1) The author, Fenoxo, already had a huge following from his previous game Corruption of Champions.
2) He and his team actually put out a lot of decent content on a regular basis while listening/appealing to their fan-base. He comments almost daily on his blog (see op).
3) His Patreon account has had time to mature.

4) It's almost impossible to not find something you like. You can lean back, put one of your hand to the schlong and use the other hand to click through the wall of text. It's so enjoyable if you like that kind of stuff. ^^'
5) Even if the game is finished chances are good the fans are allowed to add more content to it. CoC Revamp Mod is a good example.

A number of reasons.
He had a massive fanbase from Corruption of Champions and him and his team put out a lot of content. The writing is one of the best i've seen for text based games. CoC was my first and favourite but this is catching up fast.
Pretty much all fetishes are covered.
In these games you can do anything you want. You can follow the story or side quests or just fuck around, literally.
A lot of people, myself included, play these for the quality of the writing. Their ability to set a scene in such detail that pictures aren't needed is fantastic.
People also like different things. I love CoC and TiTS but can't stand Big Brother.
