I really want to try this game- it looks interesting...
Can anybody recommend a good, stand-alone Flash player- getting tired of it defaulting to IE everytime.

Under the operating system you will find the projector (just Flash Player Projector) for that. It's adobe's own player for flash. It's very bare bones though, literally just plays flash files.
As for gifs, Windows' photo viewer thing supports gifs. If for some reason you don't want to use that (understandable), there are about a billion other photo viewers that support animated gifs, like

The silly mode change some little things.
Like changing thick to THICC, can upgrade some perks and will unlock some scene.
