ancient Relics and Lewd Monsters" but none of the translation engines I used gave me that result so I put the name as "Lewd Monsters of Ancient Ruins" for now. I also called the main sword "Law Sword Prestoria" despite the dlsite page saying it's Magical Sword instead. I might change this before I release it but none of the translation engines I used came close to what the dlsite page says so idk if that's just MTL at work or what.
As a final note, this is probably what I'm most proud of with this work so far:
I don't plan to do this for every image, but any tutorial images and 2 of the "pop up" ones will be translated. This took me a good chunk of my time, but I really didn't like how some of the key tips and tricks the game gives you would be missed if you played this without them translated (the game isn't that hard tbf but I had fun doing this so whatever).
When will it be released?
The current plan is hopefully before the end of the month, but I am doing this in my free time so it may take longer. Most of the remaining work is in the "CommonEvents" which handles all of the H-Scenes, which has over 600 different dialogues I need to go through and change to make more sense than just raw MTL as it is currently. I also need to test the game to make sure I didn't break anything, and obviously proofread the translations already made.
In the worst case scenario, I'll just post the WIP version if I decide to drop this project (this is unlikely though)
Is the game worth all this effort? Not really, but I noticed the other 3 games of this "series" had translations and this felt like the perfect game to figure out how to translate more than just MTL since it's fairly short and in MV which I'm more familiar with over the other engines. I'll be honest though, don't expect this game to be amazing even translated.
